1st day Low carb - could you check my menu please!

fatgirlslims

is going all the way...
I've signed up to 28 days of Go Lower to get my low carbing off to a good start, but my packs still haven't arrived and I'm keen to start.

Here's my planned menu for today and tomorrow. Would any experienced low-carbers mind checking it over and letting me know your comments? Thank you!

Today
B: 2 hard boiled eggs, unsweetened decaf soya latte
L: Green salad with chicken breast,1/2 avocado, 30g feta, parma ham, dressed with olive oil
S: 100g strawberries with double cream
T: 2 pork steaks with cauliflower mash

Tomorrow
B: Low carb bar, decaf coffee
L: Same as yesterday
S: Same as
T: 3 egg omelette with 1 courgette, handful of mushrooms & 30g cheddar

Planning to drink 3 litres water both days, take the dog for a 5 mile walk this eve and poss swim tomorrow.

Looks OK to me, on Atkins Induction the strawberries might be a little OTT 1 cup = 10G carbs. But if you are doing general low carb then I don't suppose you have set yourself the 20 carbs a day limit. :)

Oh and no sugar on them right. :D

In strict Atkins they say your body will use the caffeine as an energy source before it will burn fat.

I know everything. ;)

You do don't you! One more question, I've done low carb before and gave up after 2 weeks. The reason was that I felt sluggish on it. I'm quite active and thought I needed more carbs to feel good.

So, low-carb / atkins guru, can you tell me:

- Was this just my excuse to give up the diet? (ie is it a storm that everyone weathers at about this point, and then it gets better?)

- At what point do energy levels start to rise on this diet?

- Should I be fine on this regardless of how active I am?

- How long should I persevere this time, regardless of how bad I feel, to check whether it really is working for me?

Does this make sense at all?

Thank you very very much, Jim

Yes basically. :D

It varies, usually between 1 and 2 weeks, It was about 9 days in my case, I just woke up one morning totally energised.

- Should I be fine on this regardless of how active I am?
I don't see why not, providing you're eating enough .

I think you should give any diet plan at least a full month to see if it is working and if it suits you.

I find a lot of people new to Low Carb try and do it low fat as well, that is not what it's about love.

:D

Hello

Just to put my oar in as well... I lost 24 lbs by low carbing – a diet I tweaked myself so not strictly Atkins – and have so far kept it off for 9 months. I’ve heard good things about Go Lower although not done it myself.

Your menu plan looks good! Watch out for the soya milk – some of the brands are sweetened with apple juice which is no go. A good one to buy is Alpro Light, in a red pack in the chilled section. It's super low carb and tastes slightly of vanilla which I think is quite nice.

Also I’ve never been sure about low carb bars – heaven knows what they put in them. But that’s just IMHO.

I have to admit, I couldn’t do without my coffee. And I confess I had full caff cappuccinos most days... (well you’ve got to have some vices) but I still lost weight. I’m not endorsing it though!

Low carb is fantastic – stick to it because it really does work, and you get to eat lovely food. Good luck!

.and I'm not going to throw the towel in if a cup of caffeinated happens to slip past my lips!

I like your attitude! well done.

Ditto Jim! Better to drink a cup of coffee than eat a slice of cake. And even if you do fall off the wagon, just dust yourself off and carry on. About a month into my weight loss I went to do a cookery course in Devon (great timing, huh?). I made the decision I would put everything on hold for two days (and that included a cream tea), then get right on with it again. Actually still lost one pound that week.

Jim, this is going to sound a bit bunny boilerish, but I had a dream that I met you last night!!;)

  :bolt:

LMAO, nice dream then love. :D or was it a nightmare. ROFL

Did I scare you, Jim?

In my dream you were explaining to me where you got those framed cream kitchen units with the granite worktops in your 'after' photo... that's all. How boring is that? I'm a bit obsessed with kitchens at the moment because I'm trying to sort out a new one for my mum's house. When I was writing my post last night I was thinking yours looks quite nice. It obviously found its way into my subconscious!

So... where did you get your kitchen?;)

LOL

Some place in Cannock near Lichfield love, can't remember the name, they specialise in Artisan and Shaker style stuff. You go and see them, or they come to you, you give them an idea of what you want and then they come up with designs based on your kitchen area. Be warned, they are VERY VERY expensive, eye wateringly so. I just paid for what *SHE* wanted. :(

Oh and the rose granite tops which you pay for separately cost and arm and a damned leg as well.

Cool! There is quite clearly a woman's touch behind that choice of kitchen!!:D I'll probably go down the John Lewis route for my mum (she's in SW London). Trouble is she doesn't know what she wants and can't make up her mind, and I know whatever I choose she won't like. Sigh.

BTW, if I've not said this before I'll say it now - you really do look fantastic in your after shot - almost as good as your kitchen;). Seriously though, you are a changed man.

LOL

It is a nice kitchen I'll give her that. The floor is the original from when the house was built in 1870.

Thanks love, I feel a new man. I posted a big screed about how the weight loss changed my life on my success story thread.

Funny, I was admiring the floor too. And the range cooker. And the cool tiles.

I'm in awe of your losing 167lbs. Me going from 11 stone to nine and a bit is a drop in the ocean in comparison, but I feel SO much better in myself, so you must have that feeling tenfold. I'm off to read your thread...

It's a long read, I'm a gobby bugger. :(
