MinnieMel is nolonger considers herself a CDer. One final post.

yeah mel. finally made it to the gym today. nearly killed myself in the process though. the weight gain has really taken it's toll. could hardly manage 2.5 miiles. ended up interval training the last 3/4 mile. then did 25 mins on bike whilst listening to 2 zumba dances that i'm supposed to be learning for the 5th jan.. probably 400 cals gone.

trousers still fit and bought some new tops for tuesday when i start back teaching..... leggings and oversized jumpers won't do.

off to gym early tomorrow (7am!)

such a busy day.

shopping at 7am
dog walking at 9.45 am - 11am
gym 1.30pm - 2.45pm
cleaning house 4.30pm - 5.30pm

phew!

come join us mel :)

was going to start back today. been too bad already. not like i have been though. my cdc is going to be disappointed with me as i'm disappointed with myself. i think 21lbs to goal again! mind..... i feel that if i'm good and go for it 100% within the first week i should almost loose, if not loose my xmas gain. then another 7 weeks to get the rest of and maybe a bit more. so 8 weeks in total... 2 months so by hubby's birthday in march and maybe valentines day (ha ha ha), i might be looking hot!

December 2nd (very early)

OMG -- I just realized how late it is -- I need to go bed. I probably had real coffee instead of decaf... oops.

Had surprise visitors today -- friends that had moved back to the States in August 2009. I knew they were in the UK (for two weeks) but was not sure they were going to get around for a visit. But they dropped in and stay for a few hours and we drank coffee and "caught up".

I was not at my best having had some wine and champagne last night (after not having had any in months). So, three glasses of white wine and two of Champagne and had a hangover... amature night. ;) Plus, the house was disorganised because of the piano delivery on Friday.

Anyway, I will weigh tomorrow and get back on track. I have been doing some "spring cleaning" because the piano was longer than described and we rearranged the room a few times, before figuring out to make it work. Since I shifted so much to make it easy to move in to place -- I have left things shifted in order to clean before replacing them. I meant to get it all done today... but the friends and hangover made that a no go.

So, I'll need to make a move on this tomorrow... big time.

I had a good night out at the friend's party (DH agreed to go and actually had a good time). DS went to London -- we did not spot him on the tele -- but we tried. lol DD went with us to the party and had a good time.

I hope everyone else had a good New Years' Eve and first day.

Mel

Wow Mel you are up late, thought I was the only one. I'm really suffering badly with insomnia, I'm not remotely tired :(

I'm so sorry you've missed out on the BL challenge. If i hadnt had to turn down that other lady Claire already I'd have let you sneak in. It's just that the maths becomes to much to handle with too many people and Kez and wannabe posted at exactly the same time so couldn't separate them out. Sorry :( I feel bad.

Morning. It's 2nd jan and official diet start day for half the country! :)

I am SS from today and so pleased. I think I will start by taking down Xmas decs and clearing out the kitchen

I think I'll be doing the same egbert!

Hola Mel - just checking in, how's the piano?

decs are down. hoovered up. it's almost 11am. off to our panto in 2 hours time. going to be fabby!

Happy New Year, New Start!

The sun is shining and I am feeling soooo motivated.

I thought I was doing sort of okay... but then I got on the scales this morning and weighed over 1/2 a stone more than I had on December 11th (last time I weighed). *Sigh*

I kinda missed out on the Biggest Loser Challenge (Shanny's and Sal's Brill idea) -- but then they had another birll idea to start two teams! So at last count there were still 10 places (I think).

Just when you have had a few drinks for the first time in ages and are hung over: you get surprise visitors from the U.S.! I opened the door after noon in my jammies and there they were! Plus, the female of the couple was not only my friend, but she was also my Step Aerobics instructor (and she looked amazing! The b*tch! ;)). I am at least a stone heavier than I was when we went to Paris with our girls in August 2009 -- but she kindly said that I looked the same.

It was sooo good to see them and get caught up -- but many cups of coffee later -- I was unable to sleep last night. Another New Years' Res... no caffine after 1 p.m. -- (it's okay because I have ebay watching a particular hangbag to see if I can get one at a good price).

