Hi all

I'm a kinda newbie - I've been on and off diets for years (haven't we all!) and used to post on here a while back but fell off the wagon ... and well that was that!

Anyway I'm finally starting to count my points again and hopefully this time it'll make a difference!

I have just realised that I'm addicted to food!!! I don't know how I didn't know this before, but I always thought I was in control!

This afternoon my hubby and I watched "When A Man Loves a Woman" has anyone seen it, it's where Meg Ryan is an alcoholic. In one scene Meg has decided to quit drinking, and she's lying awake in bed when suddenly she jumps up and goes to the cupboard where she's hidden a bottle of Vodka. She takes the bottle runs outside into the street and puts it in the bin. My hubby said .. "what is she doing?!!" And I said, as if it was the most normal thing in the world, "oh she's getting rid of the drink because she can't stop thinking about it - she can hear it calling to her and she either has to drink it or get rid of it" he said "really?" and I said "yeah it's like that chocolate bar I just ate, I was full and felt a bit sick from the chocolate I ate a while ago, but I had to eat that bar because I couldn't stop thinking about it" :(

Sorry this is turning into an epic but I think for the first time I've realised I need help and I'm hoping to God this will be the hurdle I need to get over to finally sort my weight out! But what help is there out there really? I've never had much luck with places like this, everyone seems to be in a clique apart from me ... I know really that's not true, but my low self esteem makes me think that!

God what a whinger I've turned out to be - great first impression! lol

Tomorrow I will start again ... but already I know it's going to be hard as one of my team is bringing in cakes for her birthday which I don't know if I'll be able to resist.

For info, I'm a size 24 and weigh 19 stone (give or take) so I know i've got a long battle in front of me!

I could go on for hours but I better send this in the hope that someone makes it at least this far :)

I think we're all addicted to food, that's why we're here! Well at least I am...

I know the feeling you described really really well...feeling sick but squeezing something in just because you want to. I know it sounds daft but I think I've come to terms with the fact that I'm always going to be tempted to do that but that every time I don't i'm achieving something. Maybe it's a bit defeatest to say that I'll always be like it but I'm being realistic here.

Just take each day as it comes and you'll do it! xxx

Your post rang home with me big time!
I feel as though I am totally addicted to food too.
It is the first thing I think about in the morning and the last thing at night.
If I'm not religiously counting points then I'm bingeing, there is no inbtween with me at all.
Stick around here cos there are loads of great people, you are definitely not alone on this one!!

Thanks for your posts, I do intend to stick around.

I found my old diary on here yesterday and had a read, I was so positive and even lost 2.5lbs 2 weeks in a row which I couldn't remember at all. May seem a small thing so some people but I usually have problems losing - well sticking to the diet for 2 weeks ... once I'm over that hurdle I get really on track.

So here's to the next two weeks!

Hi Twiggy! Lovely to meet you :) I think youve certainly rung a few bells in alot of our minds! Mine for one! .. Im the same with choccy and coke! :(.. Im sorta getting better as far as the choccy is concerned now but diet coke! If im down to the last half a bottle i get panicky! .."need to buy more" "what if we run out" Its lawful! .. My heart pounds and i have to go get some! ... nightmare! .... i think we all have a problem with food and half the battle if finding a solution or a compromise! ..

I'm a Diet Coke addict too ... at least it's the diet kind. I always though I'll tackle the weight first and then try to cut back on the DC ... too much in one go isn't good for me I'll start to panic lol

I wonder if now that you have had a 'light bulb' moment - which is a wonderful thing - whether you will find the whole dieting thing a lot easier? I say this because I've had one or two this last year or so and it does make a difference. I've been busy thinking for years that 'slim' people have some kind of luck/magic recipe/superhuman strength of will and that is why they are slim. Then I realised, they just make better choices than me. Thats it. Nothing special, where I will reach for a bar of chocolate 10 times out of ten, they will just once or twice and have an apple or even nothing on the other occasions.
It's my choice if I stay fat - if I choose to stay fat then I had better stop bitching about it. If I choose slim then I'd better quit whinging and get on a plan I can stick with.

I'm not saying that has automatically mad elife easy, it hasn;t but with a clearer mind about weight, things do seem to sort of drop into place. I am now on a plan I can live with, losing weight. I can't bear to stay as I am so I have made my choice. Feels good too!

I really wish you well on your new start and look forward to reading how you get on.

Thanks for the reply :)

I think the light bulb moment will help me a lot! Straight after I wrote it my DH had a Burrito, and I was just getting mine ready to cook when I realised I wasn't even hungry! So put it back in the freezer :)

I so know what you mean about the state of mind. for a while I was happy being big ... well perhaps not that exactly, I was just happy with how I was. Now I'm not! So I'm not going to ***** or blame anything I'm going to do something about it! :)

Thanks for the good wishes. I hope you have a successful journey too - and looking at your first week loss I'd say you're well on your way :)

You sound very motivated and I'm sure you will do brilliantly well.

We're still in the shattering planning stages lol. Who'd have known that planning a wedding would involve so much work and cost so much money lol

I really want to lose the weight a few months before the wedding so it's one less thing for me to worry about.

Hi all

Decided to turn this post into my diary so I can look back incase I forget my light bulb moment :)

I get weighed on a Wednesday Night so my official first day will be Thursday, but I'm trying to be good up to then. I went to Tescos last night and stocked up on food ... mostly their desserts as I have a wicked sweet tooth.

I LOVED the rice with caramel thingy zapped in the microwave - very yummy!!

Going downstairs to lunch any minute and will probably have a jacket pot with tuna Mayo (i point it at 9.5 ala the Brewers Fare one on the WW list) unless they have Lasagne as their special :D Annoyed with myself that after buying Tesco out of their WW Yogs, mousses and desserts I forgot to bring one for after my lunch DOH

Tonight I will be having Chicken Caesar salad with low cal dressing and melba toast and bacon (got the recipie off the sticky at the top).

Hope everyone's having a good day. Sorry this mail is a bit random, am really busy at work and my brains thinking of 20 things at once :D
