when they find out you are on Exante?

    Are they supportive?

My mum didn't really say a whole lot, apart from complaints when I have chocolate shakes as they smell "mouldy" apparently :p

Most people thought I was being a bit silly and they though a vlcd was very dangerous yadeya.

Luckily I have a supportive family and without that I would really struggle xx

My family have ben really supportive. They all tell me I'm strong by sticking to it because they think they would find it very difficult.

The in-laws take the piss though. Every time we go to MILs, she wil ask if I want something to eat. Each time I say "No thank you" and she replies "What? Is my food not good enough for you?" Well no it isn't, actually! You feed your family ****, its no wonder a lot of them are overweight (I obviously don't say that though, I like my life! Lol) She then says "You're silly, you'll waste away to nothing if you carry on" Grrrrrrr!

From what I have experienced, you can usually separate people into 4 categories:

    1. Those that are negative because they simply do not understand a VLCD or our reasons for wanting/needing to do it.

    2. Those that feel threatened that we have the strength to make such a big change in our lives, because they are unable to take the necessary steps to overcome their problems.

    3. Those that are supportive because they do understand the diet and our reasons for doing it.

    4. Those that don't understand the diet but will support us anyway, because they understand our reasons for doing it and our happiness is important to them.

Obviously people in the 3 and 4 category are really the only ones you need to take any notice of.

Some of the people in category 1 or 2 can sometimes be converted to a 3 or 4 if you take time to try and educate them, but most of them are generally too selfish to bother.

People have been OK about it (at least to my face). I didn't tell anyone other than immediate family and close friends. Now I have told a few people at work as they were worried that I wasn't eating anything during a 12 hour shift.

Everyone is interested and open minded. Although my BF kept pointing out cakes and free samples today while at Costco today (she just has a crap memory!).

More and more people are asking if I'm dieting, as the weightloss is getting noticeable now.

I just tell them its sort of cambridge, but with low carb meals sometimes.

some friends you will find enjoy you being fat, they will tell you it's dangerous, try to feed you rubbish and keep telling you, you've lost enough when you're still over a 16. My mum and dad worry I'll become anorexic (yeah, like that's ever going to happen) and my outlaws who are toxic don't say a thing my mother in law just ignores me or is nasty to me (ah shame, don't visit then) ha ha.

I've got some really nice friends (yes you beaut) who are mega supportive, will give me honest opinions and think I'm great for sticking with this.

Please yourself, you're getting healthy for you, let them eat the rubbish and say stuipid things, laugh at their tiny minds and tiny lives, we're in it to win it. xxx

Had to laugh when I read this as BF said the same thing and I thought he was nuts, but maybe they do? I don't think they do. He kept smelling it whenever he came into the house.

No-one ever says anything negative to me - maybe they're scared lol. I have had loads of people quite impressed though and saying that they could never do without normal food.

This is so true. I had a friend that when I started was soooooooo negative about it all the time - she was definitely in the 1 category. We had a long talk about it, as it was getting a bit ridiculous. A few months later and she's a complete convert, and is now telling her other friends about it who are complaining about their weight! (She doesn't have a weight problem at all, so has never really had to look /think about diets)

My mum, sister, brothers and friends are all really supportive and ask how I'm doing and are really careful to not ask me for food and my brother, bless him, will leave the room if he wants to eat junk food!

One of my aunties on the other hand is really negative and keeps saying I'll never stick to it and that even if I do I'll never get smaller than a size 18 :(
    I'll show her though!
I think she's just jealous coz she's a large lady and would like to lose weight but so far hasn't succeeded.

Thanks Dutch... I wouldn't be doing this diet if it wasn't for Dutch, who is extremely supportive and her loss of 10 stone previously has given me the inspiration.
People say to me "you have lost enough weight now" and "when are you going to start eating, it's not good for you...e.t.c" - This annoys me because people don't understand that your not going to stop for them.
People have even started talking to me from college who would never talk to me before...this really annoys me!
My family are verysupportive especially my Grandad hehe. But my Dad said "oh it's bad" then he tried it for 4 days and gave up and doesn't understand how i've stayed 100%...but no point in cheating, only cheating yourself...

The last time I lost a lot of weight (ten+ years ago!), my in-laws continually told me this when I was 11 stone. I'm not tall, so this is still 2 stone overweight for me.

I got really bloody pissed off with it, especially my father in law, who told me I was starting to look "too thin" and "ill-looking".

I wasn't. I stopped dieting when I hit 10st 7lb, and looking back at my pictures, wasn't scrawny at all.

They didn't mean it nastily at all, they are just old fashioned.

But I won't listen to this tripe this time round.

I totally understand what you mean, but mine was the other way round, my Grandma used to tell me whenever she saw me, "I was fat and needed to go on a diet and loose weight". This made me even more angry and gain weight as I didn't want to loose weight for someone else. But now want to loose it for myself.
I've told myself people are just jealous...
I'm only 5" tall...and when I told my mum I wanted to loose 7 stone...she thought I was crazy! But i would just be my ideal weight so gonna go for it while I've got the motivation...and ignore all the dicks out there!
I love this forum just to get encouraged and encourage others :) xxx

I know where you are both coming from being told in one ear to shed the pounds while in the other ear you’re hearing how you need to be fattened up.

In my mothers mind VLCDs are even worse than magazine gimmick diets you know the famous people; the Kerry Katona et al. diets with the “how I lost ten pounds in ten days”. She says that they dress it up to look "pharmaceutical", I have hear “if you can be controlled enough not to eat at all how come you can't be controlled enough to eat healthily and exercise more”. She is not overweight or ever had the struggle of yo-yo dieting having never risen above a size eight. I do believe that my body is an embarrassment to her, after all how could someone as well turned out as her have such a mess of a daughter. I’m an adult yet I still feel guilt when I see her disapproving looks when it’s mealtime. My husband is also of the “eat less move more” brigade. Oh if only my life was as perfect as theirs. Needless to say they do not know about my Exante journey, no one does.
