Syn free muffins

Thanks for lettting us know, I have just forwarded this info to my SW consultant as the class was given the recipe a couple of weeks ago so she will need to tell them this info before everyone eats loads of them thinnking they are free.

Thanks for doing that, Lynne - our consultant is away for 3 weeks at present, and it doesn't seem fair to burden her temporary replacement with a question she may not be able to answer. If only we could ask SW for a definitive answer...

I'd love to find we are wrong, but really don't think that they CAN be syn free. The other thing that makes me suspicious is that BritMumInCanada, who used 'coarse whole grain polenta' thought they were "disgusting and bitty", NOT a charge we could attach to ours at all! Maybe she DID use the 'free' product?

I know that very many of us will await the reply with great interest! So, we're going to stick to Scan Bran cakes for the time being!!!

I've just made cherry & almond muffins, they taste ok but have 2 layers - i think i shouldn't have used my magimix!

thanks for this I cant wait to try them out!!

Hi Ladies, I have emailed enco products (dunns river is packed for them in the uk) and basically asked them if the coarse polenta is the same product as wholegrain polenta. I will let you know if I get a reply.

I'm in the process of baking these now - banana flavour! Fingers crossed they turn out ok, I had a little dinner so I would have room for them :)

Well I have to say, I'm very impressed, even if they aren't syn free! The banana flavour didn't really come through despite using banana&custard mullerlights, which is a bit of a shame, but they're delicious nonetheless, and they rose plenty :D

Only problem is, I did mine in bun cases, and because there's no fat they've completely stuck to them! Does everyone else do them straight in the tin? If you do, how do you get them out??

x

Hi Everyone.

I have passed all the relevant details onto my consultant from the pack of East End cornmeal (polenta) and she is going to try and get the SW answer as to if it is syn free or has a syn value so as soon as I know anything will let you know.

I have also emailed East End Foods to ask them about the product with regards the post that someone put on here about the storage of wholegrain polenta etc. I am still waiting to see if I get a reply from the.

Fingers crossed someone on here will get the answer that we are all looking for.
:fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:

I've been spraying the tin with a couple of squirts of fry light first and they come out easily x

If you use those rubbery type baking trays, you do not need any fry light!

Hurrah!

hey the stuff I used was stone ground I think, but I am quite sure it didnt say to store it in the fridge or freezer. It was bought from the shelf with all the organic/health range stuff. It is called cornmeal here, not polenta.

But like I said, the muffins turned out horrible, it was like eating a cake with bird seed in it. Not that I have eaten bird seed before lol.

I will take a picture of the packet and post it for you all to see. It is still in the cupboard from when I made the muffins, not been touched since. lol

I bought Polenta from my local health food shop but was unsure whether it was whole grain or ground as it didn't indicate on the packet. I entered the nutritional information into the Syns calculator on the SW website and it was FREE on green and extra easy. Here come the muffins!!

the trouble is though, is that all polenta is theoretically free in syns on slimming world, except when used as flour. So this is where the query comes in as to which ground polenta you can use in the muffin recipe.

Hiya, I have just put in the nutritional vales for East End Cornmeal, Coarse (polenta ) and put in that it has a Green Free Food allownace (polenta, dried). Then inserted all of the other information form the packet per 100g and it came out as being FREE on GREEN and EXTRA EASY and 16 syns on RED !.

so I presume that I have worked it out correctly because there is also a choice of cooked polenta, but when making the muffins to start with you use raw.

If anyone wants the nutritional info so they can work it out just send a message if u can as I'm not sure if I put it on here that it won't be deleted.

so to me this means it would make the muffins syn free. :)

The trouble is though is that all polenta is free in syns, except when used as flour and for the muffins it is being used as a flour. So it still wouldnt clear up the confusion.

Hopefully Slimming World confirm soon.
