Minime's pregnancy diary: infection after birth

Saw my new wee nephew on Friday night, he was 3 wks and 2 days early and weighed a teensy 5lb 9oz. Sister called and asked me to stop off and buy micro nappies as the newborn ones were too big for him:D. He is so cute with loads of hair. Had a hold and can't wait till my little man is here.

Also booked my 4d scan, its on 1 April at 19.30, so looking forward to it. Can't wait to get the sex confirmed once and for all, although I do still think boy.

Going to be keeping head down and getting on with my studying this week as exam is next Wednesday, be so glad when its done.

Aw, how cute! My boy was 7lb 8 at 5 weeks early but in my mum's family full-term babies are usually 11-12 lbs so it's not surprisingly he was big for being prem. My dad and my hubby are both twins and were over 6lb each! My gran's first child was 13lb 5 - OUCH!

I'm studying hard just now for exam on Wednesday morning, looking forward to it being over so I can relax a wee bit before starting next part of the course. I can't wait till I can have a nap through the day, can't just now because of the studying, but with not sleeping much at night time I'm pretty tired.

Meeting couple of friends for coffee on Thursday lunchtime before school finishes for easter holidays. OH off next week so hoping to get some stuff done in the house, why does OH think its more important to paint outside of house rather than inside grrr. He says room I want him to pain doesn't need done just now, so I'm praying for rain so he can't paint outside then he is stuck inside lol.

Got my 4d scan on Thursday, OH has said he isn't overly bothered by it, but I'm so excited, as are kids. OH will come I'm sure, but he thinks I should just wait the extra 10 weeks to see baby - No chance lol. I'm desperate for them to confirm the sex so I can buy some things as I've been cautious about it, apart from a few items.

Do any of you wake up with numb fingers? I'm finding my fingers numb/sore through night, I'm awake most of night due to SPD and use my iron bed rails to help me turn, but with numb fingers and it being sore to bend them its more difficult. Someone has suggested carpal tunnel but I don't have any pain in my hands/forearms, just my fingers.

Don't know anything about numb fingers, that's something I don't get. I'd raise it with your midwife, they might be able to shed some light.

The 4D scan must be amazing, best of luck with it. Good luck for Wednesday's exam too.
x

Good luck for your exam.
Carpal tunnel can just cause numbness, it's common in pregnancy coz of the extra fluid and should ease off after the baby is here (you sick of people saying that to you yet? ;))
Looking forward to hearing ow your scan goes :)

3d scan last night was fab. Kids were so grumpy though, OH ended up stressed out with them. DD2 has throat infection, DD1 had her arches for her braces fitted in afternoon and mouth was sore and DS was being a pain as wasn't getting his own way.

I just tried to concentrate on the actual scan. CD thingy wasn't working so they will post that out to me, so no images to upload just yet.

Confirmed its definitely a boy, OH said he'll need to take my debit card off me now as I've been very restrained in buying things. Going to pop into ikea today to see if I can get a petite cot, no way normal cot will fit in either my room or DS room where baby will eventually end up going.

Was at the midwife yesterday afternoon, she said I'm measuring 10 weeks ahead from my fundal height. No signs of gest diabetes in urine, although do have trace of protein in it and swollen fingers and feet. She has referred me back to hospital for consultant review to query me as large for dates. Thankfully, the scan last night gave me an estimated fetal weight currently of 3lb and said baby is measuring between 27+6 and 28+6 and I don't seem to be carrying excessive fluid.

Midwife did say it could be large baby, excess fluid, mix up with dates or alteratively, could just be because I was larger when falling pregnant. Was seriously hoping there was a mix up with my dates and I was much further on lol, but obviously not to be, I'll be having my June baby after all.

Glad you enjoyed it, and they confirmed he's a boy :)
Hope the kids have been OK today!
I've measured 3 weeks ahead all the way through but scan measurements have been bang on so I've just put it down to being a heffalump lol. God could you imagine them telling you baby was 10 weeks further on, the debit card would be smoking from last minute panic buying lol x

Hey girls, thanks for popping by.

Not having the best time of it just now, trying not to post as I feel its just totally depressing.

SPD had been fairly manageable until last few days, now it feels like someone is trying to rip my pelvis apart at the pubic triangle and that there is a red hot poker sitting between the bone. I'm getting so frustrated and irritated and am very aware of it, so trying to nip it in the bud but its so hard when I just want to cry.

Like yesterday, I asked DD2 to get me a drink and to get me some ice cubes, she was playing about with her sister and 10 minutes later I was still waiting. I told her to forget it I'd get it myself even though I was sore and I'd have to go downstairs. Seriously, I had to apologise to her, its not her fault, she was only playing.

