Mmmmmmm that curry looks fantastic xxxxxxx Is it served with butternut squash? Have some in the freezer and am tempted to get it out.......in fact today could be a good day for a rummage in there!!

I weigh in on Tuesdays now since my jubilee fiasco - I know I'm impossible to keep up with :)

Did succumb to Bacardi and coke friday night but synned it.......so much for that promise to self.

Feeling SW good though and hoping to be in 13's by Tuesday again!!

Today I am roasting a pork joint and there will be plenty leftover for tomorrow.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend xxxxxx

Hmmm that Parp looks amazing!! I should start using more 'fun' pasta. The thing is I like to try and stick to wholemeal and there isn't much variation in wholemeal pasta.

I had noticed that wholemeal/wholeweat pasta is very basic, just your standard penne/fusilli, lasagne sheets and thats all. I do have white pasta but should maybe try to eat wm - does it taste much different? Is it ming and you have to get used to it?! But the Parp is good and the OH does request it quite a lot, although he only gets it when Philli light is on offer ;) I'm not tight..... I'm thrifty xxx

Well done on day 2 - I guess the real test will be when you go out and have a drink, thats the hardest bit.

Wholemeal Pasta is ok actually - you do get used to it, but its never quite as lovely as the white stuff - sadly I don't feel the repulsion I have heard of like when people stop taking sugar in their tea and once they get used to that, they could never go back? I have stopped putting milk in my coffee, but when I do have a white coffee its like I am on a cloud of happiness...a bit like going semi-skimmed to skimmed and then back again people say 'eurgh that stuff is too creamy now' err no, semi skimmed rocks...a fat one, skimmed does not rock anything at all! And when you go round someone's house who has a small child and they have full fat its like a carnival in my mouth!!!! I am destined to be fat forever - I like the bad stuff!

So where was I? Yes WM pasta, give it a go, its not bad - its got a harder texture to it, like its rougher or slightly grittier. I am not selling it am I? Well Mick has been converted and doesn't mind it and he is such a fussy buggar!

I like the 'I'm not tight, I'm thrifty' I am going to use that. Although I always go overboard at shopping - things are so expensive these days thought aren't they? Are there just the two of you? If so, may I ask how much you spend on shopping?

Mick and I have a separate food account, and each have a card - we both put in £150 a month, usually we go to Tesco which is always between £75 - £90, last week though I decided to be thrifty and went to Aldis and Morrisons and I spent £60. I guess it all depend on the week and what you have to get, I usually go to Sainsburys for their EL beef (always 3 for a tenner) once a month - which I freeze and this keeps us in burgers and spag bols/chillis etc.

Sorry I am waffling (ooh waffles!)

Have a good day lovey!

ps. Have you been affected by the floods? I note you are in W Sussex, I saw Bognor on the news this morning - so bad.

Ha ha your post did have me chuckling away - exactly the writing I like to read! High lighted a couple of the chucklesome moments ;)

As for shopping there is only the 2 of us. I am a super thrift (Lee isn't on the best of money and with the cost of the flat & fixing up his motorbike, money just doesn't stretch as far as I would like) It has taken some perfecting but most of the time I can do a 10 day shop for approx £35-40, some of this stuff can last for 2 weeks and will have to do a mini £5er shopping in the middle for milk/bread/bananas.
Occasionally I will do a "mega" shop which has all meats, quorn stuffs, spices, cleaning products and random "I must have that" Purchases (such as 4 packs of mikado's because they are only a squid) and that sort of shop is usually no more than £60? Always shop at Tesco, although wonder how much it would be if I done a Lidl/Asda shop? Would I have the same quality of food or be disappointed? Although I am so not a food snob, I do like my food to be of a nice quality and I do see people moan about how cr@p stuff has been.

Thankfully the floods haven't hit my town (I am in Crawley, next to Gatwick Airport) and fingers crossed they won't hit here. Amazing the distruction that rain and wind can cause in such a short amount of time.
Might be up your neck of the woods in a couple of weeks - heading to Bluewater for a bit of shopping and sushi :) xxx

Good luck for weigh in! Your 'thrifty' shopping puts my £150 a week to shame :(
Thanks Tishbash!
If I could spare the cash I could easily double the amount I spend but basically if it ain't needed, it ain't bought :D
And I'm guessing that there are more people you have to spend on? Only 2 of us! Xx

Wow, you do amazingly well with your shopping. I have recently come to realise that the deals 2 for £4 etc arent actually worth it, usually giving you only a few pence off, but Mick loves a bargain and is totally seduced by these offers, so I have to watch him! Saying that I must irritate the hell out of him buying the biggest bag of gram flour and only using 60g of it! The bhajis are nice and all that but they are not going to be a staple...for starters they are too moorish and that's dangerous, secondly they are messy and thirdly i would only think of them when making a curry, which given the fact that Mick hates Indian curries (I know, he is such a loser right?!) and only curries from the Caribbean that my need for 2 kilos of gram flour is rather pointless. I have all sorts of crap hanging round the cupboards, fridge and not to mention the masses of frozen soups I have made and not bothered to eat!

Re: Asda/Lidl/Aldi - well asda is really good quality food and good value, in fact my mum is a food snob and she would rather go to asda than tesco for their fresh fruit and veg and meat. Aldi and Lidl are good for certain things like tinned foods and hams and salmon and stuff, I don't have a Lidl near me but Aldi this thing called Super 6 or something like that where they sell 6 fruits and veggies at 49p. It could be a broccoli or a bag of apples or pack of cherry toms, they change the f&v once a month, sometimes it's really good stuff and really cheap that you can make things in bulk around what they sell, which is why i have litres of curry parsnip soup in my freezer, I made tons of it using a three bags of parsnips which came to under £1.50. The downside is that I don't feel that there veg lasts as long as bigger supermarkets. Why dont you try it one week. I spent £28 in there this week and got so much stuff for my money. Plus their wine is excellent and like £3.50 a bottle, if you go in there look for Toro Loco. Their frozen foods are good too. Give it a go.

Thanks for the heads up Charley - we don't have an Aldi near here but there is a Lidl about 5 mins away from my flat and tesco is like 10 mins from my flat too. Have been into Lidl before and come across some right bargains (chow neon noodles 49p a pack, big old packs too!) but then some things I 'expect' to be cheaper are the same like chopped tomatoes. I will keep my eye on price comparison websites though and see what they say based on my weekly shop! Xx
