T_T's (hopefully!) dimishing returns!

I've attached a pic of the giant peach! It looks less giant next to a huge coffee though.... And the risotto from last night. Portion was massive- I think I'd make less and syn it next time- of use part of a HEXA

So glad I have the SW app on my phone. Popped to Sainsbury's to grab lunch. There was a smoked salmon salad, which I thought looked great. Checked the app, only 1.5 syns! Also got some hard boiled eggs from the salad bar

Hello! Thought I'd pop over here to subscribe and try not to hijack Ruth's thread ;-)
Baking sounds good! I had a chocolate and beetroot cake a few months ago, it was brownie-like and really tasty! Hope it turns out well for you.
How far along are you with your MSc now? Guessing you've not got long left to go if you are trying to unscramble trains of thought lol. I can totally relate to that!
Hope you have a good day :)

Hey Rosie - chocolate and beetroot cake is the Pinch of Nom recipe, which I've made a couple of times. It's amazing and only 1.5 syns per slice! Banana bread is in the oven smelling amazing. Must try not to eat them before taster tomorrow evening...

The hand-in for our dissertation is September 21st, although I have extenuating circumstances, because of being in hospital. We graduate next July (because of weird exam board times). I must have about 20 working documents on the go for my dissertation at the moment! But I am not at the hating it stage just yet

Ah lovely I'll go and find it- I can handle 1.5 per slice and have heard great things about the Pinch of Nom! Love banana bread too- I know I cannot stop at one slice of that though haha.
Hopefully you'll find it all comes together at the end- I know when I did my MSc it felt really 'bits and bats' as I had each chapter in a different word file, but when I got it all together and worked on the entire document I could see it coming together properly!
Good that you have been granted EC- I know some Universities have started to be v strict about it- but not good that you have been in hospital! Hope you have recovered now.

It's good to hear that someone has worked in a similar way to be and come out the other side! Thanks, Rosie! Feeling a lot better now, I had to have my right kidney removed, because it wasn't working, and my specialist was quite right when he said I would struggle to concentrate properly for a while afterwards.

Well, the bus I wanted to get either didn't arrive, or went past my stop early. But at least I got to sit in the sun waiting for the next one... traffic was then awful, so I am just now settling down at uni. I have fruit and a bag of Pop Chips (4.5) to keep me going. Aim is to try and get my lit review second draft finished this afternoon, although I'm not too worried if it pushes into tomorrow.

http://pinchofnom.com/recipes/1-5-syn-a-slice-choc-beetroot-cake/ This is the recipe I used. It's lovely! And apparently their banana bread recipe is great as well: I just followed one I found on Facebook.

That's fab, thank you! I have everything except beetroot though I'm sure I've seen it in the vac packed bags in lidl- I'll pick some up with my next shop.
Think I'll have a little look round that site as I'm struggling a bit for inspiration lately.
Crikey I think you're allowed a bit of time out after such a big op! Sounds scary, glad you're feeling much better but take your time with the work, I'm sure with EC you'll have plenty of it before you need to panic.
Yes I do find that working in bits is helpful to a degree; it means you can focus on the task at hand and not get distracted reading your work through and finding other bits to work on. It's also mega satisfying when you finally put all your chapters together :D
I'm working on my lit review today too! It must be the day for it! Hope you get lots done and enjoy your snacks, I'm about to raid the fruit bowl as I can feel afternoon peckishness about to strike..

I'm eating my way though a pack of flat peaches! Overwhelming urge to raid the vending machine, but I shall resist: I know that I don't need chocolate....

Not rushing anything, but don't want to fall out of good study habits! I had a long break between my undergrad and postgrad and I really struggled to get back into an academic frame of mind at first. Good luck with yours too

You're doing well- I hate vending machine temptation after I managed to kick a nasty Minstrels habit! Fortunately there isn't one anywhere near my office!
I know what you mean- it can be a tough balance between taking a break and getting out of the game. I find the more I read the better I can write, the words must filter in somehow and improve it. I had a break between A-Levels and Uni, but have been at Uni for.. nearly 7 years now without a gap
Thank you, I had a reasonably productive afternoon after a terrible start to the day (laying on the sofa with a blanket on my head wishing it all to go away!)

Vending machine situation is worse out of term time, because the SU shop (not that it really has much healthy, but there are choices) and all of the onsite catering close early. So unless you've remembered to stock up, it's vending machines or nothing.

You're braver than me.... My year back at uni has been enough for now!

I called it quits before I got to the blanket on head stage. I didn't really write very much.... lots of notes, a few more articles. Then I left, because I was annoyed with people talking, and tired. I'm glad I did, because they then got pizza delivered.

I had a couple of cake 'bites' - one of each, just to make sure I can actually serve them to other people! Annoyed, because the banana bread is nowhere near as good as last time. (1 syn)

Had my HEXB of ryvita with cottage cheese, sweetcorn and spring onions.

D - roasted veg with bulgar wheat. (1 syn for olive oil)

Then the last of the ice cream for pudding (I don't think a tub has EVER lasted this long near me!) (6.5)

Total syns for the day: 13

I like how you seem to get a decent amount of ice cream for the syns, though I can't really trust myself with a tub either! I was buying the mini magnums from lidl as they are pretty low syn at around 5 if I remember..
The canteens shutting earlier is really annoying- on my campus they have closed a lot of the little cafes down and it catches me out still.
Ah the talking. I used to hate it. Made up nicknames for people I used to share an office with to help me get through  but I requested a move and got into a smaller one with only one other person that I hardly see! Surprised at the pizza ordering- that's taking it a bit far!
As long as you did a bit :) blanket on head stage was BAD. I then had to do the timer trick (set for 20 minutes write solidly then have a break, repeat) and it seemed to work for the afternoon...
It seems a lot as an MSc is a lot to fit into a year so it is intense! But I am through with studying after this PhD.
Sounds like you've had a good day with plan & work! Nice job :D

This ice-cream is so rich, that I don't mind only having a relatively small amount. It's also REALLY expensive, so eking it out to 5 servings is the only way I can justify it.

To be honest, I was just in one of the 24 hour IT labs. I could have gone up to the post-grad room, but it's like a fish bowl and on the fourth floor! It was mostly me being lazy.

They may not have been taking the pizza back to the room - I just saw them outside getting it from the delivery man - but I feel it was reasonable justification!

Hi hun! Just had a quick catch up with your diary, and you sound like you are getting right back on it! Both with Uni and SW :) Good luck with weigh in tonight!

Yea, I'll be honest, I do look away! I have notoriously bad veins, so the fact that she was able to find one at all was a miracle.

I have bloods taken all the time at the hospital now, so have to get used to anyone and everyone doing them! And it's over in a matter of minutes: unlike stupid 24 hour urine collections! What a pain, it means an entire day is written off.