Wow Mel you are up late, thought I was the only one. I'm really suffering badly with insomnia, I'm not remotely tired :(

PM me your snail mail and I will post a late Christmas gift bottle of melatonin to you. It does work! Ask ChelseaLou (Lorrayne).

I was okay... you snooze (or booze in my case) you lose! ;) Plus, I am always worried that I might let my side down. (How is that for using a British term: side!)

Sorry :( I feel bad.

Please don't: you were so sweet to PM me about the challenge. It made my day (erm, okay it made my middle of the night).

you can join us here! :)

Thanks Nikki -- Now (thanks to the second team being formed) I can participate in the challenge and I am going to try and get CFF (my Cheese Fiend Friend) to join and "play along at home".

CFF really needs to do something (she needs to lose about 6 stone, at least) -- no word from the docs for her over the holidays, but she is in good spirits and her daddy's visit went so well. She said that between his wife's passing last srping, and her tumour she is his only child) he has taken on a whole new personality: one of the kind and caring father, FIL, grandpa, etc.

I may invite down here to watch BL with me on Tuesday. That night be fun.

Only half? ;)

Good plan -- I am slowly sorting mine stuff (sort of on the sly as the family wants to leave it all out until the 6th and my DS wants me to leave the Christmas dishes out until the first day of Spring because he likes the holly pattern than the usual fruit ones).

I am CD810/1000 for this week and then I may step it up... I mean down. ;)

I think I'll be doing the same egbert!

Won't we all!

Hola Mel - just checking in, how's the piano?

Hola, como esta usted?

Thanks for asking about the piano. It has a lighter rosewood cabinent and that is in good shape. But it is kind of unusual looking.

Baldwin_piano_4c120c4ad176a.jpg

I did a lot of internet researching last night when I was up (from too much coffee) and discovered that it was manufactured in the U.S. (Nashville, TN most likely) in 1978. (So, very appropriate for our family. ;) ) A piano of the same make, model, year was recently sold at shop about 50 miles north of here for 725 pounds. I paid 395 plus delivery (40 pounds). So, I am feeling even better about the purchase.

I am no expert but it seems to play well and both DD and DS have played it some. I have practiced on it a couple of times already. I do feel that it makes such a difference as compared to practicing on a keyboard.

My tutor said to wait a few months and then have the tuner come out and tune it -- and I'll get his opinion at that time. Hopefully, he'll tell it was a good purchase.

New Years' Resolutions -- amongst many:

Get back into Beck... and work it properly
Do the Biggest Loser Challege
Drink my water
No caffine after 1 p.m.
Stick to my weight loss plan
Stick to a fitness plan (start those Kettle bells, use that exercise bike, wear that pedometer and take those "spontaneous fitness opportunities"), etc.
Take better care of my hair, skin, nails, teeth, etc.
Be a better FlyLady (cleaning, clutter, meal planning, etc.)
Get those projects done
Practice my piano daily
Walk the dog every morning
... I could on and on and on

I hope everyone is having a great start to their New Year!

Mel

good advice about your piano. your piano needs to become accustomed to your house and the temperatures. it will probably go out of tune but leaving it is best cause if you tune it now it will only just go out of tune again within a month. such a waste of money.

my piano has never been tuned for something crazy like 5 years. i always get it done to concert pitch. it could do with being done but i don't know a good tuner!

I don't think my piano's been tuned in over a decade. Sounds decidedly ropey at the top end. :) Still, getting back to playing it is on my list of things to do in 2012 - I recently discovered that you can get sheet music online (some of the classics must be out of copyright protection or something and are available in pdf). So I might print off some pages and tinkle the ivories again.

Mel, don't worry about the half stone on. You know very well it's most water and glycogen weight - it'll be off in no time!

