Liz's CD Diet to Goal

Thanks everyone - am right as rain now! Talking of rain, what horrible weather lately - where oh where is Summer?

Have just caught up with everyone's threads and seems a lot of people are moving away from CD and that is exactly what I am doing. Still have a few packs left and they are easy as a snack, but I've started the South Beach Diet.

It started with me looking online at low GI recipes and then doing more investigation into prediabetes and belly fat etc etc, which lead me to SBD.

Bought the book and it has some lovely recipes in it. Have asked the very lovely Mini if I can start a SBD board, so that other people who are interested can see that there are some people who have tried. I did a search and it seems a few people have asked about it, but not many people have done it.

Started Sunday night and going well so far. Made the mistake of weighing myself on the Monday morning and was 1lb down, then this morning was 1.5lb up! That made me realise that weighing really affects me too much, so I'm not going to bother.

I am going to get through the 2 week initial phase of the diet and then weigh. The recipes are lovely. I get an omelette for breakfast with a glass of veg juice (surprisingly nice). Then a snack about 2 hrs later. Then a lunch which should be a big bowl of homemade soup followed by a source of protein and salad/veg. Then an afternoon snack, then dinner, then a desert.

So far because of the carb restriction, I have no appetite, which isn't good really. Had omelette today, but couldn't finish it, then chicken caesar salad, then some ham with sprinkly of parmesan. Need to keep stoking the fire, so off to make a veggie curry with beans instead of rice, followed by chocolate ricotta desert :)

Just realised I have no ricotta, so instead I made maple almond flan (not really anything flanny about it though!).
That was much too much effort for my liking; maybe that's how people lose weight on this diet, they can't be arsed with the cooking!!!

Actually, am not that hungry. Snacked on an egg and a few prawns whilst cooking and now a) can't be bothered making curry and b) don't feel hungry.

It takes me back to Cambridge early days when your appetite goes completely. Going to have to get some more nuts to snack on so I'm having enough cals. I find it hard to stop at a small handful though.

So poor BF after a 1.5 hour journey home will have to make his own dinner. I have washed up though and he has tomorrow off work. Think I'll need to make meals at weekends and freeze, as this diet is quite recipe orientated and I can't be bothered after work!

Glad you are better Lz, the diet sounds interesting, I'll have to investigate! x

Glad you are better Liz. The diet sounds great... no appetite? Bring it on! And chocolate ricotta, too...!!! Will watch to see how it goes, but seems really interesting!

Hi Liz,

I've done SB in the past. Out of all the diets I've done (a lot) - it was the one I enjoyed the most. Be careful once you move out of the initial 2 weeks as the book makes it sound as if you can start introducing bread etc more or less straight away. The general advice by SB veterans is to start off with berries for a week, then things like sweet potatoes and gradually (over several weeks) work your way up to dark chocolate and bread.

It's good though - like a more manageable version of Atkins. I've thought about doing it myself, but am currently taking a step back from all of this as it seems the more I stress about what I eat the more I put on. Am re-reading my Geneen Roth books at the moment and will see where it takes me.

Good Luck! I loved the ricotta derssert with grated chocolate - you can do it with low fat philly if you don't have access to Ricotta - it's less grainy and I preferred it.

Ooh, curious now to investigate SB. Not that i think i want to change, but always interested to find new recipes/ meal ideas. Is it still low cal? Hope you're having a good day xx

Hi Liz, glad you are feeling better and the diet does sound interesting. Keep up updated with how you are doing xxx

Thanks for the interest everyone :)

Alli - thanks for that, always good to get tips that will help along the way and nice to hear it was a diet that you enjoyed. Especially good to hear about the low fat philly because I have loads of that in the house and most of the deserts seem to have it in them.

Butterfly - I don't think it's low cal as such, but because you are naturally eating things lower in calories and your appetite and cravings really are controlled, you end up eating a nice amount of calories. For example, I put my food into WLR last night, just out of curiosity really. It turned up at about 1250 calories and I'd eaten a fair bit that day and wasn't hungry.

What I like about the idea of it is that I don't have to count cals and fat, but it was good to know that I'm not going crazy with calories, which is what worried me about Atkins. I also didn't lose a pound on Atkins, but I was eating lots of cream and cheese. Fats like that are required to be the low fat version with this diet.

The lovely Mini has set up a South Beach Diet forum after I asked for it, so I've put a welcome post on there and a bit of info on the diet.
I'm also going to post some recipes and do a diary for what I'm eating. I really hope that it helps me stay on track.

Thanks for all your support :) xx

You're a great ambassador for it Liz, make it sound yummy!

Thanks Katy. It is so far...am waiting for one of the recipes to be a disaster, but fingers crossed they'll all be nice.

What a lovely day I've had. Not sure if it's the diet or me just attributing good things to it, but my mood feels more stable than it has in years.

Perhaps I should give it a couple of weeks before making that assumption, but I have always felt lead by my hunger. I've always, always been hungry even after eating. This has made me miserable, grumpy and constantly craving.

