Facial hair

I went to a specialist about my facial hair and he gave me vaniqua cream, which is rubbish. I asked about laser and he said (I live in england) its not free on the NHS. :( sucks!

I saw the doctor last week and he said that it is available on the NHS in England - it depends on the Primary Care Trust though - he has just referred me .. I now have a chest issue too grrrrr

u have 2 give the cream a full 3 months 2 c if it works it only works 4 50% of ppl,Laser does work well but because the hair is driven by hormones in PCOS u need 2 have maintence.can u go back and c another GP,alot of them don t even know that ita available on the NHS,also shaving really doesn t make it any worse when it grows back I know alot of ppl feel that it does but its only because it grows back abit blunt and can feel worse.Uwould be surprised how common facial hair growth on woman is,its hust not talked about alot,i think mags should be alot more aware and pring articles about it.Oh and laser works best on dark hair, hope this helps abit

i know u deffo get 10 sessions off laser treatment on the Nhs in northern ireland not sure about the rest of the country. In my expierence IPL does really do alot, we use a laser called an alexsandrite, but try the IPL if uve already paid 4 it,its worth a try.

thanx for this benji, i can remember going to my gp around 5 years ago in tears about my facial hair, and my (male) gp said the only thing that can be done would be for me to go on the pill (even tho he knew we were ttc:mad:). i then met someone a few months ago who said about vaniqua cream so i eventually made an appointment with a lady gp and got it prescribed, although to be honest, i keep forgetting to use it as much as i am suppose to..........im thinking now after reading this that i should make another appointment regarding laser treatment.....

I asked about laser on the nhs and was also told it wasn't available.

Can I just ask if anyone has had any luck with hair removal cream and if so what brand? I have tried it but it doesn't seem to work on my facial hair, yet it works on the hair on my legs! Why on earth is this?

I've fallen out with the face creams, last time I used one I came up in a red raised 'tash' and had to get a coach like that! Because it was sore I didn't put makeup on it either so looked a bit ridiculous. But on the plus side I got the number of the man who sat next to me on the coach, which never happens to me :{D Ive met up with him since minus the red tash, but it makes me wonder if people really notice these things anyway. I've since been 'magic wanding' x

i know in northern ireland the NHS funds 10 sessions, then after that u need maintence in the private sector.i work in a NHS laser clinic and it does help alot but with PCOS its the hormones that encourage the hair 2 grow.IPl does nt do alot in my opinoin,

Thanks for this going to ask gp about it I was diagnosed with pcos 21yrs ago and facial hair is still a nightmare even tho I got a total hysterectomy 15 yrs ago

Yeah it's like a little batter powered shaver, the only problem is that the more stubborn hairs come back a bit prickly, but it's easy and gets rid of the hair quickly! You can get them in Boots xx

Thanks for the link about that threading epilator, I used to spend £26 a month on threading for my face... but stopped doing it for financial reasons. I have bought this now hope it works!

I too have bought a course of 6 sessions of IPL at groupon the other day, they said it was worth £2100 I don't think so... but the offer was for 2 small areas and 2 medium areas, so I'm going to have the upper lip, chin, underarm and bikini line done. I don't think 6 sessions will be quite enough to get rid of the problem, as I too have PCOS but I hope it'll have decent effects for my wedding in May. I'll book the first session in the next few days.

When you do IPL you can't pluck your hair? I'm asking because I work as a seller at a bank and always feel self conscious about the hairs on my face, you know in customer service you must look professional and I so feel not professional with a beard and moustache! I would hate the thought of my boss telling me to shave :(

Do you have a link to the item at all? I can't seem to find anything called a magic wand apart from that epicare hand epilator thing (got one of those, don't get on with it).

i have pcos and the hair is basically confidence killer and i have was diagnosed from when i was 20 years old. i have tried everything and nothing has helped the only thing that can help me is laser treatment and my doctors surgery won't help so i have suffer in silence. so i know how things are and i have tried that cream to put on your face but make sure you don't stop using it or it stops working.

LOL, I have both a mustache and a beard, and even though it is truly embarrassing some time my boyfriend is real supportive.

He just gives me his razor and watch me shave. LOL :D
