Shelbell's Baby Diary

Am feeling really down today and worried about bean. Everyone keeps telling me how small my bump is, well not even bump as I don't have one :( No-one believes that I'm almost 18 weeks.

My GP on Thursday even commented on it, and felt my tummy etc and said hmmm yes it is small. :( My womb is supposed to be above my naval by now and it's not, it's still well below it. I don't look at all pregnant.

The problem is, my health problems can cause growth problems in bean, so it is something I am hyper-aware of and worried about anyway. I'm sick of everyone making comments, and feel like yelling at them yes my baby is quite possibly not developing properly, are you happy now?

:cry::cry:

Aww

sorry your not feeling too good

i am no dr[have no brain] but i am sure your drs are keeping an eye on you and the baby

i'd speak to your dr if your still worried:wave_cry:

anyway mind yourself

Shel, I'm so sorry you're going through the worry at the moment ((hugs)). You are doing everything you an for bean and yourself so please hold onto that fact. x
Did the dr say how big your uterus is? I know that my midwife goes on 1cm per week..
Really hope that all is ok, ((hugs))

((Hugs)) well fingers x'd its not too far out. Was your son small when born? I know you have had problems since but just wondered if you carry small as many women do.
Such a worry when they don't give all the info we need isn't it. Do you see a midwife as well or just your Dr? If you do then perhaps it's worth getting her opinion.

No, my son was 8lbs 3 at 37 weeks, which was a bit of a medical miracle.

Had a huge chat with hubbs about it all last night. The main part for me is even if growth has slowed down already there is nothing they will do anyway. They will only start helping after 24 weeks :(

It's frustrating when everyone feels that they can pass judgement on the size of my tummy, they don't realise that there are real dangers for some of us and it's not good to be constantly reminded of that.

well why don't you mention your concerns to your gp who will be able to refer you back urgently to your obstetrician or midwife or both for an emergency scan if your worried about it

i hope your ok

sorry for being a pain.

Hun, I hope the next 2 weeks go quickly. Sorry was confused over your little boy ((hugs)). Reallly hope that bubs has a growth spurt to set your mind at ease.

How annoying people can be about pregnancy can't they ((hugs)). I do think sometimes they think it gives them a right to things other than you'd normally have. Would you believe my next door neighbour 'invited' herself to be godmother! We are not religious so it was a quick response from me, but if we had been she would have been very presumptious and rude if you ask me. We are not even that close!
Then you get the tummy touchers! lol I've had to ward off a couple already! So can totally understand your frustraition at peoples comments. Perhaps a quiet word with the ones you see regularly might help them appreciate the impact of their comments. ((hugs))
My mum was Scottish from the Highlands and she had a pet saying of 'none so ignorant as folk'.. this really does apply to their comments I feel.

Cheers PH :)

Seeing my GP in the morning so will probably have a good chat with him. Think the fact that I'm generally struggling at the moment isn't helping, all of my health problems are flaring up and wearing me out, making work a real struggle.

On a plus note have ordered our travel system today. The M&P Ultima we had chosen was discontinued in the colourway we wanted, and we didn't like any of the other options. So we have gone for a Britax Vigour 4, which my Ma has paid for, and I've ordered the Isofix base and an attachable changing bag for it too.

wow what a lovely travel system - we had a britax travel system with Erin, it was fantastic, never went wrong once so I'm sure you'll love yours.

Would it be worth asking your GP for some time off work? Seems a shame to push yourself health wise for work when you need to get some rest and have time, I know it'll mean you have a bit too much time at home but you can get in some relaxation etc that you obviously need. ((Hugs)) Might be worth thinking about.

Yeah I was thinking about signing myself off for a week, but at the moment it's not a good time. Am delivering a training course for a new cohort of volunteers and there is no one else who can deliver it in my place. That finishes on the 18th though so if I still feel bad I'll take a break then.

Sounds sensible, just don't push yourself too far hun if you REALLY need that break ((hugs)

Hope you feeling better Shel sending you healing thoughts know where your coming from my illnesses are playing up too.
Hope gp is reassuring, you can always phone your midwife she should see you sooner if you need her to.
Let us know how you on.

Ali

Might not be any consolation but my friend was told she had a 'very small' bump and the doctor was concerned about the size of her baby. He arrived 2 days past his date - 9lbs 10ozs perfect and is now a strapping big 17 year old with a typical 17 year old attitude :) My friend has commented many times that if 9.10 was small shes glad he wasnt huge ;)

Dont mean to sound flippant but a small bump isnt necessarily cause for concern *HUGS*

Thanks Starlight. The problem is it's more non existant than just small. I don't look at all pregnant when dressed, no matter what I wear!

well i hope you and the baby are ok. i hope your dr and specialist put your mind at ease. i am no dr [no brains] .

mind yourself. i can't imagine what it must be like trying to work when you are pregnant and have the ailments you have

Mornin all :)

Well, I have hardly moved from the sofa and bed for the last 3 days, and feel much better for it. Am back in work today, but only for a couple of hours, so hopefully that will be ok.

Bean is doing well, kicks are getting much more frequent and a lot stronger. 19 weeks today :) next scan is a week on wednesday so very excited!

Sickness seems to have died off again, and am managing to eat more now too. No change in weight though, but my waist measurement is increasing. So technically as baby is growing I am still losing weight, as I should be carrying 5-10lbs of baby weight now, but I've not gained any.

glad to hear that. take as much rest as you need. glad your baby seeems to be growing well despite your concerns

sorry if i am upseting you
take care

Hi hun, glad you are feeling better! :D and baby is reassuring you kicking around like a good un!
Also that your sickness has eased and you're able to eat again - always good for making us feel better eh! lol
Wow at the 5-10lb of baby weight, is that right!? if it is it's making me feel a bit better about my own weight! lol I have managed to stay the same for a few weeks now and am half a stone 'up' on when I first found out I am pregnant.

Anyway.. enough about me! lol Hope you're slower work rate can stick around for now, and your scan does really well next week goes well and that your consultants have great news ((Hugs)). How exciting to be at 20 weeks eh! :)
