I am a big fan of vampire novels, I like seeing the different ways they are written about and what their weaknesses are etc etc

I've read everything from Anne Rice to Tom Holland and would be keen to chinwag with anyone into them too :) x

Ya know, the only real vampire novel I've read is Dracula. I've never finished my Anne Rice ones despite having all the lestat collection and a coupla others. I love vampires -have done from a little girl -ever read Angela Somer-bodenburg's 'Little Vampire' books -I LOVED THEM!!! LMAO - but i recently picked up a Brian Lumley 'Necroscope' and couldn't wade through it! The plot seemed interesting enough but it was his actual writing put me off -it just seemed so contrived and non fluent. I couldn't get into it. So I've been paddling through my old 'Vampir diaries' and my sons Darren Shan books -lol -I know they're kids -and I've just finished a lit degree but they pass an hour ya know lol

This rather long winded post was basically to say, if you've any suggestions I'd really appreciate it. :D

I'm a big fan of the Necroscope novels, very gory stuff and takes vampirism to a whole new level. There's been about 11 altogether by Brian Lumley, the style is influenced by HP Lovecraft so very dark and horrific. Highly recommended but you should read them in order.

Yeah, although not limited to Vampirism. Have you read any of the Kelley Armstrong books - Women of the Otherworld series?? Excellent books

Not seen those but have read a couple of the Anita Blake novels. Thought they were OK but I only got as far as the third one. To be honest I tend to read more crime and thrillers these days but I'll always find time for a good horror story.

    kelley Armstrong's are great :)

i have just reread up to number 6 of the anita blake books. i think after that they get a tad porntastic :)

the tanya huff ones are ok if a little cheesy too :) and tend to involve sex as well. vampires and sex. who'd have thunk it, ha.

I wrote my Honours dissertation on Dracula! A bit of a random choice on my part, as it was a Fine Art degree:confused:

My argument was that Dracula was no longer confined by the original story, he was an independent and in some ways autonomous character, and had therefore passed into what could be considered to be actual existence....in my strange strange mind at least.....he gets everywhere these days!

I just recently re read Dracula - ok I was in Whitby for the Goth weekend and I do drink in the same pub while I am there as a certain Mr Stoker did!

I tend to find Anne Rice a bit heavy going sometimes, saying that I have read all of her books

My favourite Vamp books are by Charlene Harris featuring the lovely named Sookie Stackhouse, off the top of my head she has wrote 9 books and I am sure the first one is called Dead until Dark. I think that they might be quite hard to get hold of as I have not seen them at work - I work for W H Smiths! so it might be worth looking on line for them

i used to live in, and went to school and college in whitby. the best thing about goth weekend is that all the charity shops put the decent stuff in the windows that they seem to stock up for the rest of the year :D ha.

Whitby is absolutely my favourite place!!! I'm from York originally and love Whitby :) Went up there a couple of weeks ago, just before the Goth weekend. Only been to the Goth events once, good fun :)

Love the original Dracula, the Anne Rice stuff is ok, recently read the Twilight saga (S Meyer which is aimed at teenagers really).
To be honest it is a bit of a fantasy for me...but'nuff said!!!!

Dracula is the original and best....at no other time could such a book have been written..it needed that repressed and twisted victorian atmosphere to create Count Dracula....not something you can totally fake after the moment has passed......love it :)

My best mate is getting married in York next summer too, and I'm a bridesmaid for the first time ever!

Things have probably changed a bit since I knew York really well, but Oscars was always nice and I believe still is....just off Stonegate. Twinkly fairy lights and candles, heated outdoor area etc, I used to go when I was at sixthform....(10 years ago!!! eek!)
