primal plum

-1.1 lb this week, not a surprise as I've been fighting a bladder infection and also under a fair bit of stress this week! Anyway it won't hurt to have a little buffer zone in place for the holidays if it comes to that. :)

Thanksgiving today! For our feast we are having:

Christmas salad with goat's cheese (BBC Good Food)

Buttery cauliflower mash
Cranberry sauce (Paleo Fabulous)

And from Fast Paleo:

Spinach and roasted garlic turkey meatballs
Sweet and savoury roasted butternut squash stuffing with sausage and cranberries
Brussels sprout, walnut, cranberry and apple slaw

Paleo pumpkin pie with whipped cream

Must say I can't wait! Hope everything turns out well.

Thanksgiving was yummy (stuffing was so yummy) and had no adverse affect on my weight which I'm frankly amazed at. In fact I find that although I am on maintenance calories and eating out a bit more, my weight is still dropping a bit. If it seems to be fat that's leaving I might just let it do that for a little while!

149.4 lb this week. Interestingly my body fat looks as though it's dropped a bit but it's still too soon to tell for sure!

Body fat % is solidly in the next number down now (34.something) and my weight is tending to drop slowly still, I'm around 146 lb or so. I've not been tracking my food for a little while and it's going ok so far, altho sometimes I tend to err on the side of eating too little when in doubt.

Had an awful experience with a Christmas meal - I requested gluten-free and the restaurant said they'd done so but I was so poorly for about three days afterwards!

Experimenting with Christmas baking now which is fun. Christmas lunch is a challenge to plan as we're having friends over who are vegetarian. Should be interesting!

I am glad things are going well for u :)

I hope u complained to the restaurant!! Get them to give u a free real gluten free meal on the house for 2! Some places don't realise how just a little thing can make someone so ill!!

Have a good Xmas :)

Thanks hon, you too! (and you're right, I will complain!)

Massive paleo cookathon today:

Pumpkin pie (finally got the crust right)
Mince pies
More Christmas cake (not burnt this time)
Chocolate/coconut fudge

Red cabbage in pomegranate juice
Mashed root veg casserole with fried onion topping
Wild mushroom stuffing (will fill little squash halves with this tomorrow)
Spiced ham
Citrussy carrots

Tomorrow we'll roast a duck and make stir-fried sugar snap peas, cauliflower cheese (primal cheese sauce) and also Brussels sprouts with cream/chestnuts plus the obligatory (gluten-free) bacon wrapped sausages. There's also breadcrumb stuffing and Christmas pud for the non-paleos and our veggie friends are bringing a savoury pie.

I think paleo/vegetarian Christmas is going to be just fine! :D

Food was amazing over what I think of as the three days of Christmas feasting, and all paleo/primal. I ate too much of it though - and a bit more primal dairy and paleo treats than normal (the mornay sauce from the new primal sauces book makes amazing cauliflower cheese) - so it's not surprising that the scales are up a few pounds. Still under my official target weight though so not too much harm done.

I think that since it was all paleo/primal it hasn't triggered cravings though and I'm feeling pretty perky and keen to get back to normal today! :D I'm also finally on the tail end of being ill and so hoping for a nice walk today and maybe gentle kettlebells tomorrow. :)

'Walking' turned into going to Bristol and trailing around Costco. I'm now very distressed as they didn't have one of my staple foods which is a huge can of macadamia nuts - they were so much cheaper than in the supermarket. :(

Oh no.:(

Is costco worth the membership fee?I live near Bristol and would love to go and have a look.

Gah, not sure how I missed this. I think they'll let you pay a visit to see if you like it before signing up. Good idea to know how much things cost normally though as not everything is cheaper! It doesn't suit everyone but it works for us. :)

I've realised how less frequently I hit up Minimins since going primal, I pretty much just get on with things! Which I think is a good way to be going forward really. :) I seem to have lost my Christmas weight now and have been working on getting back into an exercise routine (although I need to start wearing my fitbit again, I slacked over the break). I have had a few bodyfat readings in the 33% range (instead of 34) but not quite enough to call myself in the 33 bracket yet - but it's an encouraging sign that they're appearing every so often now!

Sometimes it seems like primal/paleo is too good to be true; I have kicked the Christmas cravings and am more than happy with all the yummy paleo things I eat. I've stopped tracking food on MFP and so far it seems to be working OK for me. If my weight goes up for no reason, though, I'll probably track some days just to see where I am. I feel a lot more free in cooking and not sticking precisely to recipes as before I was obsessed with knowing the calorie count of my meals as closely as possible and thus never really improvised much.

Had a bit of a naughty treat today; tapioca pudding made with coconut milk. Tapioca pearls are made out of cassava starch, cassava is a root. So it's not grain-based and thus I don't feel TOO guilty. :D This was after a really lovely moist slow cooker chicken roast (then grilled it on all sides to crisp up the skin) from nomnompaleo, a proper Sunday dinner really. That's what I mean about it seeming too good to be true!

One thing that has made a big difference to what I'm eating at the moment... Mr plum and I had been saving up for a Vitamix for awhile, I like green smoothies and a normal blender never seemed to get past the 'little bits of leaf suspended in water' stage. I always find that my health seems a bit better if I have a small green smoothie most mornings before breakfast. Anyway, we hadn't reached our savings target when my lovely mother gave us some gift vouchers that brought us up to the final total! So we whizzed off and bought one. And I'm truly amazed by it. There is no getting around the fact that they are seriously expensive but now that we have it we are using it once or even twice most days. I've read online that many people have 35 year old Vitamix blenders that are still going strong so I am looking at it as an investment.

I've been making green smoothies galore, and they are actually smoothies in texture! We've made a lot of veggie soups, paleo mayo (which I know you can do with a normal blender but I am usually impatient and put the oil in too quickly) and flavoured mayo, and tonight we made really creamy homemade almond butter that was so good I'm not sure I can go back to the stuff from the shop (we got a big bag of almonds from Costco). Previously I was afraid to make almond butter as our food processor is an attachment to a kitchen mixer and I was worried about burning the motor out by processing the almonds for 12-15 minutes. It was done in about a minute and a half in the Vitamix! So although it cost a very lot of money I am really glad we were able to buy it.
