Thanks everyone!
Hey Big Birdy know what you mean about the old hip thing - being nearer to 50 than 40 i get a few twinges meself!
Yes, very enjoyable and highly recommended. Will work on getting my brain to connect with my arms, legs and hips over the next few weeks!
Hi everyone!
Only 0.5lb off for me this week, but better off than on :vibes::vibes::vibes:gotta keep with the positive vibes and only another 5.5lb to Easter target.
Well done everyone else on your losses this week
Sammy x
Well, i went last night, and........
Really enjoyed it!! Lots more people there than i imagined there would be, the age range must have been from early 20's to about 60 and all shapes and sizes so i didn't feel out of place at all.
We did a warm up which included some wiggly belly dance moves...
Hi Christie and welcome!
For lunches i like:-
Savoury rice with salad chopped up into it (celery, carrot, tomato, red onion, cucumber, half an apple, lettuce, red pepper) sometimes with a bit of low syn dressing.
The same salad but with cous cous instead of rice
Salad & cottage cheese...
Oh yes, know Grays, have to take m-i-l to the very nice butchers there (can't remember their name), it's the only place she'll get her meat from, mmm they do looovely sausages
Don't even dare to think of McFlurry's at the moment, and feeling very virtuous as we have a McD's near work...
Yea, i do the same with cous cous too (and i make them up with some Chicken Bovril to add a bit of flavour if you just have the plain ones).
You can also add hard boiled eggs (free food) as well as or instead of the Babybels.
Makes a good packed lunch to take to work i find - and your...
Hi, yes, i like to let mine either cool a little or go cold and chop up salad to go in it (apple, carrot, pepper, onion, cucumber, celery, lettuce, tomatoes) plus chop up 3 Mini Babybel Light (HEA), found it makes a lovely filling lunch.
Will look forward to reading your diary and seeing how you get on. At least you know the water retention thing is only temporary - till next month anyways. Yes, i always get ravenous beforehand too - always get a good attack of the snackies. I try not to keep biccies or cake in the house cos...
Hey Happe, mother-in-law lives at S.Ockendon so i get down that way sometimes, visit Lakeside etc. - won't be nipping into McD's for a Mcflurry next time tho' :giggle:
Yay, that's the spirit, back to it now and those 5lbs will soon be gone - a minor blip - always hard when there's lots going on in your life. Good to see you back :)
These comments from SpaceAngel are spot on - the people at our group who always lose are the ones that maximise their free and superfree foods and use all their syns. Our group leader is ALWAYS telling us "you've got to eat it to burn it". After all these years of "dieting = deprivation" i was...
Ooo wondering if i should "panic buy" some :giggle: Still, i guess if the worst comes to the worst can always have Extra Virgin Olive oil as a HEB, or 2 syns for a tsp.
This might be a daft question but how many sprays do you guys use when using frylight? For my meat free burgers yesterday i...
Hi Ruthy
Thanks for the info. I guess we're on a continual learning process on this - finding what suits us and what doesn't (like you with the bread). As i've said previously i spent quite a while stuck at 1 to 1.5 stone above goal and couldn't understand what i was doing wrong as i thought i...
Hi Rachel and welcome to Minimins, everyone is friendly and supportive here. Well done on your weight loss so far - i'm sure you'll lose that pound this week and make it to your first stone off. Look forward to reading about your progress.
No, can't say i do either. Isn't it strange we all speak English but there is a definite Transatlantic language barrier, had all kinds of mix-ups when i was in Canada last year.... :o
Hi and welcome! I don't eat much meat, but i still have both red days and green days, for instance tomorrow will be a red day and my planned menu is this:-
Breakfast: 28g Shreddies (HEB), fat free nat yoghurt, fruit, milk (HEA)
Lunch: 2x Sainsbury's Meat free burgers (1 syn ea.) 42g Mozarella...
Hey Flab-u-less-Flower, enjoyed reading your maintenance post and know i'll be referring back to it for inspiration from time to time when i'm at goal.
Wise words from a wise lady. Thank you!
All the best with SW domino, you should steadily lose your 2 stone on the plan. As Steph says everyone here is really helpful and friendly, you'll getlots of encouragement and motivation. If you are stuck for menu ideas there are recipes posted and quite a few people post a rundown of their...
