Wannabslim's Atkins diary- day 3

Thanks for that Nikki xxx

How do you count the gram allowance? Sorry it that's a thick question lol.

Well its literally just like Cal counting apart from loads of foods are free- meat (except some of the processed stuff like sausages), cheese, eggs... in "Induction" which is the first 2 weeks you can only eat certain things and then after that you can introduce more.. I recommend checking out some of the info on this part of the forum about Induction, there are some good links. You need to read up really as I am not yet 'pro' enough to properly explain it! Am getting the book soon but til then am using the advice of others. Sue (Sun) and Dancing are both quite knowledgeable! xxx

Oh mine can last for days and then when I get a grip I can’t imagine that I ate what I did. If that makes sense? Like I know what I eat is so bad and I can pile on pounds in a day but once I’ve started a “bad” day the rest of the day follows suit regardless of hunger etc. I know it sounds crazy. I have an amazing husband, good friends a job I like, a brilliant family yet my weight holds me back at every corner. For years I had a grip on it and loved my clothes etc. reading your diary from your dating days sounds so much like me – loving how I looked and lapping up all the male attention, Now I feel invisible and horrible. God where did that come from!
I am currently 15.4 (horrific) and I am 5’5” so want to get to 10 stone so over 5 to loose!! It just seems so much. I am a bridesmaid in 9 weeks and have a 14 dress to fit into, I need to get under 13 for that to happen. I feel like I am under a mountain of blocks right now and can’t find the way out, if that makes sense.

Apologies for banging on……

You are doing amazing well with your weight Karen, 20lbs is nothing in the grand scheme of things!!

OK so let's say i would eat a small tin of tomatoes - i guess i would just count the carbohydrate gram indicator on the back of the tin? How do you count salad and veggies though?

I know how you feel mate!! I am a total food addict - i think about it constantly - i have no idea how i've kept the majority of my weight off, i think it's due to vanity!! Since i met jimmy 9 months ago, it's been harder as i'm not getting dolled up to go clubbing twice a week!! Altho i do like to look nice for him, i also love going out for long indulgent meals with a bottle or 3 of wine thrown in!!

Last night driving back to jim's i passed loads of lovely country pubs and i felt very deprived that i couldn't just go and eat out last night - it made me so miserable and depressed. I then think life is too short for this!! I did stick to my SS but it was so hard. I lost a pound over night so i guess it was worth it eh? lol.

Good luck with getting back on track, you've done it before and you will do it again!!!

Karen, somewhere on here someone posted me the values of veg and stuff. Not sure if it is earlier in my diary or on a different thread. I recommend you have a look around and investigate this part of the forum as you will find most of the answers here already x

Hi Karen. I feel it is really worth getting the Atkins book. Without it I know I would have had foods which I would have thought would be acceptable, but are not.

I went from CD onto this and although I do miss fruit like wannabslim said, this diet is pure luxury.

I switched over the course of a week. Two CD shakes then one low carb (but not low fat) meal in the evening. Once I saw the scales didn't go up, I changed to one CD shake then two low carb meals...then after a week I was on Atkins all the way. I lost 4lbs my first week...which I'm really pleased about as on CD I had stalled to a lb or 2 a week. I think I 'stoked the fire' so to speak by eating and got my metabolism working. Problem with this diet is if you do mess up (even if its by mistake) because you are eating high fat I'm scared I will gain. I've just stuck to the plan and it seems to be working.

Good luck hun. Just wanted to say thank you to you....you were my inspiration to do LT/CD in the first instance. Your pictures are amazing hun.

Hi Shaz

Thanks hun, i have to say you are doing blimmin' amazing!! I had the atkins book a while ago and the counting carbs 20g thing confuses the hell out of me lol. After reading all the typical menu's on the diet i must say i'm flipping starving!! lol. Roll on my CD peanut bar at 1pm!

Thanks for your kind words, i don't feel much of an inspiration at the moment, i wish i could find a balance of food to get me out of the feast / famine scenario!

Maintaining is the tough part. Once in the zone with diets, I can stick to them 100% especially when it works through ketosis coz you cannot cheat, but once at goal thats when the hard work begins. I'm now at my target, but thought I'd be a size 12 when I lost the weight, but am a baggy 14 and a tight 12 (not a flattering look), so I'm sticking with the diet until I get in a 'nicely fitting' size 12. I know I'll have the same trouble as you once in my size 12! We want the foods we are not allowed. I crave sweet food at the moment, but I know I love WW frozen desserts. I'm going to make sure my freezer is full of yummy WW desserts/biscuits. If not I'll end up eating what my hubby buys (hate him...he eats what he wants and stays lovely and slim). He has the fridge stuffed with cheesecakes/chocolate/Eclairs and the cupboards are full of biscuits. I'm going to set a maximum weight gain and once it goes over that then I'm back on either CD or Atkins to take it off. I hope I can stick to that! Fingers crossed.

Thanks Karen - i just need to get my mojo back and go for it. Tomorrow i will start and with you guys on here doing it to it might get me to cop on!
I know what you mean about SS and the no life - i basically stayed in for weeks on end when i did it. Cancelled my whole life and didn't contemplate life socialising while on it. Eating is a natural thing and not to eat just seems so alien! I too piled on weight when met hubby - chineses and bottles of wine, not to mention long boozy pub lunches, have all taken their toll. At least on atkins you can have a steak and chicken breast and then feel semi human!
In the book it tells you how much lettuce etc to have so i have been thinking i will stick rigidly to that.
I don't think i can cope with measuring everything so i plan on sticking the meats/eggs and cheese and the allowed amounts of greens and that.
I am planning a day like this -
Breakfast - Scrambled eggs (2 eggs and water) with Ham
Snacks - Cheese String
Lunch - Meat (chicken breast/fish) with lettuce, cucumber greens
Dinner - Stir Fry with loads of parwns, cabbage, spring onin, pepper or maybe a pork chop and more lettuce, or a chicken breast stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon with greens.
The salam amounts are quite generous - i think if only having salad (lettuce & mushrooms etc) then you can have 320g per day or else have 220g and then 120g of brocolli, courgettes and veg from a list. So the diet is not quite the meat and fat feast i originally thought.
I think i am going to stay away from cream and too much cheese and try and do a healthy ish version of it!
Hope that helps!!

