Tough love - off topic and chit-chat

So how exactly do we turn "Don't eat too much, don't snack, do a bit more exercise" into a massive international slimming brand that makes us all millionaires?

Let's ask Weight Watchers ;)

Btw Smiley, I watched 'The Men Who Made Us Fat' series over the past couple of days and found it extremely interesting. I think it has definitely made me think about food a bit more. It's crazy really how we are being manpulated by the food industry. I think the chances of me drinking fizzy drinks regularly now are extremely slim!

I ALWAYS say this to
Hubby....I'm not thinking of food on a day but come a night time when watching tv I'm constantly battling snacking thoughts and part of the blame is the constant brain washing of food porn adverts, I mean really do we need 3 food ads in every break? They aren't allowed to advertise cigarettes cos they are bad for us, well KFC and maccy ds and burger king are bad but they still get air time. Obesity is st an all time high.....because we're food obsessed and getting continuous messages of junk food shoved in our faces, even idiots not in tv it's on the billboards and posters, on the frighing radio. I honestly think they should have to
Limit which ads they can show....food ads, one an hour, alcohol ads....one all night, in fact just get ridnof the ads altogether. I turn over now when they are on cos it really winds me up. It is like brain washing.

I'm so swollen today!!! My face looks awful, eurgh. I'll be going for a walk this afternoon hopefully that will help my mood and swollen face :/

Agreed! And the food industry fails to take responsibility putting the onus on individual choice! Whilst that is a part of it, they use our psychology against us. And they aren't behaving responsibly to reduce obesity either!

Hope your walk helps you feel better. Going to do my yoga video now, have dinner (Mediterranian Veg with a Tuna Pasta Bake! Yum!) and then off for a walk! Got to wait for the evening- it was 36c during the day today.

Ooh it's gloomy here :( I love the sun soooo much. The babies don't like it though bless em lol.

Caught up on posts and can now face the day! I'm going for a run (thanks to Bonnie's inspiring post) and going to cut out snacks for the day (thanks Lou). Later I'm going to work out how many calories I eat on a typical day. I tried calorie counting a few years ago using a website but only stuck it for a few weeks. Now that I've done SW I think it would be much easier to keep on top of, but I'm at target so shouldn't need to . . . I should be eating normally with my new found habits. But I'm going to check it out just to see. You guys have got me interested . . .

Have a good day everyone and be good!!

Maybe cc to learn how many you need to
Maintain would be useful? You can then see how much food you can have then once confident you could stop cc? I've just upped my cals to 1400 a day as I lost 2 pound last week having this amount.

it will never happen

most people want a quick fix, a pill, the easy route, validation of cheating and to hear "all the right things"

so kind of opposite to what we have here - hardcore, intelligence and support

weight loss brands say they support you but in essence their products are pretty much just as bad as everything else on the shelves

there is SO MUCH wrong with processed foods of all kinds, it makes me despair

wild caught fish and organic veg with carbs heavily restricted - thats the long term way out of this mess the western world are in

its too simple. How can you get the masses to believe in simplicity when they want everything in a garish box that tells them its "low-fat" and "sugar -free"

but if anyone wants to try and launch TOUGH LOVE go for it. I'll do the tough love, Smiley can do the science and anyone else can bring their specialist subject to the table

its not a diet plan, its a mindset for a way of life

Sell that and we've cracked it....

here's a mind-blowing solution Lou - don't watch TV - unless its the Olympics

BBC1/BBC3 all the way sister

no-one is ramming KFC ad's down your neck on there

you are the "habits" queen

see how long it takes you to realise that what happens in Albert Square, Corrie or Emmerdale isn't real life, is totally unnecessary and is a waste of your life?

bad habits die easy if you beat them to death quickly

Morning All - still around but having major internet problems - its up and down like a fiddlers elbow and sooooo slow - none of this infinity superfast broadband up here - more lke two tin cans on a piece of string!

Still sticking to plan and my exercise programme though. Rod - just seen your signature pic. Seriously?! :D

Yes, diet programmes that actually work don't make any money! Why have a punter take their cash away after a year, happy with their new lifestyle, when you can string them along for years and years handing over their fiver a week.

I don't disapprove Rod. Just made me laugh. What are you like! :)

Depends how you use the diet programme though. I follow WW but have not attended one single session or paid out for online. I have a subscription to the magazine so I can get up to date recipies and stuff and in January I purchased the up to date shop guide and calculator. I don't think they've seen more than £50 out of me! :)

My Mum and I did Weight Watchers together about 9 years ago and didn't pay a penny! Just got all the stuff off a friend who had done it. In fact, my friend did WWs that time ago and got down from 16 stone something to 11 stone something and she's managed to maintain it for all that time. We're not particularly close anymore but I might have to ask her about it. It's pretty awesome to maintain for 8-9 years!

I really like my SW group though, if anything, because it is one hour in a week that I make time for (not going to add up the time I spend on here!) focussing on my weight loss. It really helps to keep me focussed and I like to look in my little book and see the numbers going down each week. And weighing consistently on the same set of scales.

I'm not referring to myself Roddy boy, I just turn over as I said. But I'm talking about the HUGE Amount over obese people in this country who do watch tv, yes it's their responsibility but also it's the responsibility of those putting ads on aswell? Not everyone can see what's happening and make that link between watching food ads and feeling hungry, it's a cycle and a viscous one at that. I do honestly believe that it should be limited. It's not just confined to tv....it's on the paper, on bill boards, posters, radio, posted through your bloody letter box so unless everyone completely shuts off from the outside world I do think that some responsibility has to
Lie with the people who decide what ads go where. Every little helps. Young people need educating about food a d exercise not given constant images of burgers and chocolate and god knows what else. It's wrong and it winds me right up lol