Hey Happe - another 2lb is great stuff, and :wow: 15lb in two weeks is amazing! Well done for getting through your stressful evening without falling off the wagon - always hard i know
Oh good for you! Go for it and be sure to let us know how it goes. I did look into it, and Burlesque but the nearest classes i can find are in London. Saturday daytime ones were all booked and i don't fancy going into town on my own in an evening. On my list for the future though!
Thanks all...
Thanks for your kind words Flab-u-less-Flower, yes, taken me long enough with a fair period of time where i was "stuck" but losing well again now following the Slimming World plan. Just got to keep at it, then keep up the good work.
I see you have maintained your weight loss for nearly a year...
And... Another 2.5lbs gone forever.... (ok so i'll be optimistic here ;))
Feeling motivated and full of energy. So much so that i've decided to go to a beginners belly dancing class, starting next Tuesday. Figured it was about time i took some exercise and wanted something fun and different...
Hi Bumpy0
You'll find info of meets by following this lik:-
(here goes this is the first time i've added a link!)
http://www.minimins.com/meetings-events/
And rainbow you're right about Cat, she should be a motivator, she's lovely and always full of encouragement to everyone on here!
Thanks Delli, i dunno if its so much confidence as sheer throwing caution to the wind haha, i never had much confidence - and was always the shy retiring type - until i turned forty then started to think, sod it, lifes too short!
The last few years, especially since losing some weight, i've...
Now i'm just a stone away from goal i've finally plucked up the courage to have go at something i've always fancied - belly dancing!
I'm going next Tuesday to a beginners class. Haven't a clue what to expect really, was just told to wear something comfortable. Ooo can't wait now :D
Keep...
Yea, don't worry too much - real life has a habit of getting in the way all the time :hug99: I just keep thinking of the slogan that i've seen on Mini's signature - "keep moving forward and never give up" i find myself repeating it to myself if the going gets tough. Sad but true! :wavey:
For really quick and easy i get the Tesco smoked salmon trimmings (£1.18/pack) and use half a pack chopped up in a three egg omelette, cook in the microwave and bung on a slice of toast (HEB) yum, sometimes its breakfast, sometimes its lunch with a salad.
Don't get disheartned just keep...
I've got the following:-
100 Green Recipes
100 Free Original Recipes
100 Delicious Desserts
all of which were £2.95 from the group i go to
My daughter has lent me the Food Directory which gives 39,000 syn values of branded foods including supermarkets own. I've found it really useful, i...
:talk017: Way to go Ruthy!! Well done, that's amazing, can tell you're really happy. Great stuff!
Off to my weigh in now, erm, think i'll take a tip from you and visit the loo first tho' LOL :D
Steph, did you make the hamburger yourself or was it a bought one? Been getting a bit of a burger craving this week and have bought some Sainsbury's meat free, frozen ones. Not tried them yet - they'll be my weekend treat (1 syn ea. on red or green)
Yes, Ruthy is right the Batchelors one seem to be free on green. I bought the Tesco's own ones this week (cos i'm a cheapsgate) and some of them have syns which i didn't realise. Mind you only 1 to 1.5 per whole pack so not too bad.
Oh :wow: well done Bumpy0, that's great!
Will report back later after weigh in. I'm sure i've lost again, i feel thinner if you know what i mean (me works trousers aren't cutting me in half and the button nearly popping off if i breathe out LOL!)
:party0019: Oh, good going Sarah! That's a great loss in just 6 weeks.
Are your clothes feeling looser already? I seem to remember reading on here somewhere that a stone lost = dropping one dress size, dunno if thats right?
Yes, love them Blue Dragon stir fry sauces and i usually have it two days running - one day with noodles and no meat (green), and the next with turkey or chicken but no noodles (red). I usually get the tesco ready to chuck in the wok stir fry veg (only £1 pack & lasts me the two days) and the...
Quorn sausages & omelette
Cottage pie made with meat or quorn but mashed swede instead of mashed potatoes. Veg
Turkey or chicken, stir fry veg & beansprouts, soy sauce
This thread has made me laugh so much! You are all nuts for sure! Only tried self-waxing (legs) once did one, oh the pain, ended up shaving the other one.
