Started this year with a smile because I thought 2010 was going to be the making of us! My partner and I have struggled over the years and he hasn't found it easy to find work but a few weeks before christmas he got an old job back! Great we thought and we started to focus of getting our flat sorted etc.... that was until he went in yesterday and they laid him off again GRRRRRRRRR!

What makes it worse, is the fact that they have re advertised his job in the job centre with different hours and a different job title. I am so angry and fed up that we are in this situation again. All we want to do is get on our feet but some how we aways end up getting knocked back down. Anybody have any idea when this (4 year long) blip is going to end???

hey there..sorry to nosey in on your thread out of the blue as it were lol...
I feel for you and your oh hun x

I dont think theres an easy answer ....just keep going as im sure theres something much better waiting round the corner for him...

maybe hed consider part time or voluntary work til he found full time work- hed be gaining more experience (might lead to full time?)and would look good on his cv...and give him a confidance boost...just an idea...

hes deffo not the only one who will be struggling to find something..its just how it is right now - its not him hun its this country lol....

Dont want to go into details but ive had it very hard for quite a few yrs now - ups and car-crash-downs lol...all you can do it pick yourself up and carry on...and you have each other so its not all bad :).

someone once told me - and i sooo wanted to slap them for saying it- what doesnt kill you makes stronger cos life only throws at you what it thinks you can handle....at the time i thought what a load c**p....but as times gone on i can see its true...what you and others have/are going through - well its all part of life and your not alone.

Anyhoo....hope your having good week so far and loving the snow? (not lol)

tc and try to smile at least once a day...could be worse..like me...on a diet but fridge empty and little ones off school and tv broke!! :) x

    Hi there, thanks for replying!

I know what your saying but sometimes letting it out and having a vent feels so good! I have heard that saying before and some days i am fine ut then days like today, i just want to scream. I just feel really bad for him because he is originally from Milton Keynes and moved here to Wales to be with me and all we have done is struggle.

I'm not asking for easy living to be handed to me on a plate, just a normal life will do. Even a small part time job and a little car on the drive would be perfect for me. In fact, I think i use dieting as a crutch to make me feel better about things. as if being thinner would be the solution to all my problems lol.

I hate being on benefits and although working part time doesn't make us loads better off, I just feel better for it. He will find another job and keep saying to him that this is meant to be but he really enjoyed it where he was. Just seemed unfair laying him off and then re adverising his position the day he leaves.

    Rant rant rant LOL

    Thanks for that :)

Please feel free to rant as much as you want - you do need to let off steam sometimes and the best place is among friends.

I won't go in to loads of details but since 6 Jan 1997 I've been widowed, divorced twice (once after having lived in a women's refuge for 7 months), made redundant, had post natal depression (undiagnosed) and a few other bits chucked in the melting pot BUT, like you're doing and doing well, we have to keep going.

Things WILL brighten up and one day you will look back and give yourself a pat on the back for getting through it all but until then hang on there and know we are all supporting you xxxxxxxxx

You from South Wales. Him from across the border. He leaves everything to be with you.......! ;)

Which of your friends will be 'Nessa? and which of his friends are Smithy??!??! You decide!!!

P.S. Sorry if everyone says that to you...I couldn't resist....

P.P.S. I really hope you've seen the show, otherwise that just sounds like the post of a raving lunatic!!!!

Is that legal? It might be worth contacting your local Citizens Advice Bureau for some free advice.

I agree, it may be worth seeking advice as to whether their actions are legal or not. Good luck with it.

He wasn't given a contract and neither was the other guy who was let go. Neither of them had been there over 12months either. the only person in their department they kept on was the only one who had a contract and they did so because they didn't want to pay him a redundancy package.

Looked at the job advertised and the job title has changed, the hours have changed to 16 and the duties are "slightly" different but it is basically what he did. He told them the day he found out that he was willing to drop his hours. This is the second time they have done this to him and I feel they used both of them to get over the christmas period.

    - it sounds like that is exactly what they did. Some companys are just like that, they dont give two shits, and in a reccesion.. everyones out for themselves..

as much as his job would have helped financially and emotionally.. he's better off without a company that is unstable, and doesnt treat thier enmployees well.
Somthing will come up, iv been there.. training so hard and trying to get a job, it can be so difficult.. in the end i jumped ships and managed to find somthing i love, but am very fortunate to have a job at all in this climate.

maybe its a matter of taking a new perspective on things, and a bit of positive thinking and looking a bit futher a field or for different jobs..

it will happen, everything can change in a matter of secounds.. xxx

Definitely illegal if that is precisely what happened.

If you are laid off (rather than sacked, for example) they are imo legally obliged to offer you the job back before advertising it.

If he is in a trade union then they will have their own specialist solicitors who you can use for nothing, failing that and if you get no help from CAB try ACAS or maybe even just pop into the library or check online?

Even if as employers they are no good, don't let them get one over.

    Makes my blood boil Grrrrr

To be honest, I think he is better off out of there. They have done this to him twice now so they could do it again anytime. At least he will get a recent reference and a good one because he worked hard there. Thanks for all your replies :) xx

Hi hun i know exactly what you and your OH are going through.

Me and my OH had an amazing first few months and it was hard as he lived 200 miles away.

We decided we would move in together but down in devon where i live.

we found a perfect little flat and the day we were supposed to move in the landlord backed out.

tim was already on his way down with all of his stuff so me and him crammed in my bed room 3 days later my day had a heart attack 2 days after that i lost my job. My other half grabbed any job he could and he ended up picking up litter.

i found another job but it was a zero hours contract. some days id work 12 hours other days id work 1 hour.

then we moved out oct 2008 then 2 weeks later i lost my job, my company shut down. we had nothing. barely any furniture and £10 a week for food.

then in march last year i found my perfect job! temp to perm safe and secure. We changed flats and had no bed or a sofa for weeks. 1 month later my mum had to retire due to ill health, but my OH got a new job working for the DWP, my mum she has emphysema and fyboryal miolgia. 2 months later a bomb shell my dad had a stroke and then in november i found out they werent gonna make me permanant. but gave me a finish date of the 31st March. boom another bomb shell i was diagnosed with clinical depression and my OH with bipolar type 2.

then 4th of january my nan was found to have a blood clot in her heart and my dog was diagnosed with alzheimers nad has been given 8 months to live.

The only advice i can give you is to keep strong! things will get better for you i promise!

Oh lovely, it's never ending isn't it? We all have our problems and it's easy to forget that isn't just us and there are others out there who are struggling too. So easy to lose the bigger picture.

Really hope things look up for you and your family soon. I lost my mum 10 months ago and things just seem much worse than they ever did before. Like a previous poster said, life only throws what it thinks we can deal with. We'll get there :)

Sorry, I babble a bit lol xx
