Joes sausages

i am trying to get an order together with some friends cos i dont have a huge freezer!!!

In the meantime my local butcher makes syn free sausages....hehe! so i will have to try to cope until then! xxx

I can understand that and I don't question your point of view. I have never tried them personally due to the cost, but I thought that good quality, SW friendly products would be a good thing...

Hi guys.. just an update to answer some of your Questions..

yes, They are very easy to split even when completly frozen.. i assume when thier fresh they'r just a string of sausages.. but i haven't taken them all out of the packaging to test this theory! lol.. no faffing with scissors and trying to cut up.. i just stuck and knife in and chopped.. came apart very easily, no breakages.

They'r easy to seperate also in the sence that once you cut the original packageing, youv got the coloured polysterine type tray, which i just wrapped a few layers of cling film round to re used.

the sausages are of a very good quality.

The pork and apple ones are nice, but will warn theres no visable apple as such.. mainly because if it had nice big chunks of apple they wouldnt be syn free.. but i would HIGHLY recommend the lincolnshire ones are fantastic. We'v just had them and they are the BEST sausages iv ever had, even the full fat ones pre- slimmingworld!

The meat is of a very high quality, and so it should be for the price. (trust me, i would be mortified if i'd spent that money and they werent amazing)

I think the reason they easily seperate is because of the way they are packages also, by not being layed on top of each other they'r only frozen to one side if you get me?

the skin of the sausages doesnt come off either like the low fat, diet ones you usually buy from supermarkets (i found it came off when i did things like sausage casserole)

and do you know whats more.. for tea we had a 'cooked breakfast' - i'd been craving one all day' and decided to crack open the lincolnshire to give a go before i decide which ones are best for BBQ'ing.. i only got out 2, and because of the ease of seperating.. de-frosting in the micro for one minute and oven cooking for 20-25mins.. it wasnt any hassle, not like when you decide last minute on having them and you know youv gotta spend 15minutes just prying them apart.. i would happily get one out just for myself.. theres no faff!

I honestly couldnt rant and rave about these anymore.. and im so eager to hear from my SIL to find out what her sausages are like
(she ordered well over 30 sausages- shes a sausage-maniac lol)

Its not somthing youd do everyweek, for price wise obviously.. but i will happily be ordering atleast once every 2 months, especially during summer.

p.s each sausage pack has 8 sausages, burgers come in packs of 3, and iv just checked my steaks.. and theres 6 steaks in each pack. xxxx

Have to say I wont be ordering again. A friend and I split the order between us a few weeks ago and both of us later said we (and families) didnt enjoy them, they are very dry. obviously due to the high meat content with less than 4% fat but only to be ordered and eaten in desperation. We tried lincolnshire sausages and the pork and apple ones, old english sausages, beefburgers and pork sausage meat. The beefburgers didnt arrive. Ive not tried the sausage meat yet but it was a thumbs down for everything else, sorry,

^ Gosh im sorry to hear they werent very good.. i have to say i am so far really impressed.. i suppose thats the risk you take though, clearly its a marmite situation! i have only every heard good things myself though.

I am so pleased with everything, from ease of ordering, the communication via email confirming it all, to the actual delivery, how it was packaged and kept fresh and the meat itself.. i have emailed them to say so!

I found they dry out if you overcook them so you need to get out of the mindset of this thing needs to be cooked till it is nearly black!

We usually dry fry them for a second to brown then pop in the oven wrapped in foil so they almost steam themselves. Gorgeous each time .. the Cumberland are our favourites.

The sausage meat is excellent, at Christmas we made some sausage rolls with some packet pastry and there was not a bit of oil in the pastry from the sausage meat, they were crispy all the way around which shows how little oil/fat is there.

Yes they are really expensive and yes that is probably down to them being syn free and 'pointed' but isn't every other specialist food, I'm sure people who follow a special diet can tell you how much extra their food items are compared to the 'normal' versions :) Ultimately I would rather have a big meaty sausage then a little low syn diet one ;)

Thanks for the review Fern! I am not a big meat eater but I do miss a good sausage with a cooked breakfast lol! And as much as I love many quorn products the sausages just aren't very nice.

Yes they are quite pricey but I find any low fat sausages are pricey such as Bowers I think they are over 2quid a packet.

Thanks for the info and maybe one day I will get round to ordering some. Definately a great thing to do in group (sadly I don't go to group) as you could do it say once a month everyone puts in their order and you get free delivery and probably qualify for the discounts too!

X

i agree the packaging was great, although I think for smaller orders they should scale the boxes down slightly, i dont mind the prices as I think its worth it for good food. I always buy the highest meat content sausages anyway so always pay more. I just found personally that they were too dry, although Ive now defrosted the sausage meat to try that. I make my own burgers anyway and have been making the sausages from the recipe in the magazine a couple of months ago which basically is meat blitzed and shaped like sausages. the only thing missing is the skin, so no fat anyway at less price than Joes.
its a personal thing and everybody needs to try them as its definately a marmite situation. (which I love by the way)

Can i just share..

Burgers.. are flippin lush, and really beefy, i ate two and think im going to explode im so full.. i thought i'd be eating atleast 4!

Thanks for the review, I've never heard of it before but think I might go into group this week armed with an order form and see if there's any interest. Would be great to get the free delivery. :D

Fern,

I agree, Joe's sausages are gorgeous!

Have you tried the chilli grill sticks yet? These were by far my favourite. I am going to order a load more of them tomorrow, ready for the bbQ

I liked the sausages but thought the burgers were to dense and too 'meaty' (show's what we're used to eating though!)

I also found the polystyrene box really useful with the ice packs when I defrosted my freezer ha ha - I've kept it for extra storage for chilled stuff for days out in the summer - I like to get my money's worth lol!

WOW... Is all I can say.... it came just in time for my breakfast, so decided to have a sausage sandwich. O.M.G they are FAB!!:D I think I actually like them BETTER than normal sausages!

Today I had the pork sausages, but I also ordered the chilli and garlic, cumberland and lincolnshire ones, plus bacon and marinaded meats.... I am in heaven! It felt so naughty, but...well NOT.:D