Happy New Year! x

hey mel :) sry ive been AWOL for so long, ive been a bit out of it.. i think its this weather and cold.. i think im reacting like any cali girl would so im not worried too much. you sound like youve had a great time. how is the kindle? how exciting on the piano. i wish i could play. i can play the guitar a bit.. no pro but i can crank out a song or two lol.
i joined the biggest loser thread :D.. i think it already makes you feel motivated cause you dont want to 'drag' the other people down lol. so we shall see. had a nice bowl of veg and some fruit for lunch.. and maybe a cookie.. :/ but hey the veg is a start back in the right direction and im back writing in my food journal.. so back to points and keeping on track. :)

Evening Ladies,

Bummed we are on opposite teams -- Nikki. You, Shanny, Carolineg and Sal are all together. But I am with Lily and MrsPayne212... so that is good! And we got BOB!!! (I really do not like Gillian... she scares me.)

Call a local music shop and ask for a referral. They would know who was good.

Do you play often? How long have you played?

Oh do... I think playing music is so good for the psyche. You can't eat and play the piano at the same time.

I know a good tuner (well, my piano teacher does) -- he lives in the Huntingdon area.

Thanks, Lily... but it'll take time to get it off. I am a slow loser -- but I am hoping the BL challenge will encourage me to up my fitness in order to burn more.

Happy New Year! x

Thanks.

hey mel :) sry ive been AWOL for so long, ive been a bit out of it.. i think its this weather and cold.. i think im reacting like any cali girl would so im not worried too much.

It is not just the cold -- it is the lack of light. There is not one city in North America with a population of 25,000 that is as far north as you live. That tells you something, eh? No one wants to be kept in the dark. *sigh*

you sound like youve had a great time.

It was better than I expected.

how is the kindle?

Not used it much, but it is way cool.

how exciting on the piano. i wish i could play.

So do I (lol) that is why I have started taking lessons. I always wanted to learn to play the piano and told my DD's tutor that -- and she said that she could do adult lessons during the day. Since I am "self-employed" lol -- I gave it some thought and decided to give it a go. It is much harder than I expected.

i can play the guitar a bit.. no pro but i can crank out a song or two lol.

Do you have a guitar here? I have a book (somewhere) on how to teach yourself to play the guitar.

i joined the biggest loser thread :D..

Yay!

i think it already makes you feel motivated cause you dont want to 'drag' the other people down lol. so we shall see.

I'm like that -- I did LL with a friend and did not want to let her down, so I stuck with 100% (proving to myself I COULD do it) -- and lost the nearly 60 pounds I needed to lose. Now, I need to lose at least 20. *sigh*

had a nice bowl of veg and some fruit for lunch.. and maybe a cookie.. :/ but hey the veg is a start back in the right direction and im back writing in my food journal..

That it is... you go girl!

so back to points and keeping on track. :)

And back to Beck!

So far, so good. Porridge with slivered almonds, 1/4 cup peanuts for snack, water -- need more, coffee, one diet soda, a MAM, some prawns (probably too many -- and little cocktail sauce... so, carbs in that :sigh:). If I am hungry later, I'll have another MAM. I will email my CWPC and make an appointment for next week. I have enough product until then.

Tomorrow the Fitness begins...

Mel! Where are you getting your melatonin from, I didn't think you could get it in the uk!

Mel! Where are you getting your melatonin from, I didn't think you could get it in the uk!

ChelseaLou found a supply on the internet. You could PM and ask how you get it in the UK.

i've played for many many years. i think i was about 8 when i started playing. so 30 years this year. i've got grade 8 ABRSM! play violin and i've got grade 7 ABRSM, grade 5 clarinet ABRSM, grade 5 theory ABRSM. GCSE and A level music and my degree contained 1/3rd music. BA hons Education with Primary QTS and music. i think that this is 1 reason why i learn my zumba dance music very quickly. it can take me about 1 hr to learn 1 dance. this is quite quick for a non-professional dancer.

p.s i'm a music specialist which is always a massive bonus in primary school teaching. we're are a shortage subject area. the school i'm starting teaching in has had no specialist in music for so many years now! they were kind of excited about the thought of me!

Morning. Also have the Xmas half stone to lose here. Got started yesterday and that's 2 lbs gone. I do like the first few weeks of CD whe it's big impact time :)
