Hi there, I noticed on here that there are a few 'vampire books' fans :D
I love vampire movies (blade, underworld and twilight etc) I could watch them over and over.
I had never read a vampire book as I thought they would not be as good as the movies but I ve just read 'vampire federation the uprising' (it was only £3 from tesco so thought I'd give it a go) it was fantastic and I loved, there is going to be a follow up book but I dont think its out yet.
I was hoping anyone could recomend the next vamp book I should read, I dont like anything too deep and complicated, just a good, fun and exciting read.
I am 36 so also didnt want the teenage stuff although is the twilight saga's worth a read (I ve seen all the movies so not sure if it would be worth reading now)
any advice would be greatfully taken!!!xxx

Have you read the True Blood series? I'm getting the set for my birthday and I watch the show so I deduce it must be good. If the show is anything to go by, it's definitely for adults. :)

Have a snoop around Amazon, there's usually loads of reviews and rec lists by genre.

Both the Twilight and True Blood series are good. Nice light fun reading.............and totally better than the films/tv shows.

They're not great literature by any means but if you want good, trashy escapism they're perfect (I'm 30 btw).

well another one you may like is kelly armstrongs series its starts with bitten (women of the underworld) and has vampires, werewolves and witches in i love them

I think Dracula by Bram Stoker is a good place to start :D

If you're interested in folklore and how the idea of vampires has changed throughout history, I recommend Vampires, Burial and Death by Paul Barber. I read it for a module I did on vampire films at uni. It was really interesting and I keep meaning to buy my own copy.

The Anita Blake series is pretty awesome. There's about 20 books in the series, but they go downhill a bit after the 12th one, but the characters are so fab I just keep on reading.
Well worth a go, and you can probably get them for like a penny on amazon.

I loved the twilight series and re-read them every so often. I have asked for the true blood/sookie stackhouse books for my birthday in a few months and until them I have started the vampire diaries. They are nothing like the tv show and having only just finished the 1st book don't know if that is a good or bad thing!

Another great mini book/novella that was fab was the short and second life of bree tanner, a side book to the twilight series and nice to get inside the head of another vampire!

will have to have a search for the Anita Blake and kelly armstrong series see what they are like!

I have been reading the Morganville books by Rachel Caine. There are 8 of them at the mo.

They aren't high brow in the slightest and are incredibly easy to read (teenage books apparently) I read a review that said they were better than Twilight, though I don't agree, they are very good.

The main character is a mix of buffy/willow without the vampire slayer bit, hope that makes sense :D

ive read the twilight series, its not heavy to read..but they are addictive, i read them all in a week :D i love edward in the books and carlisle :)

ive read all the true blood books and the books that accompany the series, great books.

ive also read the vampires diaries books, which are quite similar in parts to twilight.there are other light vampire reads out there, house of night it think its called.

if you want heavier read then your cant beat dracula :)

I love vampire books. Have read the Twilight series, Morganville Series, House of Night series, Vampire Academy series. I have the Anita Blake's to read next :)

....Pretty much all of the Anne Rice vamp books are awesome.

As are her 'Mayfair Witches' lot...especially when the books cross over....

At the moment i'm re reading the ann rice books, just on interview with a vamp at the moment but i have to say ANITA BLAKE lol absolutely love those books... have to agree that they do go downhill - into a sort of weird cross species orgy and i havent finished reading them (i was reading two a week at one point because theyre so good and i ran out of funds and now they've changed the covers so i dont want to get the new covers and put them beside my nice old ones!)

hmm to start with Anita Blake has nothing to do with sex at all - i dont think she actually has sex untill a few books in.. but then theres a few twists (not ruining it!) which means sex starts being involved in the books... then for a couple it gets a bit much lol but apparently the more recent ones get better again.. i LOVE Anita though so I def recommend!

I might try asking waterstones to order in the books :) at the moment i'm just trailing second hand book shops lol!

i did a bit if googling and it people say it like porn in parts.

do the books continue on from the previous?

have you looked on ebay? ive looked on there today and some people are selling the whole set.

i might get the first one then and give it a go :)

good idea :) it does get sorta porn-like but there is a reason lol its not just all of a sudden lets all have sex first few books arent like that at all :) let me know how you like it if you do read it? also the other books by laurel k hamilton are good (although not really vampiry) - theres a series about merry the fairy princess - i've only read one or two of them but my friend (who introduced me to anita) loves them too
