Scatty's Food Diary

Memo to self: ALWAYS read the label

Sooo annoyed with self for not reading label on WW Beans - so I have been quite happily having a ww tin of beans (the large one) cos it said 2 pnts - well, thats what I assumed it said because a more than cursory glance today told me that it 2pnts for approx half the tin - not the whole bloody tin! - pffft.

I have gone back and amended all my points and I haven't gone over and neither am I in negative point territory, however I am now paranoid I have probably miscalculated other stuff too and I am now worried whether I will have a good loss come tuesday.

I know that it won't be a huge loss compared to LL, but I know from previous experience that the first week on ww is a large loss (providing you stick to it properly) , most of it water and subsequent weeks it calms down a bit but I was looking forward to a nice (reasonably) big loss on my first week.

blah

Scatty,
Which SnackaJack Popcorn are you having Hun???? I was wondering as I have SnackaJack salted popcorn and it is only 0.5points per bag! Do you know if there is a sweet one aswell?

Just seen some toffee butter or butter toffee ones in tesco!! - more calories - think around 145 mark and higher sat fat content (can't remember exact number) but there were deffo there.

Hey scattykookie,

I'm really sure u'll have a great weight loss, it's a really easy mistake to make, and beans is not the end of the world!!!

I got a bit confused about vodka, because I was reading online that a measure was 1 point, but then it hit me yesterday that an english measure is 25ml and an Irish one is 36.5, and is 1.5 instead of 1 point.

The first couple of weeks are about getting used to the diet, and slips are permissable.

So, today started off as per usual, but I had a family gathering to go to, which I had been dreading because I knew there would a ton of indian food and as I didn't want to advertise the fact that I was dieting.

Anyhoo all the food was homecooked so unable to point exactly and the eating out guide I found was for restaurent indian food which is normally swimming in grease and cooked in ghee or butter. I have pointed as best I can. I thought the best strategy would be to use a side plate as opposed to a dinner plate and pile it high with the salad and then just add a couple of tablespoon's of the veggie curries and hope that no one noticed that I wasn't tucking in with the enthusiam and gusto of the other guests. I didn't plan on having dessert.

Asian folk get very offended if you turn down food or only eat miniscule portions and kinda see it as a slur on the cook or the host. Anyhoo, I plan on keeping within my points tomorrow

Sunday 17th Jan 2010

Breakfast:
1 crumpet with 1 tsp of flora light:2pnts
2 slices of toast (WW danish bread): 1 pnt
2 tsps of Flora Light:1pnt
Total:4

Lunch: nothing

Dinner:
2 tbsp of dhaal (lentil) :4 pnts

2 tbsp of aloo gobi (potato & cauliflower): 4pnts
1 tbsp of raita (yogurt with mint and spices) 2 pnts
large salad with kidney beans/onions/cucumber/lettuce:2pnts (pointing because of the kidney beans)
half a plain white naan: 2.5pnts
1 cup of chai(spiced,milky indian tea) : 2pnts
Total:22.5

Total:26.5 before deduction from banked points (I have banked 7.5 points so far this week, so not gone over and still 3 banked points left )

Over by 3.5 points but of course it might be more because I am guesstimating the points value of the food. I didn't have a dessert - it was some mango/chocalate/cream concotion that looked lush but I could feel my hips widening just looking at it. I did fill my plate with salad and I did enjoy every morsel of food that passed my lips so I guess there was an upside to it all.

1st Weigh In

Tuesday 19th January 2010

So today was my weigh in day, I have lost 4lbs, which is not bad, not as much as I expected but it's 4lbs off and not on which is always a good thing.

After Sunday's family food thing I have decided to change my weigh in day to Friday - weekends always include a lot family type events which invariably involve food (my in laws are all foodies!) and with the best will in the world and even after making healthier choices I know I will end up perhaps going over my point or eating stuff I really should be limiting and therefore affecting my loss a couple of days later - my theory is if I stick to WW religiously over the week and save points where I can (if there is a dinner or function coming at the weekend) I can lesson the damage I do to my psyche and my weight loss not to mention the fact I can treat myself at the weekend along with hubby.
So my next weigh in will be next Friday - over a week away and it gives me ample time to lose a few more pounds.

Wednesday 20th Jan 2010

I have skipped breakfast and lunch today - not intentionally, just been a bit busy with LO and stuff round the house so have been ahem grazing a lot - lots of snacking going on which of course isn't great as eating on the go and randomly shoving easy to eat calorific stuff has always been a weakness of mine, but seeing as the house is bereft of anything remotely "junk foody" in the traditional sense my choices haven't been too bad considering!. Tomorrow I hope to settle my snacking.

Scatty,
You are doing so well Hun!!! I think for your family get together you probably over pointed if anything! Veggie curries and accompniments(sp? lol) are generally pretty low. Great idea to change your weigh in day. I think I may do the same thing.

Yeah it is the lightly salted popcorn that I have and it is half a point. Thanks for checking on the sweet popcorn for me, I'll have a look for it in my local Tesco's. I guessed it would probably be higher in points than the salted.

Welldone on your 4lb loss that is great! I too was expecting a bigger loss (1st time I did WW I lost 7lbs the 1st week and 16lbs in total the over the first 3weeks) but this time round my losses seem alot lower. Maybe it's cos I'm a stay at home Mum now and not as active? O well like you said, Pounds off are pounds in the right direction!!! (By the way How old is your little on? My boys are 4 and 8mnths)

Hope you have a Fab weekend Hun!!!

Hi hon,

Thanks for the words of encouragment, I too lost loads on my first week of ww when I did a few years ago - but I guess age and having a baby does strange things to your metabolism - also the years of yo yo dieting doesn't help - really, really mess's up your metabolism. I think that's why I determined to make this more of a lifestyle choice/change and not get completely disheartened at small losses or by my weekends when I have eaten off the normal WW menu. My little girl is 6 months old, I found that being at home with LO(little one) is one of the reasons for piling on the pounds after pregnancy - I carried on eating as if I was still pregnant, pretty much grazing all day - I wasn't even breast feeding either so can't use that as a reason!

Ok, the weekend was brilliant in terms of socialising and getting together with family and friends but pants in terms of food consumed and choices I made. I didn't have any junk food but it was hearty traditional home cooked food and as such I have no idea how to point it but I will write it down all the same, I think I managed to save some points throughout the week so that might have cushioned the blow but not by much. I am determined to not jump on the scales for a sneaky peak to see if my weekend of indulgence has wreaked it's revenge on my scales. But enough of the self pity....

Here it is;

Saturday 23rd Jan 2010

Breakfast: Nowt

Lunch:
2 helping of homemade vegetable pie (made with some sort of pastry and green garden veg)
2 helpings of cheese and potato pie
large salad
garlic bread (I accidentally on purpose forgot to count after the send slice ;) ) and some home made sponge cake with icing and jam.

Dinner:
Bhindi (okra)curry
Dhal (red split lentil curry)
Plain boiled rice
some curried potatoes.
Snackajacks chives and sour cream.

Sunday 24th Jan 2010

Breakfast: nowt
Lunch: nowt (not deliberate was busy cleaning the house top to bottom for guests who ended up not coming - but at least I have a spotless house now!)

Dinner:
Was my husband's nephews birthday.
1 helping of quorn lasagne
lots of potato salad
Lots of creamy coleslaw
Lots ofGarlic bread.
Tiny sliver of birthday cake (children's party cakes never do it for me!)

So I have no idea how many points I consumed over the two days - I guess I could research and then add them, but I am guessing I went over by a lot, but today is another day and I am back on track (hopefully).
