How to cope with the carb cravings

    How do yoy cope with the really strong carb cravings - especially in the first 2- 3 weeks? Years ago my nutritionist gave me a supplement to help through it but I've forgotten what it was. Anyone know? Any tips.

    I've been doing S/World but through eating too many carbs etc my fibromyalgia is much worse so I'm dithering on the fence as to which diet to follow. Head says gi tum says gi!!

    Hi there. Lots of luck to you. Personally I love GL and regard it as a way of life and not as a diet. I have learned to love a whole host of new foods including beans, lentils loads more veg etc. I've also learned that not everything has to have loads of "White carbs" with it.
    In your first week or two you may have some withdrawal symptoms when you cut back your intake of bread, potato, pasta and rice but it will soon pass. I got a bit headachy for a few days in the first week but just upped my intake of water. This helped a lot.
    I also think that for the first three or four weeks you need to follow a strict weight-loss phase plan. This usually excludes alcohol and drastically reduces the White carbs. Doing this cuts the cravings completely. Even now, I find when I add more high GL foods to my diet the craving for all the wrong foods quickly returns. So my advice is to stick to low GL choices as much as possible and you will be fine.
