Spices are free. Nutmeg is one of my favourites, but I never thought of putting it in porridge. I do put some in leek and potato soup, which is really nice.
If you have been using the ready ground nutmeg, give yourself a treat and buy some whole nutmegs (you should find them in the spice section of the supermarket). You just need to rub one against a fine grater - the smell is lovely and it tastes better too. The nutmegs will keep for ever in a dry place, whereas ready ground spices lose their flavour after a while.
