Ex Alli now Atkins.

OMG...Just reading this post, the one thing I miss the most is pasta! I love Lasagne, Spaghetti bolognaise, anything...like that, oh and crusty bread...sorry....I have been so good I can't believe it, only the odd glass of wine, maybe one a week.

It is easier than counting calories and giving up fat though...

Well done you guys...Jx

I'm the same Jane, I love pasta and crusty bread, I do eat some occasionally but I have to watch it.

Well its true what they say I guess Jim...Everything is ok in moderation...I will have these foods occasionally when I have lost my weight, but will definitely watch my weight more in the future...I am hoping to have lost my weight by Christmas to be able to have the odd carb, like bread sauce with my turkey...I love it...

No guys I'm not a pasta fan. I'm a beef eater :D Ive lived in mexico and turkey and all I ate was alot to beef or goat or lamb. Now I'm into ostrich meat thanks to jim an claire :D
I eat pasta maybe 3 times a year. I never was keen on bread or pasta. So its' not a weakness of mines. Giving up some high carb veggies and fruits was diffcult. I love bananas and a peanut butter and banana sandwich yum yum.. also I'm not a big cake fan either..

Oh yes I forgot about Xmas and the naughty sweets and lets not talk about thanksgiving.. maybe I need to lose about 6 more pounds because around the holidays I ate like a pig LOL

Alli advice...

Hi - I see you had been taking Alli? Why did you stop? Can you still get it on the internet if you BMI is under 28? I have a friend who swears by it...

Ok went for Italian today....eek...not sure if I did well or not...

Marinated olives..yummm
then melanzane parmagiana - aubergine in a sauce of mozzerella and tomato with parmesan..Not sure if there were any thickeners in the sauce but better than a pizza or pasta isn't it???

Hi Jane,

yes it is better, but your'e right, you never know what's in the sauces

This is what is so difficult Jim, I wanted something hot, as I am fed up with choosing salads and I was freezing, so this was the best option!! Its very difficult to count your carbs if you eat out isn't it??

I was at a barbeque yesterday, at my daughters school (it was catered so nobody knew what was in the sausages etc... I chose to have a chicken kebab and a sausage with salad (no dressing) then after I had eaten it I realised that I had also taken coleslaw (not much) and hadn't even thought what was in it... So difficult when you are up and down the country so often, and trying to socialise....

I agree it's difficult Jane, when I was on induction I spent a lot of my life travelling as I was doing consultancy, I found I had to be fanatical about counting the carbs or it wouldn't have worked. I was almost OCD about it. LOL

LOL @ jim beefeater link..Minus the costume and sex I guess it could be me LOL :D

jane and laura it is hard when you are out and trying to find something suitable to eat. I agree with laura that you made the best choices with what you had avaliable. I had that problem when I went home to the states. Some restaurants are starting to have low calorie and low carb foods, that doesn't taste like cardboard, but there are far too little. Then they wonder why we are so overweight.. But I guess a tofu burger wouldnt sell as much as a burger with all the trimmings and french fries. But if they marketed it right it may work. Plus the tofu burgers taste pretty good.

I thought Atkins was still big in the states more?

A lot of people now are saying how bad atkins is so it has went down a bit. more are doing weight watchers and the zone diet, but it's still around but not as popular as it was. But still with these other diet plans and in the states there is a new day every 3 months LOL, restaurants still aren't giving a lot of healthier choices or if you want healthier choices you will pay a lot. Not too many fastfood restaurants are marketing healthier choices but now there is a nutritional data for all foods at most fastfood joints.

It's not just healthier is it More, it's all about portion sizes as well, I hear friends coming back from the US who go on about the sizes of the meals and how they are enormous love.

I do think that it would make life much easier if restaurants were to supply the nutritional details on their dishes, just as the supermarkets have to. I was able to find out the calories of my dish but not the carb count...At least then we really could chose what we know to be the best option....Jx

That's true jim the sizes are ridiculous. When I go back home I always order the small portions and still I can't eat all the small. Portions does play an important part, but they could also offer large portions of baked veggies and other healthier choices..

jane some places dont have the carb count but they do have all the fat grams, calories and etc.. that would be a great idea if they did that.

I know more,

Jane it's coming I believe, thee is talk of legislation to make eating out places publish the nutritional values on their menu's. I can't see that would work though to be honest. Proper restaurants would have real difficulties with that one as each meal is prepared slightly differently I'd have thought.