Only got a couple of sprouty hairs on my chin which i pluck when i notice them getting longer. I thought it was my age and hormones (late...
Thanks Vicx. No i've only been on SW for the last month - i started a couple of years ago on Rosemary Conley online, stopped for a bit but carried on eating healthily but kept getting down to a stone from goal then just coming to a standstill. Piled on half a stone over Christmas and thought i'd...
Brocolli and Sweetcorn Soup
Serves 4
2.5 syns per serving on a green day
6 syns per serving on an original day
1 whole head of broccoli
1 large onion
1 courgette
1 325g tin sweetcorn (no added sugar or salt)
mixed herbs
4 tsp Chicken Bovril (or to taste)
4 tsp cornflour...
Yea shame about the cheesecake (something i love!). I made the chocolate cheesecake from the SW "100 Delicious Desserts" book at the weekend when i did lunch for my daughters - it was totally disgusting :o
In the evening mum cooked a family meal for us all. Did the Raspberry Crunch from the...
to name just a few:-
The African Queen (Humphrey Bogart) - don't ask me why i just love this film.
Brief Encounter
Fifth Element
Highlander
Star Wars, first 3
Mad Max 1, 2 & 3
Shrek 1, 2 & 3
Probably loads more but can't think of them at the moment.
Years ago on satelitte i saw a film about a...
Thanks Sarah, i'll think about having a go at that. I've just had a look in my SW pack and have the booklet called Mix 2 Max and Success Express. Think i was just ignoring them while i got my head around "standard" SW original and green days!!
Hey Bumpy!
Like Happe says, get straight back to it TODAY, not thursday. Put what's passed behind you and get back on track sooner rather than later. We all know what it feels like and know that you'll feel all the better for letting go of the small hiccup and going forward, healthily!
Hope...
Hi Piglet
Well done on your CD losses. I have so much admiration for the folks who follow the CD plan. I love food and don't think i could do it. As others have said you won't get the big losses on SW but you should lose steadily. I usually alternate red and green days, or sometimes two red...
Hey Domino, welcome! Don't worry i'm sure you can soon lose that stone on SW, i put on half a stone over Christmas but have now lost it and am on my way down again. Always so easy when you gain to just say sod it and dive straight into the biccy tin, even when you know in your heart of hearts...
Mostly like Irene:-
homemade soup & wholemeal roll as (HEB)
salad with 3 Babybel Mini Light (HEA) chopped up into it
hard boiled egg salad
all good for red or green days
Mixed beans (out of a tin) and salad
Cous cous and salad
If at home and able to cook lunch i like omelette
Yea, i know what you mean and i was kinda afraid of getting on the chips to start with. The first week i made them i did a mix of potato chips and butternut squash chips but this week i just went for it. They really filled me up and i honestly couldn't have eaten another thing.
Lost 1.5lbs at...
Phew! didn't expect to lose this week but did, 1.5 pounds. Really pleased! I've even had a small glass of wine each evening and counted it on my syns.
Cherish your 8lbs in the first week was great and yes it's really good to be able to follow a plan where you don't get hungry.
Hi Ruthy
Yes, i've got them from both Tesco and Morrisons.
Syn values are (for the whole sachet and on either red or green day):-
Chow Mein 5.5
Szechuan 7.5
Sweet & Sour 7
Oyster & Spring Onion 7.5
Chop Suey 3.5
Black Bean 5.5
I like the Chow Mein one best and the Szechuan (dunno if i spelled...
Hey Cat when's your weigh in day? Mine's tonight so here's hoping! Will post later when i'm back to let everyone on this challenge know how is has or hasn't gone
:whoopass: Probably be the first Easter Challenge public flogging coming up seeing the amount i've eaten the last few days (but...
PS wouldn't like to give you the impression that i'm "Mrs Organised" because usually i'm scatty as can be. Just find that with SW i need to be disciplined!
Thats really good advice by Bumpy0, i think the key to it is getting organised and planning. I like to do a rough plan for the week ahead and sit down on a Thursday night when i get home from weigh in and do rough menus for a week, write my shopping list for Friday shopping. The menus can be...
LOL well Seyjay from your avatar photo you ain't looking so bad on it, and your ticker is showing 2lb below target weight. Impressive. Our group leader does keep saying to us every week "you've got to eat it to burn it". Time will tell...