Blimey i'm so jealous of your hubby, can you imagine being able to eat whatever the hell you like and not put on weight? :sigh:

Gool luck with the last few pounds hun, but i agree the maintenance is so much harder than losing!!! Weird eh?

That's very helpful hun, thank you!! Sounds de-lish! All the best for starting tomorrow.... just look at what you've got to look forward to... lovely food and a lovely shrinking waist line... ;)

Look forward to seeing your progress lovely x

Just wanted to stop into my diary for a sec to say how pleased I am with myself. I survived my first temptation... a meal in the pub with a friend.

I had planned to just have an Atkins shake but ended up agreeing to a pub lunch...

Had gammon steak with egg, mushrooms and salad. No sauces. And I asked for it without chips and onion rings, but they brought it out with onion rings on (they got the chips part right at least) and I didnt eat a single bite... even though onion rings are one of my favourite pub snacks EVER!!

Yayyyy :D so chuffed that I ate all stuff that is allowed and not a single bite of anything untoward! Test completed. Now I know I can do this long term if I can eat in the pub and not feel that I have to give up the luxuries I enjoy. I even had a pint of diet coke to wash it down. Guilt free.

:) Xx

well done hun

Well done you. Isn't it great to be able to have a social life again. I really missed that on LT and CD. I went for a curry on Saturday (well meat and salad) and it was great spending a couple of hours eating and chatting with friends.

am a bit worried, told earlier today that we are going to a sri lankan restaurant tomorrow night, probably a lot of curries but with coconut cream, must try and stick with fish/veg/salad!

Morning diary readers!

I am pleased to announce that I have lost another lb since yesterday morning and am now bang on 13st! Another 1lb and I will be in the twelves :) I can't believe I have lost half a stone since Monday, its crazy!!! Really crazy!! After looking into Atkins a bit the last few days I plan to follow it to the letter with OWL, pre-maintenance etc as I don't want to put the weight back on. Will then go back to my healthy eating to maintain and can use atkins if I need to.

Am going to do Induction until I get to 12st, which is a stone away and which hopefully I may be able to achieve by the middle of June- is this possible? Then shall reassess but probably will then start OWL til 11st, then pre-maintenance to goal!

Whoooop!

Had an atkins shake for brekkie this morning as didnt fancy the whole bacon and eggs malarky. Did have a couple of chicken frankfurters- total carbs 3g, and my shake is 1.5g so I have had 4.5g. However I am sticking to free foods the rest of the day except for salad with dinner, so I should still be under my allowance which is good.

Am STILL missing fresh fruit, but to see half a stone off on the scales it's worth it!!!

Wahey :bliss: Xxxx

well done hunny, the way you're going on I cant see any reason why you cant aim for your stone loss, some people do see a slower loss on week 2 but it normally kicks in again by week 3.

Good luck hun and am glad you are enjoying it!

I still want to know how you managed to get such a high score on Americas Army, where did you aim? at his meat & 2 Veg LOL!!

sue xx

Well done hun. 7lbs in 4 days WOW...........and you are eating!! Gotta love Atkins.x

Hi everyone,

Sue I'm afraid my bf got that score when he hacked into my account for a day without me realising (my password is now changed!) as he is addicted to gaming!! I only earned one of my high scores myself!!!

I have had another good day today. Have felt really peckish so have been trying to limit the damage by sticking to cheese strings. They are 0g carb and only 69cals a pop so have had a fair few of them (not telling you how many!!).

Lunchtime I went to the pub but the meal I had planned I couldnt have as they had ran out. I ended up having Hunters Chicken with salad, no chips or dressing. That was all free except the BBQ sauce, which I don't want to know how many carbs was in it, all I know is it probably was too many but it was lush!!

Hoping it won't have done too much damage.

Am a bit concerned about 2 meals out next week. 1 is an indian and another is pizza express. 1 is a birthday which I can't miss and another is a work trip to london and we are taking the kids for pizza for lunch, so can't skip that either.... will try and have salad at the pizza place but what can I have at the indian? any suggestions?

I am really chuffed today. My boss, who has been off since last Friday, was back in the office today. First thing she said was: "cor blimey nic, have you lost weight or what? You look really slim around your face and shoulders! Don't tell me you are dieting again!!" so I had to come clean about the old diet thing, which I hadn't really wanted to do... but the good thing I suppose is that I have lost enough weight already that people are noticing!! In fact that is a very good thing really! Just a shame she is gonna be on my back now for dieting, she doesnt really 'agree' with them, even though she is overweight herself and plans to diet before her wedding next yr. She's very sceptical about anything that isnt balanced, and I can sorta understand why, but as yet she hasn't criticised Atkins so am happy.

Shazpaz, even if my losses do slow down, if I can achieve that stone I will be so chuffed! To be less than 12.7 will be a massive achievement as that is my lightest weight since I was 16 apart from when I was on CD for a couple of months last year (before I fell off the wagon and then put it back on again). So if it takes me a few weeks to get there thats fine!

Off to pop my food in the oven now and I have sf jelly for dessert- yummy!

xx