Also got carpal tunnel now, fingers swollen, sore to bend them and now have a pain shooting from wedding band finger to wrist. This is making it difficult to use my crutches so now I'm stuck in too.

Seeing physio tomorrow about carpal tunnel and need new support belt as mine is now too small and digging in. Also gonna make an appointment to go back to discuss birthing positions with SPD.

Got consultant next wednesday, to query if I'm large for dates. I know I was bigger to start with but if I'm still measuring 10 weeks ahead and the scan shows I'm between 1-2 weeks ahead (which the 3d one did), maybe they will change my due date. Here's hoping:D.

Kids off school, OH off work and it has been the worst rain in ages, woke up this morning to sunshine, so will get OH to hang out washing and we may go out for a coffee with the kids.

Sorry for my depressing post, hopefully in 10 weeks I'll be high as a kite on adrenaline, with my baby watching from the moses basket:D giving a happier update.

Oh, I'm so sorry you're having such an awful time. Don't feel you can't post about it, if it helps you to post, then post, we're all here for you. I know I post if it helps me and people are sympathetic and supportive as we all know it's horrible.

It would be great if they changed your due date and surely with the SPD so bad they have to agree to delivery at 38 weeks?

Is the carpal tunnel pregnancy-related too?

Keep counting the weeks hon, it's getting closer.

Hugs.
x

Yeah carpal tunnel is pregnancy related. I was induced at 38 weeks with DS due to SPD, but am under a different consultant this time, but hopefully will still get induced early. They won't confirm that until I'm 37 weeks though.

Sending you some (((hugs))) I know you've written in my diary so you know I'm feeling the same way just now. 10 weeks seems like forever at the moment, hope it speeds by for us x

Midwife appointment 2 weeks ago, mw thought I was measuring 10 weeks ahead when she felt my tummy, referred me to hospital for checking. Was there yesterday, everything okay, I can expect a baby somewhere around 8lb 7oz mark. Was really hoping they would say my dates were off and make my due date earlier lol, not to be though. Although they have said they will induce me due to being so disabled:eek: with the spd. I'm thankful they have pretty much said its definite, but they also said may be 39 weeks rather than 38 weeks. If thats the case, it doesn't look like I'll make the pink concert on 26 June:mad: and I'll be gutted to miss it.

Carpal tunnel not too great either, fingers/hand getting sorer and sorer, making it difficult to grip the crutches. So have cut down going out even though I hardly went out anyway.

Had my exam couple of weeks ago and thought I had failed, as I found it really tough. Anyway, got results other day and I had passed with a fab mark of 74%, so delighted with that. Also started the next part of the course yesterday too, my sis managed to get on it, so I've got some company. That will keep me busy writing the 3000 word essay required to pass. Not due in until August 2010 but with baby being due sometime June I'll write mine before baby comes.

Otherwise, just making most of being off with kids through holidays as its the last big one before the baby arrives.

Definitely feeling much better in myself, think its because I'm into single digits ie 8 or 9 weeks so end is definitely in sight.

Glad they've agreed induction for you hun.
Well done on passing your exam, which course you doing now?
Sorry your hands are still sore :(

Its a three part course on oncology (cancer), my dad died due to it in 2001 and I've always had an interest. Done my nursing training and qualified 18 months ago and decided I wanted to pursue some further info/qualifications on it. I can put the marks towards a post grad diploma or work for longer towards a degree. Not quite made my mind up yet what to do, but if I want to go into specialist nursing then the degree is the way to go.

Kirsty, I do agree, it may be an extra week I need to keep going for but still better than the alternative.

Congratulations, i hope your pregnancy goes perfectly:grouphugg:. I have heard of slimming world during pregnancy, you must keep me posted on how you find this. I gained a lot in pregnancy :cry:so if i am blessed with more children i would definitely like to keep weight gain to a minimum! x

I don't know why but I thought you had done the degree top up course already, must've been dreaming.
Have work sent you on the courses? Mine wouldn't let me do any study days while I was signed off sick coz of "insurance" :( I done the degree as it's the only way to advance now really (and the funding was there ;)) but I didn't have any other commitments. If your department will fund it and provide at least a half day study leave (full day would be better but maybe that's just wishful thinking!) then go for it x

I have got my nursing degree, but I can build up credits through various oncology/pain/palliative care courses and get another specific degree.

I'm funding it myself, purely because its for me and not them. Being off sick just now has been ideal for doing the courses too.

Ha they probably fed me the H&S crap just coz they didn't want to fund anything when I've had so much time off lol. Scary to think I'll have been out of practice for the best part of 18 months when I go back!
Hope you're doing OK x