Maybe i'm taking this "eat as much...." thing too literally. I've just packed away syn free chips, small tin baked beans, brocolli & carrots (cos they needed using up) plus an omelette made with three eggs with 42g Mozarella (HEA) and i'm absolutely stuffed! (Green day)
Weigh in day tomorrow...
Ooh lovely snow! Always makes you want to run outside and roll about in it like when you were a kid :D Have friends in Manitoba,Canada and they keep sending me pics of the frozen lake and all the snow they have at the moment. At -40'C it sounds a bit cold to me though! They've just done a winter...
Hiya Cherish, sorry to hear you haven't been well! Welcome back and well done on losing your 1lb - as you say better 1lb off than staying the same or gaining.
Have a good week
Sorry to hear about your back problems, being in pain always makes you feel down doesn't it. Well done you for sticking to the plan!
Some of the things i like to have with meat are mashed swede, peas (HEB), brocolli, carrots, gravy (chicken bovril and thicken it with cornflour 1 syn per tsp)...
Hey Flab-u-less-Flower!
Yes birds as in the feathered sort :) Where are you located? I guess if you are in Canada or the far north of Europe it will be a couple of months yet before the birds are returning?
Thanks Mini
Instructions much appreciated!
No have never exhibited any photographs but when i lived up in Scotland i made cards from my photographs and sold them at a local craft fair once a month and got a lot of satisfaction from that.
Sammy x
Oh Puggso thats very funny, but, erm, no not quite like that.
Russian Doll, yes, always good at the coast and always a surprise what you can see even in the middle of the busiest towns and cities.
When i was up in Scotland i lived near the sea and must say i miss it very much.
Sammy x
Hi
Any other birders out there?
Not too much into twitching or listing but like to get out there in the fresh air and, well, just bird... Although i'm finding Herts a bit of a bird desert - perhaps anyone knows differently?
Been doing some BTO Atlas work over the winter which has been...
Aw, thanks Mini! and thanks for putting my pics in your post, i just couldn't figure out how the heck to do that
And yes i will enjoy using it very much, i've loved photography since i saved up 10 shillings (depending on your age you may or may not remember them LOL!) for my first camera...
Needed a new digital camera and after weeks of researching reviews and prices on the internet for anything from about £70 upwards i decided on the Nikon D40X bought as a kit with the Nikon 18-55mm DX ED lens. I hadn't really intended spending quite so much - £360  with Nikon's current...
I very rarely eat red meat either, but on a red day i'll eat chicken, turkey, Quorn sausages, Quorn mince. for instance tonight i'm having stir fry veg, turkey, beansprouts and stir fry sauce (Blue Dragon Chow mein 5.5 syns). Last night i had the same but no turkey, noodles instead. I also like...
Yeah, my dad called in when i was just about to sit down to dinner (pasta) one night last week, he looked at my plate aghast and said accusingly "i thought you were supposed to be on a diet!". I still lost two pounds.
Yea, but i guess the thinking is that they are low in fat and pretty filling to eat large quantities of, plus on a green day you're limiting your intake of meat.
Anyone else?
I find it easier to think of things to eat on a green day but have a mixture of both. I tend to feel full and bloated on a green day. But its nice to have the choice and i guess it keeps me fromjust living on pasta & jacket potatoes (tempting with being on somewhat of a tight budget!).
Oh dalite, thats the best laugh i've had all day, well done you for standing up to him. And well done on your amazing weight loss so far. As someone posted previously you are one heck of a strong woman, and you CAN do this!
All the very best, Sammy xx
Good question, don't really know the answer but had a look in the food optimising book and both carrot juice and tomato juice have a syn value. Not as high as a lot of the fruit juices, maybe its because they're not as sugary.
Hi westiegirl and really well done on your LL successes, dunno if i could do it, i find food one of the big pleasures in life. Glad to hear that you have plenty of support for SW from your group and colleagues.
Didn't know if i would get into it very easily but going to the group and coming on...
Welcome to the forum and the best of luck with SW - i love it, no need to be hungry just fill up on free food.
Yes, nothing like a bit of competition to keep you motivated. Kitteh (Cat) is having an Easter Challenge for us Slimming Worlders so why not join us (see Challenges forum).
