Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: Brands, Feeding, Nursery, Bathing, Everything!

Mine started off as an uncomfortable feeling too. I'd say the rib thing is definitely baby. I always forget what I want to ask the midwife so have to tell Tom as well, just in case. Mind you, because I'm consultant led my midwife isn't bothered about me at all. She makes me an appointment every five weeks and I should be seeing her every 2 ish now according to my records x

How many weeks are you now hun? And did you say you were diabetic? I may have got that wrong! X

Hi ladies, Tonight I it went to a carol concert and ALL the way through I felt like a quiver in my lower abdo, it was a very strange feeling, I've only recently felt baby kick me in my side (I'm 24 weeks with anterior placenta) could the quiver have been baby, I'm still trying to decipher what's baby and what's not!

Oh and is rib pain normal at this stage, and a pain in the middle of abdo 2 cms above belly button? X

I agree with the others, very likely to
Be baby. Rib pain can be normal
As well as your rib cage changes shape to accommodate baby and all your insides which are moving! If it's really uncomfy you can take some paracetamol xx

Am well impressed with myself this morning.. Reading the Q's and I was like "I'll read through before I give my answers/opinions" and all I would have said... Our expert Susie has said :D Go me ha ha.. (May have to do with it all being fresh in my head from yesterday's AN class but still... :D

Getting lotz of AF tummy cramping today :( Which is weird as I'd be due AF this weekend...

The fact it was starting to change is a good sign, and you will probably find you go to him later and he's done a HUGE poo and it's everywhere! Is he weeing plenty? That's generally the best sign all is well.
I'm guess you meant boiled water? Not aired!! :)
Yes you can but as an extra to milk not instead of. Give him 1oz or so of cooled boiled water if you like. However, you might find he's not keen. If so, heat it up a little bit and try again but some babies hate it.
When you seeing mw next? Xx

she's coming today, yeah i meant cooled boiled water, i just wondered if it would help move things, how often should a baby poo? thanks Susie.x

Wouldn't worry too much then. Some babies poo 8 times a day, some every other day or so. Your midwife will check him over anyway and weigh him probably so she can tell you what's what where you are as it tends to differ slightly across the country! As long as he is feeding well and weeing, the poo will follow at some point! Xx

Oh how I can't wait for the black n mustard poo's... And the explosive that soon follows... LOL

I've never had an explosive one (thank god!!) although if u ask my hubby he would tell u every one he has ever changed was and explosive one!! Lol xx

Here's one for everyone's consideration.

Hubby isn't interested in more babies (I will wear him down given time) but what contraception do I go on?

My doctor said ( at my 6 week appointment) that the IUD would suit me best. I said the implant is my preferred but he mentioned my weight gain and implants can cause people to gain weight where as the IUD doesn't.

Anyway, I'm worried it will hurt going in (especially with how tender I am) and it might 'fall out'? Or hubby might be able to feel it?? Or if/ when I want it taking out it will hurt?! It looks like an anchor which can't feel good coming out surely!??

The pill doesn't suit me (I would forget to take it) and I'm not interested in condoms...I want the implant but also want to lose some considerable weight in 2014!! :-(

Suggestions? Advice?? Anyone else's plans??? X

I have had the copper coil and found that it have me horrendously heavy periods and partially rejected and tried to fall out! The implant made me fat and depressed so not a good choice either lol! Have been told that the mirena coil might be a good one for me as the hormones are more localised than the implant so less likely to cause trouble and it's better than the copper coil as it doesn't cause heavy bleeding and is less likely to reject. Dunno if that helps? xxx

My SIL had the mirena coil fitted.. It failed, and (she was told) caused her to have an ectopic pregnancy...
What about the injection?? The patch?? I was hopeless with the pill too.. Even though I had a reminder set in my phone I still managed to forget to take it

This is something I need to think about early next year. I've always been on the pill but you can't be on it whilst breastfeeding so will need to consider what else to have. I don't like the sound of the implant or coil so don't have many options really :(

