DIARY CLOSED.

Hey Hun Hows it's going. How do you feel with the calorie counting?? I too seem to be at a brick wall with Sw. I was supposed to have a 100% week this week as I'm off for meal and drinks next weekend but yet again j didn't manage it and will likely have a gain :/
I keep considering CC, I did do it for a day or 2 a while ago.... X

Hello lovely - things are good thanks! How about yourself and the boys? :)

I can honestly say I've never been this happy or settled diet-wise in months. I really feel like 5:2 is for me. It was only ever going to be a temporary thing, but I'm going to stick with it for the forseeable. I'm really really enjoying it, which I never thought I'd say about CC. I always thought it would be so strict, but actually there's a lot more choice / variety. Such as being able to have pizza and a few drinks on a weekend with Warren and not having to worry that I've used a million Syns! It just seems to fit in so much better with my lifestyle. Even the fast days don't seem so bad - I do them on days when I'm busy / at work, so I'm less likely to want / have time to eat, and I always plan them in advance so I can make the most out of my 500cals.

Sometimes when we've been doing one plan for so long, a change is as good as anything. I definitely found that to be the case anyway! After 3yrs on SW I had just lost all enthusiasm and motivation for it, and 5:2 gave me something new and exciting! I hope you too manage to find your mojo again soon, whether that's with SW or something new xx

Oh, and just an update on this weeks weigh in. I lost 3.5lb! Which takes me to 9.5lb lost in two weeks. Thank you 5:2!! :heartpump:

Well done that's really great :)

You've actually inspired me to do CC/5:2 and after 3 days of around 1100 cals, I've lost 4lbs!
Official weigh in on Thursday and I'm so excited!
Like you, I'd hit a bit of a brick wall with SW and plus with a young active baby, I need to be able to grab stuff on the go (like a sandwich from Tesco, which would be a massive no no on SW) so CC works better for me...
Great to see you happy again :) x

Hey, that's a fab loss!! The only thing I would say is try not to let your calories go too low, otherwise it really just becomes a very low calorie diet and not really 5:2. The aim is to have 5 "normal" days, which can be up to around 2,000cals. Mine personally is 1,970 - although I have to admit I usually eat around 1,500. I think MyFitnessPal reccommends you should eat at least 1,200cals.

Yes, eating less calories on "normal" days will make the weight come off quicker, but it will be harded to sustain. 1,100 isn't a great deal really and I'd imagine that after some time it would feel quite restrictive. I have honestly never felt hungry / deprived and have eaten more calories AND had two big losses. I know it's a journey personal to you, so it's your choice, but that's just my personal thoughts and advice. If you're using MFP you should set your goal to "maintain my weight" rather than to lose - it's the 2 "fast" / 500cal days that will give you the losses, which is why you don't need to worry so much about low calories the other 5 days.

Good luck! x

Thanks for the advice, I'll bear it all in mind.
Do you find the "fast" days restrictive?
I'm trying to work out how I'm going to fit 3 meals into 500 cals.. Any tips? X

Not particularly, I weirdly love fast days! They do need to be planned well though - I tend to plan the majority of my meals a week in advance if I can.

I usually skip breakfast or may have 1 weetabix with milk, or maybe some fruit. Usually salad or soup for lunch and then either a low calorie ready meal or stir fry, etc. for tea. The highest I've ever gone on a fast day was 498cals and that was 3 meals. Some people don't do it that way though - some prefer to fast all day and save their 500cals for a bigger meal at tea-time. It all depends on what suits you best. I guess it's trial and error really x

Well done on another great loss. I use MFP to record my intake on SW just because I'm interested in the calories behind the plans. Have found that I tend to stick to around 1200 anyway because I'm not a big eater most of the time, I just gorge on pizza every once in a while which is my downfall!

Thanks, that's given me a lot to think about....
I think I'd skip lunch as I tend to be busy during the day with my little boy... X

Hey lovely,

So good to see you feeling so settled and positive! As you know, I've been a big fan of fast days and I'm definitely getting some inspiration from your 500 cal days - you and I are quite similar that we like to spread calories throughout the day rather than wait until the evening.

Loving the calorie counting for you too - it certainly seems to be working really well. We eat out quite a lot too, so I wonder if some CC days would work for me. SW is genius on days when we cook at home...which is most of the time...but it makes things so difficult when you're out and about. I know it won't work to mix too many things together but it's definitely given me some food for thought.

Congrats on the losses honey!

xx

Thanks ladies. We do love eating out and socialising (drinks with friends, cinema trips, etc.) so the calorie counting seems to fit in much better. Yes I could still have this stuff on SW, but the majority of the time not without going over Syns. I mean, the M&S pizza is 345 calories so that would be 17.5 Syns on it's own!! Then with the 3 bottles of Bud Light I had that would take it to 29.5 Syns. And by that point I'd just feel like "well I've ruined it now anyway and had far too many Syns so may aswell not bother getting back on plan". But with this its different, it's all within calories and I've never once felt guilty about anything I've eaten / drunk. That's a big issue with me - guilt tripping myself when I've been "bad" or off plan. And it always just leads to a vicious circle of being off plan -> feeling guilty -> being more off plan -> feeling even more guilty -> etc, etc, etc.

I mean, tonight we're having McDonald's for tea as a weigh day treat. A SW weigh day treat would have been a night off plan gorging myself on anything and everything to the point of feeling / being sick. A CC weigh day treat now involves a bit of whatever I fancy, within calories and without guilt. Love it!!

PS - is it a bit weird that I'm actually looking forward to my fast day tomorrow!? xx

Been ill myself & Connor full of cold but apart from that were all good :)

Yeah it sounds good, i can so agree with the losing enthusiasm and motivation... i too have been doing SW just over 3 years now. I had Connor in June, did really well with the diet upto Sept. then lost my motivation as i wasnt losing weight. (doctors just said to keep at it!) And since then i just cannot be on plan 100%
il have some pizza, extra cheese, biscuits or something then id me way over my syns which made me feel so bad! x

Can't believe your day looks so good on a fast day!! Plenty of food there.

I have to have at least 2 meals a day. I just can't be one of these fasters who eats absolutely nothing all day until tea time lol. I used to do that on weigh day way way back when I first started SW and was scared to eat before weigh in. I don't know how I ever managed it!!
