I just quit smoking in January of this year, so I know how difficult it can be sometimes. I actually read the book by Allen Carr - I think it's called 'Easy way to stop smoking' or something similar lol. I found that a great help and if I ever felt like I was gonna cave in, I'd just refer to it again.
I've honestly never felt better and I smoked for 18 years (40 a day in the last few years!)

Good for you, and good luck I quit smoking in January 2007, and like Dawna I know how hard it can be to stop. I have a wee programme on the computer that keeps stats from when I stopped. It tells me how much money I have saved ( yeah right, I've got 2 kids that took care of that lol )

I thought that was going to be the hardest situation for me to face as well, but it's a bit easier with the smoking ban in public places. It's not easy but definitely do-able!

Hi! I recently received a 'smokeless ahstray 'as a birthday present.I found that this seemed to cut the usual cravings 20 minutes or so after smoking a cigi(to a longer time period).Most of the harmfull toxins that are inhaled are in the smoke that we exhaled previously; and more toxic is the smoke that floats or burns of the tip when we don't have the cigi to our mouths(passive smoke).The smokeless ashtray vacumes this smoke into its chamber,provided you have your cigi nearby.I've cut down since using it,and I feel better in my breathing,by a mile.You can buy these from E-Bay, there around 15 pounds and non-smokers will thank you for your consideration,also,your clothes and house will smell fresher.My only regret is,I did't know about these yars ago.

i quit 4 days ago, the first 2 days were horrible, i was very edgy and angry all the time, basically everything annoyed me now i don't have any actual cravings, i just miss the motions of smoking, for example, i am waiting for the bus and have nothing to do- i feel like having a smoke to occupy myself. i am after a nice meal, and want to smoke after it, just because i'm used to doing so, and i then remember i don't smoke anymore. it's really annoying, because it shows how addictive forces of habit are

I quit on the 1st February, I missed the 'motion of smoking' too - so the only help I had was the occasional puff on the 'Inhalator' sort of once every 4-5 days in the first month. It did help a bit, but I never relied on any of the nicotine products. I just wanted the chemical out so that I wouldn't crave it anywhere near as much.
It really does have to be psychological. Concentrate on the positives of NOT smoking. Health, you don't stink, you can actually BREATHE, you don't obsess over when you next can smoke (esp. when you become stressed), you are saving money! ... and actively start to make yourself hate the negatives. People who smoke on the street, they SMELL. Lol. They look awful. Etc etc. Just little things.
It's so worth giving it all up. I don't regret it or want to go back at all.
I mean... after a month of giving up, I went to a party in March. Had a few 'first' smokes when I was drunk. For the next two weeks I was wheezing, I couldn't breathe. Laughing and talking was actually difficult. Lol. Never again.

I quit 15weeks ago i was doing a smoking sensation class in Alliance Pharmacy! I think the fact that someone was watching my smoking if i had a smoke while on the Patches he would know then I would feel terrible that i had let him down!
Now I'm patch free i feel fine without one but always keep one in my bag just incase i feel the urge but i still love the smell of smoke!

well, i am still going strong, not a single puff i don't use any patches or inhalators, decided to do it completely cold turkey, yesterday i went to a pub after hours (i know the management), and everybody was smoking around me, i actually couldn't stand the smell, but still wanted to have a smoke weird, isn't it??...:|

well, i have "only" been smoking for 6 years, so it might be a bit easier for me to quit (although i did smoke a pack a day or more), i also have a specific motivation to quit:] and yes, it does save up a lot of money, which at the moment i do not have
the first time i really tried to quit was 1,5yrs ago, i quit for 10 days i think and then i just gave up and started smoking again. but i think the main issue was that i didn't really want to quit and i felt like i am giving up smth very important

btw, the only thing that worries me is the weight gain. i do find that i am increasingly hungry, i don't eat any takeaways etc, so shouldn't gain too much, but about a week ago, before stopping smoking i lost 4lbs and in 6 days i gained 2lbs. i am hoping it's just the fact that the 4lbs lost were water and i am just gaining it back, but it still worries me:|

When I quit, I did start finding I'm more hungry... Then I started Lighter Life again, and my hunger didn't go away... It was emotional, I think the 'hunger' you feel is you not being able to cope with your stress/emotion in the usual way (of having a smoke), so your body is going for the next best thing; food. ... Every time you get this hunger, actually ask yourself whether you have a good reason to be hungry (haven't eaten in the last 3 hours, or drank anything recently?). Then go from there. Address the issues you are faced with head on, try to recognise them for what they are.

good luck to everyone on giving up smoking,, i quit 2 1/2 years ago but i found it hard at times what to do with my hands so i bought a colouring book so if i was at home bored and fancied a smoke i coloured a picture instead also i brushed my teeth if i had a craving aswell, kept me occupied the first few days anyway lol

i'm trying to drink lots of fluids when i feel hungry, because i think that i'm not actually hungry, just miss doing stuff with my hands so when i feel like eating something, i have coke zero or water or tea or coffee, basically anything i can put in my mouth instead of food/cig

i actually gained weight when i started smoking
That got me thinking there,, i was 14 when i started smoking and a nice slim size 10 and after that the weight slowly crept on i wonder if theres a connection hmmmm
