Jess's Diary - Weighed in a day early..

Many congratulations Jess, and a lovely romantic proposal!

We'll get started planning your hen night ;)

Ah poo, I wrote a long entry and the computer restarted. I really need to update my Windows 7!

Ok, so wedding talk you want eh?

I want to get married in a barn. Churches are out as we're both atheists and Adam isn't even xened. Castles are too expensive/too grand/too garishly decorated. I like rustic! The place I want at the moment (though early days, will still look around) is here:

Home | The Fleece Inn

As I said, early days, but I've looked around the net before and it's almost perfect. It's an old pub and barn owned by the national trust. In the middle(ish) between my family and here, though we'd get married anywhere in the UK for the right place as no matter what people are going to have to travel. It's pretty cheap to hire so more money for other stuff. I saw a gorgeous barn in Gloucestershire called Cripps Barn but it was £4000 to hire and £5000 minimum spend on food, drink and bits and bobs :O That's £9000 without all the other crap! This one is about £1400 for the wedding and reception hire.

Food would be the medieval banquet (I love the idea of a feast rather than 3 course sit down meal). It's a help yourself buffet sort of thing. The tables are long benches rather than round tables which I really want! I'd like no tableclothes, just bare wood with candles and shiz, but we'll see. No balloons though! Foooood.

First remove
Devilled Eggs
Stuffed Mushrooms
Pate’s, fresh bread and toasts
Salads and fruits on the table

Second remove
Side of roasted beef
Whole legs of Roasted Lamb
Joints of Roasted Pork
Roasted Chicken Drumsticks

Roast and boiled potatoes
Roast Parsnips with glazed honey mustard
Roast carrots with sesame oil
Buttered and Peppered cabbage

Various gravies

Third remove
Syllabub
Raspberry sponge pudding and cream custard
Cheese’s and Biscuits
Coffee

I love the sound of all of it except I'd try and get the sponge pudding changed to pavlova which they do with the 3 course meals. For the reception it will be either a hog roast or a BBQ.

For my dress I want a 50s style dress. Tea-length, so I'll need some nice shoes! http://lilpaisley.typepad.com/.a/6a00e008d57442883400e5527162ff8834-320pi .. that style, but not exactly like that. I want it made for me, I have found a designer who specialises in 50s wedding dresses :p My mum is buying my dress and it will be at least £1500, which is about the amount she spent on 1/2 my brother's wedding!

I want a nanny service for the ceremony for kids under a certain age as there is always one that cries. It is boring for them and I want them outta there!

I've even been thinking about things like favours and stuff. I want sweets in glass jars on arrival (an idea I totally nicked from the last wedding I went to). My wedding cake will be cheesecake from the english cheesecake company (Wedding Cheesecakes And Birthday Cakes FREE UK Delivery | The English Cheesecake Company). I don't want a wedding car, waste of money, no one sees it.. executive taxi will do, another idea I stole from the last wedding! I saw birdcage favour holders online somewhere and for the other sex I could make mini bird nests out of twigs! Oh and I don't really like champagne and we were thinking of having expensive vodkas etc for shots to toast instead, but I don't think people will really go for it and might just have to do it anyway. Reception drinks will be pimms and mead though! I think I have given this way too much thought! :p

A girl after my own heart - I'm having a 50's style tea dress too! There is a particular designer that does lovely tea dresses but I cannot think for the life of me what the name is - I think the initials are HM though. Too expensive for me though sadly! xxx

50s and 60s wedding dresses, made to measure ballgowns with petticoats, bridesmaids, prom, eveningwear, corsets by Candy Anthony London

This is the one I found! I think a regular ol' dress maker will do too though :) I think we may have very similar tastes!

:D
I was thinking of something like this for moi
Lady G

Haha, I thought that was going to link to a lady gaga outfit. Which one, are you fancying a dress or a trouser suit?

Oh, I don't think you can link to individual so tell me the image number :) Mother of the bride/groom section?

Jess I already love everything you've picked out! I adore the style of dress and you can go all out on shoes. I'm already picturing a vintage style louboutin type affair...but I'm a shoe addict. So anything shoe related gets me very excited,:D
the whole barn/medieval thing is fab too. None of that stuffy carry on with everyone at a table according to plan and a dull menu. A good big feed and lots of drinks is what you want.
No matter what you pick, I think the secret with a wedding is to go for what YOU really want. It's your day after all. Its lovely to see how excited you are already! x

Candy Anthony! That's it - I joined a wedding forum a while back when we first got engaged and there were loads of girls there that had a CA dress - sooo jealous!

If we get married over here, we're going to have polkadot bunting (I love polkadot) and cakes on cake stands! xxx

haha image 8 Jess

I like it!

Yup, food, drinks and good times! I can't have a posh wedding, my family are too common for that ;) I would be like dressing up pigs with my brothers.

So did I!! I started singing Bad Romance when I clicked the link!!

Jess, everything sounds wonderful, this is gonna be such a fantastic journey and can't wait to see more ideas.

Have a lovely day... I bet you woke up this morning and looked straight at your ring :) xxx

Raaa raaa laaaa laaa blaaah blaaaah pffft. I think the woman is a prat but her songs are annoyingly catchy!

I just had to look up what bunting was. I've a lot to learn! Cupcakes on cakestands? Is that instead of a traditional wedding cake or with? Cupcakes always look great :) Where would you get married if you went abroad?

All your ideas are stunning Jess, I loved planning my wedding...i did get quite obsessed with it!!! haha!!!..xx

Thanks M :) I'm sure the excitement will wear off soon though and I'll be like "wedding? what wedding?" :p

I am still full of cold. It's been longer than a week, I usually shake them off after a few days. It's driving me mad, I just want to go for a damn run. My ears have blocked up which has never happened before, waaah, I don't like it. I've tried popping my ears but only the unbunged up one will pop.

As of Tuesday I am definitely, definitely getting my ass into gear. I mean it this time. No, really. The other day I ate 6 rockies and thought I was going to die. I don't enjoy it, it stops NOW (well, Tuesday).

LOL. Not that you've been thinking about this much missus!

The Fleece Inn looks lovely hon and you'd be supporting the National Trust as well - bargain! Your wedding dress idea looks a lot like the dress my mum got married in - I'll have to see if I can scan you a pic; it was pale blue lace, ballerina length with a full petticoat. Strapless with a tiny little bolero jacket over the top. Gorgeous. If I hadn't have gone for my sari I'd have had something like that too.

If you want me to do your wedding invitations let me know and I'll send you some samples of the kind of thing I can do. I handmade all mine for my wedding and really enjoyed doing it. Obviously you might already have something in mind so I wouldn't be offended if you didn't want but I'd do it as a wedding pressie if you do x

Oh that is the sweetest thing ever! I will definitely keep that in mind as homemade invites are the best :) Thank you so much!

<gasp> I've only been gone for one day and you've got engaged and planned the entire wedding! My goodness! CONGRATUMILATIONS! You must be floating on cloud 9 Jess. How lovely for you and you fiance! Glad to see you've got good taste - it all looks lurrrvely already. Huge congrats (loving the ring btw!) :D

Ditto what Jane says - huge congratulations Jess ... love the ring, the 50's style dress and the enthusiasm and excitement you have right now!
