B210K

Get girls, sounds as if you're all making good progress. I seem to have twisted something in my foot (not whilst running, I think I turned awkwardly on it when a bit tipsy the other day). I've been doing all the usual stuff, and its five during a run, but seems to tighten and get sore immediately afterwards. We'll see.

Anyway, I've now finished week 3, covering about 5 miles. Getting a little more pace now (helps that I've finally stopped puffing cigarettes) and an generally enjoying all the runs. I'd love to hit 10k in 60 minutes, but I think it might take me a while to realise that ambition.

Hope your run went ok Jools :)

Sounds like your making great progress Pinkie. Well done on the ciggy's, that's a huge achievement!!

Good luck with your run Jools xx

Hope your run went ok Jools :)

Well there's good news & there's bad news. Let's get the bad over with. I'm in pain again this morning after my run last night BUT the good news is it's not anywhere near as bad as the last two times.

Not sure if it was the shorter, slower run that helped or the fact I've rested it two weeks.

So now I have a dilemma. Do I still go & see a sports injury therapist for some proper advice or just keep resting it till my race in Sept & see how I get on?

The thought of not running till Sept fills me with dread to be honest. I may rest it till the weekend & then do another slow, steady 5k. I think then I'll be able to see where I'm at.

What do you all think? x :)

Hi all, hope you don't mind me gatecrashing this thread early! I completed C25k about 3 weeks ago, but was running ridiculously slowly so decided that before I made the jump to B210k, I would whiz thru C25k again aiming to do all my running faster. Now I still have a good 6/7 stone to lose so what is fast for me, is still probably slow for some of you skinny minis but at the end of the day I'm pleased I'm doing it.
I started again 10 days ago and did wk3 d1 last night-as am going out more than 3 times a week-I was doing my 3 sessions last time and going to the gym/classes 1 or 2 times aswell :) so have just dropped the gym for a bit over the summer :)
I'm aiming to have Finished it again by the end of September and then I'm gonna crack on with the 6 weeks to 10k! Am desperatly trying to find a 10k run for sometime in November-but no luck so far-my Marine mate is also looking for one for me to do :)

Blimey Welshtigger, you don't look as if you have that much to lose!! I shouldn't worry about your times. I'm quite slow too but I'm more interested in just getting out there and running and doing the distance. Speed will come naturally with time and you risk injury if you push yourself too hard.

Jools, I think going out at the weekend may be the best thing to do but perhaps only do 1.5 miles or 2 miles so you don't over do it? I know it's difficult not to run when you really want to. Hope you manage to work something out xx

Thanks, but I'm only talking about my pace now being about 11.5 min miling-I was SO slow before my mum could walk with me at the same pace xx

Hi Jools, Have you thought any more about what to do? Maybe seeing a professional for advice could be worth doing. I know when I used to play football a lot (in my teens) I didn't listen to doctors' advice about resting my injury and ended up worse off for it (torn ligaments).......

But I know you must be really frustrated, especially since you have a race coming up.

Perhaps going out at weekends only and taking it easy could be a way forward...I don't know what I would do if I were you. Sorry for not being very helpful!

I'm finally coming to join you all & starting B210k on tuesday. I finished C25k tonight & done a 45 minute run (just to see if I could!!! lol) so what I'm wondering is how did you all find the transition between the 2??

Jools - I really feel for you, I would be feeling pretty gutted in your shoes. Think I would be tempted to see the sports specialist for some proper advice. Running when you should be resting may cause more damage. Anyway they may be able to get you back on your feet much quicker? What distance is your race?

Sweet: well done for completing C25K!!!
B210k is bit of a challenge to start with, but you soon get into the swing of it. :)
How are you doing with the kettlebells? I am so close to goal again, so concentrating on reaching it, then hitting the bells again. (I found my weightloss stalled whilst using them). :)

Welshtigger - great to see you on here. Speed will improve in time. I struggled a little finding a race, so ended up with a cross country run, which is not ideal, but the timing was right. I am also debating whether I should sign up for another 10k on Jan 1st!! Can't decide, do I drink on new years eve or run the next day???

Thanks! I reckon you should do the 10k, which will make you feel better in the long run? I'm hoping to do the Plymouth Half in May so that's my long term goal, altho my mate is trying to persuade me to do the Brighton marathon in April-am tempted to be honest, as it's 8 months away-but will see!! I just wish I could find stuff more local-I live in north Wales so both or those are atleast 5 hours away lol x

Morning gang. Well I went to see a specialist (& wished I hadn't! !). :(

I'm out of action for 3-6 wks minimum.

He gave me a massage & some ultrasound treatment on it while I was there.

He's also given me loads of great advice, hot/cold compresses, ibrofen & some stretching exercises to help speed up the healing process but he's recommended NO running till I've FULLY recovered. He said 3-6 wks but in his experience will be more like 6-10 wks!! :(

I'm so upset.

Welcome to all the newbies. Please excuse my self-pity this morning. x :)

Oh Jools that's awful. :-(
I guess the only positive thing is, you will be able to continue running once you are fit enough. Did they say what the problem was, or how it may have happened?

He said it wasn't Achilles tendonitis yet but that's what it'll turn into without treatment. He thinks it's currently a combination of achilles tendon & soleus muscle strain. He was a bit stumped as to why it's happened though as he didn't think my training schedule was the cause & he also didn't think it was biomechanical (I don't run funny!). Probably just one of those things unfortunately. x :(

Jools, I am gutted for you as I know how well you have been doing & how much you enjoyed it. Reading about your progress through B210k was such an inspiration to me.

Shazz, I'm dead excited about starting though I will only be able to get out running twice a week so it might take me a bit longer to complete. I'm still swinging away 3 times a week & avoiding measuring inches until I finish 2nd time round. I know what you mean about your weight stalling mine has slowed too but I have more inches to lose than you so I'm hoping that when the inches stop the weight will catch up. I know I'm dropping dress sizes so that is some consolation for the scales being unkind :D

Thanks so much, that means a lot.

Hope your progress is much less eventful & far more enjoyable. x :)

Jools - After you have heeled properly can you go back to the program, or have you got to follow a plan? Hope your not in too much discomfort.

Sweet - good luck with those inches. I look forward to hearing how your doing with B210k. I normally run twice a week, occasionally three times, so you'll be fine :)

I go out again for an hour tomorrow. I think this will be the seventh time I run an hour, but I am really really slow. I reckon once I get paid I'm going to buy a Garmin Forerunner watch, (so I can finally measure distance, speed and it even does heart rate). Never ever thought I would wish to possess such a thing!

I have finally got my first run done a day earlier than planned :D I made the mistake of starting out too fast & by the last 5 minutes of the final run I felt as if my lungs were going to pop!!! I slowed my pace & finished though so I am really chuffed & looking forward to getting out again on thursday :D

Biggysmalls, I would love to get a heart rate monitor that measures calories too. does the garmin forerunner do that as well?? It sounds useful to know what distance your doing eachtime. At the minute its not too bad because where I run (along a towpath) is marked out at various points so I always have a good idea but as my running progresses I think it would be great to have & know if I was improving or not