Now that I'm not hungry and I am genuinely feeling satisfied I feel a lot happier. Maybe I have finally found something that will change my attitude towards food and change the way I eat for life, rather than being a diet.

Aside from that I've been to the hairdresser and finally have the dark blonde goldeny looking hair that I've been after. Hopefully come the summer I'll be slim, healthy, tanned and glowing! That's the plan anyway.

About to go up to bed soon. BF is watching the footie and I have a couple of magazines. Nothing I like more than relaxing in my lovely bed and reading magazines or a good book.
Almost forgot, I also went to the gym today. Probably not a great idea on this phase of the diet, as carbs are so restricted. Did some weights, but didn't bother with usual cardio. Felt quite tired and a headache came on quickly. Still, only a week and a half until I can introduce some healthy carbs, so I can maybe do more at the gym at that point.

Hope everyone else is feeling well.

Liz, I love the sound of the goldeny looking hair....you sound so happy, it's lovely! I'm very interested in your new diet and wait with interest to see how it goes.

I've just done my hair again and it's too dark! Still, it'll fade quite quickly, (I hope!) I find that all of a sudden I'm going grey....bit scary and I don't quite know what to do about it....clearly not what I've just done though!! xx

Bess whenever I dyed my hair it always went too dark, but would lovely after a week or so!!!

I have lent my scales to my Dad for him to weight his skiing gear before travelling. So I can't weigh myself, which is good.

First time since I was about 14! So will not know how much I have lost until exactly 2 weeks on the diet...how exciting!

Ooh, I am in pain! Foot pain. Trying to find a chiropractic who will see me tomorrow, but no-one's answering their phones. so I've left several messages and they'll all probably call back at once....like buses.

Had to drive home with no shoes on :(

Still, at least I am at home and it's Friday! I went to buy some work clothes today. I have been dreading it and putting it off. All of my clothes are sizes 10-12 with the occasional 14 trousers. I am now 14 up top and 16 below and really didn't want to buy anything until I had lost weight.
However, I'm feeling crap about myself wearing horrible things to work that don't look professional so I've bitten the bullet.

I got a suit that is 14 top and 16 bottom. It was cheap anyway, but I'm sure that my Mum could take in the skirt. It will do me for a month or so I reckon anyway. Also got a dress, that fits me now and I can put a belt on as I shrink.

At least I'll feel good about myself at work, albeit in larger clothes. So frustrating having chucked a load of brand new size 16 clothes when doing CD because they weight dropped of so quickly (well not chucked, but charity shopped)

No matter Liz, we are the same size and it's not so bad! Still heading down though! Great to see you so upbeat and positive, well apart from the painful foot, poor you. Hope that's sorted soon.

Recruitment consultant? How interesting!

Hey Bess! Thanks for that :)

Managed to get an appointment for tomorrow. He sounds an odd ball, but then I suppose you have to be to work with feet all day long!!!

I don't think it's anything major and just hope it's easily remedied.

Yes, I love my job. Still love finding work for people after 10 yrs of doing it. Helped out a guy today who most would determine a lost cause. He's also with action4employment (A4e) who try to help with interview advice at the most basic level. He said they'd not been that helpful yet though and was really grateful to me :) Don't think he'll be easy to find work for as he lacks interpersonal skills, but he's such a sweet gentle guy that I really want to help him.

Anyway, enough of work - it's Friday night!

I stupidly managed to cut my thumb open this morning with, of all things, my toenail!!! Wouldn't stop bleeding this morning. Surely that has to go down as one of the most ridiculous injuries, albeit a very minor ones.

Makes you wonder about some of the stories that people in A&E must hear. BF home in half an hour, watching Supernatural on Sky + and going to have Shepherd's Pie soon :) Feeling really upbeat and happy lately - you're right Bess! xxx

Hiya Liz

Lovely to hear you sounding so well and happy and balanced. I am a little like you, currently in the larger clothes in my wardrobe. But they are a 16, and this time last year they were are 22/24. So whilst not ideal, so much better than then. The 12s & 10s will come back again. Promise...

Hope you get your feet sorted out. My auntie suffered with something like dropped arches (?) for ages but now has specific insoles for her shoes and is a million times better.

And as for cutting your thumb on your toenail - was this through some highly complicated yoga???

Hope you are having a great weekend.

Hi liz,

Oohh it's been nice catching up with your diary. :)

I've gone blonder too. I went brunette for 6 months but I hated the regrowth. So I've been adding blonde back in slowly over the last 2 months. Should be seeing my hairdresser next week for even mote blonde. Nice coming into the spring and summer.you'll have to put a pic up of your new hair Hun.

It's great that you're feeling so much better and happier in general life and work. It's also fab that the days are so much brighter now.

Sorry to hear about your foot. Take it easy. Catch up with u soon x

Hey Liz, just caught up on your new SB plan, hope its going well for you!
Have a fab week!