Personally I'd avoid the injection. I wasn't told when I went on it but some Doctors wont touch you fertility wise for two years if you struggle to get pregnant. I'd only had three jabs and the first doc I saw just wasn't interested which is why I swapped hospitals before I had the fertility investigations. I also found out afterwards that it can weaken your bones and cause brittle bone. My sister went on the copper coil after my nephew was born and I think that's the one I'll go for. I don't want anything hormone related in me for when we try again. A friend of mine went on the implant and ended up with depression. They told her it was PND but after a year she had it taken out and it all went away. I think everyone is affected differently xx

Very interesting...
I had the injection for 3 years then had the implant twice ( total of nearly 5 years)
The pill doesn't work... I'm just scared any kinds coil is going to hurt me due to all that's happened - I've tried googling if it hurts and people say there is some discomfort... I still have discomfort when wiping after a wee so no idea how I'd manage with it being inserted.

I might go bk on the implant (after all I lost 6.5 stone when on it so it didn't effect my weight as such!
But...ahhhh still undecided!! :-/ I think I need to chose tomorrow and get myself booked in...I don't want any new year mishaps! Lol x

I've tried the pill, the implant (put on 3 stone with it) and then the copper coil. I hated all 3 for one reason or another - the implant made me gain weight, and the copper coil was horrendous. Was on a period for 2 weeks out of every month (and very heavy) and in pain for 3 weeks every month. The period type cramps weren't cramps, they were only what I can describe as contractions and pretty painful ones - probably where my womb was treating it as a foreign body and tried to get rid each month. I wasn't keen on the idea of the injection, or the coil that contains hormones as I didn't like the thought of periods stopping (to me it's not natural and I knew Id want children some day).

After trying and failing the implant/coil, I went back on the pill as I felt it was my only option. It was ok to be fair, forgot to take it a few times but came off it last September (3 months before we ttc - we used condoms in the meantime) and proper periods returned to normal straight away. Conceived 6 months after first ttc.

After this baby, id love to not have anything to be fair as I hate the thought of anything interfering with that area, but will likely go on the pill before baby no 2 and hope that periods etc go back to normal like last time when I come back off it xxx

Everyone has different experiances but so far with me the copper coil has been fine. I have had it in 8 weeks so far and my periods have only been slightly heavier and a bit more painful (my periods were becoming painful and heavy anyway before i fell pregnant with my daughter the more weigh i lost). What you went through with your labour is what i went through with my first labour and it took me a while to get better downstairs. I'm not going to lie it was really uncomfortable getting it inserted and plus my cervix is ectropian so it was even more difficult but onces its done it done. I guess i was lucky and i didnt get too much pain afterwards just a bit of cramping that day and a few swear words aimed at my hubby:D They did tell me that in small cases it can be rejected and fall out or go through in the wrong place but that doesnt happen often and once its in they want you to go back after 6 weeks to check the position to make sure its in the right place. Apparently you can feel the string (sorry tmi) if you put your finger in and if you feel it its in the right place. Also your other half wont be able to feel it x

I didnt use anything. For 5 years we used the 'pulling out' method and that worked just fine lol So we'll use that again after baby :)

I personally dont like using anything that I feel changes the way my body should be working etc...especially long term

My advice having had loads of contraceptive issues is to forget about your GP and go see your local family planning people.
I went on the pill aged 18 and took it no probs for 2 yrs then got horrible migraines with visual disturbances so now can't have it. GP at the time was crap and said can't use anything else.
Anyhow....fast forward a few yrs, new Gp said try mini pill (no oestrogen) was awful, practically non stop heavy periods, weight gain etc etc. but no headaches. Said wasn't any point in trying anything else hormonal as would be same as mini pill and can't have coil etc as not had babies. So condoms all e way! :(
Friend suggested family planning centre, they were fab. Saw a nurse and a dr, who were both specialists and tried injection (which to be fair had same effect as mini pill) but dr said she would fit the copper coil and she did! Was a bit uncomfy but no worse than having a smear and I had no problems. Had always had fairly heavy periods so they were no worse. I had it in for 5 yrs, took it out in August and conceived Sept!
I clearly don't suit hormones so will be keeping clear of stuff like that!
So family planning people will be better! In my opinion anyway!
Xxx
