The FlabFighters! - January Challenge - New Year, New You!

Have lost my first 2.5lbs for January challenge:D. Started 1st January but will weigh every Wednesday as usual. Hope everyone is having a good week.X

I did RFL a couple of years ago, was going to walk it with my mum and sis but decided at the last minute to try my hand at jogging it! Thought I did quite well until I was about 500m from the finish line and my sister rang me asking if I was done yet cause they were done and waiting for me :( Admittedly I didn't jog all the way, and I started 5mins before them, but I did have to stop for the loo and was atleast 10mins in the queue... :(

Cancer Research is such a worthy cause - I can't think of another charity that touches so many people so deeply. Does all money raised in RFL goes to CR? It's not that I don't want to donate any sponsorships to them, it's just that the idea of giving to St Ann's Hospice on behalf of my dad was what made me want to do a run. He died from cancer too, it'll be two months on the 8th. He was due to be moved to the hospice that day, but passed away in the hospital at 2:15am. Two days before, he'd asked me if that was where he was going, and to donate 10% of any company earnings to them if he was. Though he never made it there, I asked my brother-in-law if I should still go ahead and donate to them or if I should pass it on to The Christie Hospital instead, as that's where he had his chemotherapy. Sis and BIL had been to see the hospice a few days earlier, and though he went there with a closed mind, not understanding why there was a set place someone should go to die, he walked out feeling overwhelmed by the help they provided for people who couldn't be helped in any other way. So regular donations are going out to them, but I just wanted to do something from me, off my own back... RFL it is :)

I feel happy that I provided you with the push! Will you be doing any training, even if you just walk it? xxx[/QUOTE]

My dad died of cancer in March 2009 so know what you're going, through my dad was in hospital and was due to be moved to St Christophers Hospice but passed away before he could be moved.

It's such a worthwhile cause to run for. I'm so unfit but maybe hoping that one day i'll be able to help raise funds for cancer research. Good luck with your training and of course the run.

1.5lb off this week. Hoping for 2 next week to get rid of Xmas gain xx

I think the adrenalin really helps when you're running it...I did very little training for RFL last year and did it in 38 mins which I was really proud of. Am going to do a half marathon at some point, just need to find one near me!

And Ali, those shoes will be MINE when I hit target, fear not! xxx

I don't think I've ever met adrenalin, lol! I don't really get pumped up about stuff very easily, which is a shame... Enthusiasm is something I lack unfortunately! :( WOW 38 mins?! That's definitely something to be proud of! Best of luck for when you do find that half marathon near you, that's something I could only wish to aim for...

Maybe you could do walking in those heels? ;) :p xxx

Have lost my first 2.5lbs for January challenge:D. Started 1st January but will weigh every Wednesday as usual. Hope everyone is having a good week.X

Yay! That's a lovely first loss, well done! Best of luck for tomorrow :) xxx

:( Sorry to hear about your dad hun, big hugs to you. Something I caught on TV accidentally this morning, I was meant to be getting ready for uni but decided to watch a few minutes of Everwood on E4 and it just seemed like my laziness = my fate. A girl's mum had just died and a boy told her that basically, people tell you it gets easier, and though you don't want to believe it, you eventually do, begrudgingly. But it doesn't get easier, it just becomes something you live with. You don't turn back into the person you were before they died, because their passing changes you. You just learn to live with it, like (this is his example, which I thought was so true) if your right hand gets busted, you don't just stop doing things. You learn how to use your left one. It doesn't change you, it just becomes a part of you and you learn something new. Would you randomly start writing left-handed if nothing had happened to your right? No, but when the need arises, you can.

Similarly, caught the last few minutes of a really old episode of One Tree Hill where Peyton finds her birth mother who is suffering from cancer. Mum thinks Peyton has come to see her because she feels guilty, or out of sympathy. They fight, and Peyton tells her she came over because she was going to sell a CD to raise money for cancer research. I was never able to say the C word out loud, I still flinch when I say it but I don't know why. I can't tell my dad I'll be running for CR but I hope he knows.

xxx

Thanks for sharing Ali. I think all money raised during RFL goes directly to CR but why not split your sponsorship as such. Maybe set up on online page for RFL and make your own sheet for immediate family and friends who were aware of your dad's final wishes and donate that money to the hospice.

Husband bought me Sports Active for the PS3 today. I'm going to do that along with my weekly aerobics class. Hoping this will improve my overall fitness levels and gives me a good cardio workout at the same time. I've not checked the game out fully but I believe there are running/jogging programmes. I think I'll start running indoors and hopefully have the confidence to run outside in a few weeks!

That's a good idea, thank you :) I might just do that.

Sounds like an interesting buy! I'm hoping to get to Zumba tomorrow, let's see how my day pans out... I can't do games console workouts anymore, in our house it's either the Wii or the PS3 (they stay plugged in to the same TV) and it's usually the PS3, which I don't get along with! xxx
