Nurseberyl's Diary

Lol at the pair of you!!! I'm agreeing that graze sounds tasty healthy an generally a good idea but I'm deffo learning the how not too part from ya'll. I would order flapjacks an then scarf them!!! best if I learn some more control before I start grazing!!!

I found it helped keep me off crisps. I made sure I wasn't getting sent flapjacks or anything too high in cals. But a punnet here and there where I have extra cals is good cos otherwise I would probably just scoff some crisps.

I got one with choc coated coffee beans, the Jaffa cake one which was lush, a spicy cracker one and banoffee pie. All nice. Yes I had all 4 in the end :/ portion control is still an issue!!!!

Ohhh! I've always wondered about these boxes? Do the combinations even taste like what they say? Like does the banoffee pie combo actually taste like banoffee pie?

It did actually! I really liked the banana buttons. The jaffa cake one was amazing, it had orange rasins, dark choc buttons and hazelnuts, oh wow, the rasins were really orangey, so it did taste fab!

Well I still feel like poo today :(

As im a childminder and serve food, Ive had to register with the council as a food business! Like I am any sort of takeaway! Anyway the lady came round to inspect me this morning and she was lovely and gave me a 5 out of 5, I get a sticker and certificate and EVERYTHING ;) she showed me the food standards agency website where you can search for places in your area to check what rating they got, its very interesting! If you want a nosey... the greasy takeaway I used to get my kebabs from got a 0, nice!

Hahaha what a great idea for my OH! I can see his face now!

Do you think a 7 year old girl is too old for a sticker chart?

My 8 yr old girl still likes one :) but ours is a family one. We all have 'jobs' ;) my list is really really long!! This is because i thought it would be good if the kids decided on the 'job' allocation. But that's ok coz I get a LOT of stickers haha. They have to tidy toys brush teeth keep rooms clean etc. I have everything else :)

Haha, wow my list would be long too! My daughter is so bad with eating, i thought it may help. I dont know where she gets it from!!! she literally likes no veg and the only fruit she likes are dried fruit (full of sugar tho) and bananas, even a banana she chokes down like its poison
It really worries me!

My autistic son hasnt eaten a non chip or tomato ketchup based vegetable or fruit in 5 1/2 years. The nutritionist says it's obviously not ideal but the MAIN thing is to ensure they get the dairy products. If she seems healthy enough then try not to stress. The bigger an issue you make veggies etc the more she'll resist. Keep it all positive an fun an eventually she'll cave an eat some!!! I've been doing fun with healthy food for half a decade and he will now lick any piece of fruit I offer him!!! But he does have AS so is a tough nut to crack!!!!
Spag hoops are one of your 5 a day tho!!! So is fruit juice. So there's two......;)

Oh wow someone who understands!! My daughter will now lick things too its took a few years to get to that point! she will sometimes try the most tiny amount (unseen by the human eye tiny). But she seems to have to most amazing tastebuds and can taste everything! if I change a recipe, she will know. Shes only just accepted me adding pepper to omlettes. She does like dairy, she likes most white, plain foods, but not one vegetable. Did not know that about spag hoops!! she will also have an innocent smoothie if I nag enough.

It does worry/stress me out though. I have a friend who insists I should put her on school dinners or let her go hungry if she doesnt eat whats on her plate etc. But i am too soft I guess. I mentioned school dinners to dd and she burst into tears!

Got to stop watching Man vs Food. Anyone torture themselves by watching it? That show is food porn.

I LOVE that show. I literally drool at the television. The food looks amazing. Im sure if those sorts of foods were available over here I would be triple the size I am now!!! :D:eek:

Me too, I have saliva running down my chin! I still watch it though, although now I try to watch it while eating a meal so at least I dont want to run to america and grab the largest donut i can find!

I'll probably get trashed for this but I really don't think forcing the issue resolves anything in the long run. The inner workings of kids minds are unfathomable!! It could be that she really really hates say broccoli and when she's been told 'eat your veg' it's kind of transferred the evilness of broccoli to ALL veg. Or it could be a control issue. My little god daughter actually LOVES fruit. I've seen her eat her own bodyweight in strawberries but if her mum puts it in front of her? She won't eat them!!! And her mum is an amazing mom!! Patient, involved, thoughtful. There's no way to know exactly why some kids have such a massive block when it comes to carrots lol
If she's that aware of the taste changes then she's probably a little bit hypersensitive (which a lot of kids are to different things!!) plain White foods are generally fairly bland and predictable which makes them a safe option for her. Thats why its sooooo common for 'fussy eaters' (i hate that term!!!) to be ok with things like bread mash rice chips etc.
Im a bit obsessive with the research into J's Aspergers lol but funnily enough the reasons behind the eating issues are often the same for AS v's neurotypical kids. just more extreme!!! (let us never speak of the 8 months of American hotdogs at every meal!!!! I still can't look at one!!!)
My little man will lick stuff then take a tiny microscopic nibble......then either retch or take another nibble. But the second he take a pea sized bit then it's game over. Too overwhelming.
We've had semi success with what we call tasting plates. So one day I'll get 8 kinds of ham and he'll try a bit of each. Or 5 different ways of eating banana ( fresh sliced, frozen on a stick, in a smoothie, chopped very little in custard, dried) etc. The idea is to keep exposing him to foods in lots of forms. So yes he may not like a fresh bite of banana but LOOK it's TOTALLY different if we do THIS or buy THAT brand etc. So far we've got him regularly eating fresh roasted chicken (but only from a whole chicken for some reason lol) cheesecake (in tiiiiiiiny amounts) roast sliced lean gammon, mozerella cheese, meatballs and fresh squishy cream.

You'll note the distinct LACK of veg on this list tho lol