Look...
Well done on your weight loss so far!
Best advice on Scan Bran (aka carpet tiles, compressed chipboard, baked cardboard etc.) don't eat it raw! I like to make it into cakes or soak and add to my porridge for a bit of extra fibre.
I wasn't sure what counts as a portion, i didn't know if mine...
aaw Ruthy, keep it going, you've done so well so far and at least you didn't gain. It's so easy to feel like chucking it all in and i'm sure everyone feels like that sometimes. Got home tonight, running late, didn't feel like being bothered to cook, very tempted to send out for a pizza, thinking...
Yes, as SkinnyMalink says, make sure to have your syns, it's what makes life worth living LOL, i've been having up to 15 a day, i only have around 1 to 1.5 stone left to lose but even with all my syns i'm still losing a couple of pounds a week.
Best of luck
Weekly weigh in and :bliss: another 2 whole pounds banished from the butt!
So glad i found this forum, it really helps to keep me on track. If i get the munchies (you know that feeling where you're not really hungry but want to eat something anyway :sigh: ) i just come on here and lurk around...
Donuts. TOTM coming up and i've been thinking about donuts, lovely stodgy, sugary, jam donuts all day  (Sorry if i sound like Homer Simpson)
GO AWAY DONUTS!! :wavey: YOU'RE DUMPED!!
Hi Kitteh
I'll join you, could do with a public challenge to keep me motivated LOL. I'm gonna set my goal at 10lb - would aim for the full stone but it's my birthday on 19th March so a stone just ain't gonna happen! 10lb would take me down into the 9's - ooh scary, haven't been there for a long...
Fruit. Veg sticks like celery and carrots. Most satisfying of all i've been trying out some of the scan bran cake recipes i found here on Minimins so my mid-morning snack today was quarter of the chocolate scan bran cake with a big dollop of vlf fromage frais - just 2.5 syns
Wow! well done :wow: 8lbs loss in your first week, thats fab, you must be feeling so happy with yourself. Are you following a particular plan? Good luck for the coming week - and keep up that healthy lifestyle!
Good luck with your weight loss Rachelina - yeah, its so hard to lose but oh so easy to put back on again! I find this site is just great for inspiration and ideas. Everyone seems really helpful and friendly so keep logging on.....
Hi Rachelina
I definitely find that i feel much more bloated on a green day and don't seem to have any problems thinking of green day menus. I still eat Quorn on an original day as its a free food on either. Some original days i don't eat any meat and i suppose, for me anyway, its more of a...
Hi
Like Lola above i make my own with tinned tomatoes, and add loads veg - onions, peppers, mushrooms to it i usually add a couple tsp Bouillon powder and to liven up a bit i add just a level tsp Pataks curry paste (Madras with chilli & cumin). Yum!
Also try a tblsp red pesto on your cooked...
Aaw Ruthy your "trumpet trousers" really made me laugh, i'll have to remember that one. Going to try quorn sausages for the first time for my brekkie in the morning - i swear i will be smiling now when i eat them, thinking of the effect they're gonna have!
Thought i'd have a nice positive sort of title to my weigh in thread :)
Little bit of history: Started out at 13.5 stone (i'm 5'4" probably 5'3" really but then i'm too short for my weight :giggle:) lost two and a half stone trying a variety of things but can't seem to shift the last 1.5 to 2...
Wow, just amazing, and a real inspiration to all of us still "on the journey down". Thanks for sharing your photos with us all. And again, its amazing, well done you!
Hey Steph, i think we're on the same red-green cycle as it's red for me today too.
Brekkie: Shreddies (HEB), apple, yogurt (3.5 syns) skimmed milk (HEA)
Snack: 3 mini Babybel light
Lunch: Cooked chicken & salad + dressing for 1 syn
Snack: 2 clementines
Dinner: grilled lambs liver & lean bacon...
Sounds good Steph. Red day for me also:-
Brekkie: Smoked salmon in scrambled egg, clementine, milky coffee (HEA)
Lunch: 3 x mini baby bel light (HEA) chopped up in salad (lettuce, carrot, tomato, cucumber, celery) 2 tbsp Tesco HL Moroccan spiced apricot dressing (1 syn)
Snack: clementine...
