BrightAngel's Daily Diary

Yes it is so upsetting when you cannot see any logical reason and for you monitoring calories so tightly it is is even more strange. No doubt one of the downsides of my weighing in so frequently but I would hate to be off wildy at the end of a week. Keep it up and hope you do enjoy your TG celebration today.

Yesterday's UP day was Thanksgiving Dinner

Yesterday I had my family Thanksgiving dinner.
My day's total came in at 1113,
which was very close to my Guideline amount. :)

This morning I had another Up-Bounce to 120.4 lbs.
Although I am certain this is all a salt/water/waste gain,
and it has happened to me many times before,
it still sucks.

But it was thanksgiving and tomorrow is another day. Hope you're having a good DD if that's what it is. Keep the faith!

Yesterday's Down Day

My Yesterday's Down Day calorie total was 298.
Today is an UP day.

Despite my consistent Alternate Day eating
...and the fact that for the past 30 days I've had an 800 calorie average....
my (salt/water/waste) Up-Bounce has not yet receded.
Weigh-ins for the past 3 mornings:
Friday: 120.0
Saturday: 120.4
Sunday: 120.8
I know that my stabilized weight is in the 118 lb range,
and so my weight will drop back there soon.
Getting below that number to stabilize back in the 115 range (and below) is my goal.

Yesterday's UP day Results

Yesterday's UP day calories totaled 1398,
which was almost 400 over my Guideline Budget,
but still wasn't high enough to be totally Unacceptable.
(Remember my Total daily calorie burn is only about 1100.)

My Up-Bounce is still holding on.
This morning's weight 120.4.
I'm hoping I'll have a Down-Bounce after today's DownDay,
However, that is unpredictable due to yesterday's higher calorie total
because of the salt/water/waste issues.

Yes I reassessd calories last night again. As you know very well you lose weight and the requirement goes down. Have you thought about exercise - I know you have said before you are limited as to what you can do but what about low impact stuff like walking and weights? Weights with high weight for muscle building or high reps for weight loss... isn't that how it goes? Just wondered if that would help get those last few pounds shifted?

I don't do high-impact exercise or heavy lifting.
However, the calorie burn I've stated includes daily low-impact exercise.

For quite some time my current exercise has been:
As average 1 hr of low-impact exercise per day 7 days a week.
This is primarily walking on the Treadmill,
free-style Gazelle, Stationary Bicycle,
and WalkAwaythePounds DVD,
Plus a bit of Strength Training 3 times a week,
using my own body weight, 5 lb dumbbells,
and a 6 lb long-handled Sledgehammer.

I've learned that exercise does almost nothing to help me lose weight.
I do it because it makes me feel better.

I agree with those who say:
"Exercise is for Fitness;
Nutrition is for Health;
Calorie Restriction is for Weight-Loss."

Just thinking about the fact that increased muscle 'should' increase your burn rate. Hmmmm sledgehammer sounds good!

Edit: Would you consider emailing the Johnson website for advice? I know others have received support and repsonses.

Thanks, Hoe, for your kind suggestion,
but I believe that my calorie burn problem is not within their expertise.
I am a very small, older "reduced obese" female with a very low metabolism, which happens more often than Experts care to admit. This is a fact I am learning to Accept and live with.

Yes I always felt that exercise did nothing for me in helping me either lose weight or change shape except minimally and just was not worth all the effort (apart from health benefits no doubt). I don't enjoy it at all unless it's a game of badminston or something.

This lack of effect on weight loss always seemed illogical to me and whilst it is no comfort to hear you say the same it does, in fact, give me confidence in my own assertions and instincts.

I totally agree, I don't think exercise has an effect on weight loss either.

I do like to exercise though as I know it's good for me, good for my heart and lungs and I'm hoping it'll help tone up my flabby belly!!! I can hope anyway lol!

Results of Yesterday'S DD

Yesterday's Down Day turned into a Medium Day.
My calorie total was 776,
which is about halfway between my DD guideline of 500, and my UD guideline of 1000.
This morning my weight was 119, so it appears to be dropping back down to my stabilized 118 lb area.
Right now, I'm having trouble with DDs, and
I think I'm going to have a few medium days,
and then reassess my plan.

Yesterday's Up Day Results

Yesterday's Up day calorie total was 1139.
Today I'm planning to work toward a Medium day...
which is somewhere midway
between my Guidelines of DD=500 and UD=1000.

This morning I had a weight-drop back to my 118 lb stabilized weight. :)

Yesterday's Medium Day Results

Yesterday's Medium day calorie total was 904.
Today is an Up Day.
I'm planning to work toward staying near my Guideline of 1000 calories.

Yeah!!!!! That is great finally at the long awaited 118 - well done!

Yesterday's Up day results

Yesterday's UP day calorie total was 1066.
Although today is a scheduled Down day,
I'm going to go for another low Up day.

The scale is still holding my lower stabilized weight.
I've eaten very low calorie for a long time without weight-loss results.
Right now I'm working to give my body a "jolt" to get it to drop my stabilized weight,
and am focused on spending a lot of time doing low-impact exercise--
--2 to 4 hrs every day on the Treadmill and Gazelle.
I find that I just don't have enough energy to do this on a Down day.
This might be partly because I am in Maintenance,
and my body doesn't have a great deal of extra fat,
and partly because I'm in my mid-60s.

Wow 2-4 hours doing exercise? RESPECT lady! Hope the JUDDD helps you jolt the maintenance weight to your lower desired level.

Yesterday's Efforts

Yesterday I ate a 1499 calorie total,
which would be great...except for the fact
that the total calories I burn each entire day is a bit under 1100.
Also, it was a struggle not to eat a lot more. :sigh:
Low-impact exercise 2 hrs...
(which, DietPower tells me: for my body, is about a 182 calorie burn)
Today I just don't feel it is possible for me to succeed with a total Down day.
I plan to work to stay in the 700-900 calorie range this weekend.

Great going x
