Tipperary wobbles into 2024

Its only 8am and I feel like when I got up at 7am I have had a big lie in. I've had poached eggs on toast and green tea. Washing machine on and about to start cleaning kitchen then I need to leave at about 9 am, it feels like the middle of the day already to me.

You seem to be living in a whizz at the minute Tippy 🙃 Your job sounds very hectic at times with mad starting times but I'd love to give something like that a whirl. Good on you for trying to keep on eating healthy and keeping up with your swimming & walks..personally i think I'd be collapsed on the settee on my days off. I sympathise the tortured feet as I had a waitressing job many moons ago and at times felt my feet were on fire & walking home was agony. Earth Spirit shoes & shuology (not sure of spelling) are very comfy for long hours of walking & standing, though not sure you'd get the style you need for work.
Enjoy your day...oh, by the way how is your daughter and do you have a new baby due date? X

Hey Tipp, the job sounds crazy! I know the feeling of 7am feeling like a lie in shift work really messes with you doesn't it. Hope you get a chance to get some rest soon :)

Thanks all. Baby not due until August but lots to be done before then. I'm not so good now, just finished exam and I'm in McDonald's just after eating a big Mac n chips n.juice. I thought I'd get home but was starving on the way.wasn't passing any sandwich places and couldn't afford restaurant so stopped here. I see the shopping centre seems to have an Iceland so going to pop in as they are only new here. Any suggestions of what I should be looking for?

Hope the exam went well - sometimes the only thing that will fill the gap is a big mac - I love them!

I do like the Iceland's summer ranges - the kebab/skewers etc range. It's great for things to add to a salad etc to pep them up and also things w can have at BBQ's. The only problem with those is that I find them really quite expensive for what they are (meat on a stick). Do check the cals though as I've had a quick look and there's a smokey one that is like 500 cals for 2 :| Ones like this: 'Iceland 14 Sticky Chicken Skewers with Sesame Seeds 337g' are 37 cals each and we always have them with a curry as a side dish thats low cal.

The ice creams/lollies are reasonably caloried (if you avoid the choc ones etc) and great for the upcoming warmer weather. Their own brand vienetta on a stick is also about 67cals and it's approx the length of your thumb.

Personally I'm not a fan of the Slimming World meals (as a throw back from when did SW) as I found them all too spicy or pepper even though they said they were 'mild' but you might like spicy food :)

oooh good luck on this exam!

Iceland - I buy SW meat stuff so you won't want those :). Agree with Sunny re the SW meals - and you could make a much better curry yourself, but they are convenient for those mad shifts xx

Thanks, I got one SW curry and also a tub of a ginger sauce to try. I got some of the Indian range dishes, dhals and veg curries that I can microwave at work if I am in a hurry and don't have anything prepared.
Still trying to think of healthy and warm breakfast type dishes. I might make some quiches with spinach and herbs and leave out the cheese. Hmm, will get cooking today.

Its really interesting and while the hours aren't great, the pay is crap and the travel is draining while I am at work I enjoy it. I had to sit in on a class yesterday with more new intakes and we where talking about self esteem and self doubt. I admitted that in the application process and first few days that I was worried I was too old to start something this new and different. But then I said I now feel good about it and very proud of the fact that I did start and so far have achieved something so new at 50. The others would have mother's younger than me and I could see them trying to imagine their mother's in my place.
I've still 3 other work opportunities that may come up.with something. I am very low on the panel for health board for a full time position, I am waiting on an interview for another health board position and I am on the panel for temp position with public service. As said before I will refuse a short temp contract but wull take a longer one if offered. Though many of these have been already filled. Its hard to know what to do and haven't made any plans for holidays yet, can't even plan a weekend away as I don't get weekends off. I really feel like the last 12 months have been like lots of work experience placements but its really great to get the opportunity to try such different things.
Anyway, off today and was happy that I could get my daily dose if Matt Brown, upset now to find the series has finished....not fair.
Have cooked and am eating porridge then will clean the kitchen. Am going to make a double batch of my pitta breads, one half to make Pitta's and the second I will use as the base for some quiches. I have four hard boiled eggs in the fridge to use up so am going to whizz them up with fresh eggs, spinach and chives for some healthyish quiches.

The No Bull burgers are the best shop bought ones I've had..nothing like burger texture, more like hot dog texture but at least they're not cardboard. They're vegan too. Sat fat: 1.4, Sugars: 5.1 Calories: 190

I need to spend some time in your kitchen as your food always sounds delicious..I would willingly make myself bad to eat pitta bread and quiche😋

I might get some of them to try, my basket was full by the time I found them. I must read the label, I wonder if they are quorn or soya based. I will only eat organic soya as the regular stuff is probably GM.
Tired now but kitchen is full of food. I made 8 pitta breads but overcooked them a bit, I usually do them on the griddle pan but baked these in the oven as it was on anyway and now they are a bit crispy but still perfect with a dip. I have 6 pieces of quiche made and 10 oat cereal bars, all now in the freezer. Freezer sorted and I have 26 meals prepared, breakfast/brunch/lunch.
I have 2 French female volunteers coming to stay this month. My hours are all over the place so daughter 1 is going to look after meals for them. So I checked to see what is in the freezer now anyway, we have 8 loaves brown soda bread, 6 apple tarts, 12 mini quiches...so a start. We also have about 6 bags frozen prawns and I find with French volunteers and pack of pasta, a bag of prawns and a jar of pasta sauce makes them a great meal. I have about 5 bags now of Deep Roots veg burgers...so enough to keep me going.
I got very hungry while cooking so had a wrap with some hard boiled egg, tomato, mayo and lots of spinach leaves. Im hoping to make some soup and have that with pitta and cauliflower dip soon and have veg lasagne out of freezer for dinner. Ive also taken out a duck to roast for the rest and have potatoes peeled and green beans in a pot. And my rummage around the freezer produced some stuffing balls I made at Christmas. Everyone all sorted.
Id like to go for a swim today so will see about that later, if not a decent walk. Its drizzling out but noce a fresh so good for walking if I have a hood.
Skin breaking out in spots again, fingers crossed it is just spots....off to put emergency antibiotic cream on it just in case, I don't think I could cope long term if cellulitis is going to be a constant thing.

Me again, have laptop open and am looking for a holiday.
Ive already mentioned Croatia on Clareel thread. Daughter 2 will be 30 in January and I never got the holiday I wanted when I was 50 this year so she has decided we need the holiday of a lifetime. Need to decide now so we can save and pay it off (and book time off). We want sun so in January that limits our choices. She doesn't want Spain or Canaries or Mexico. We want sun, pool and maybe beach, but definitely something different with options for trips and adventures. We don't want to rent a car....so any suggestions....remember we are looking for sun in January.
Thanks

Is Australia too far? :)

Love all the cooking - such a nice way to spend time off! But let's hope the spots are just temporary!

How do you feel about cruises Tipp? Mr_d and I did a Caribbean one as part of our honeymoon, we went with the royal Caribbean but we really enjoyed it... we went in January and it was in the 20's... pool and loads of fun stuff to do on the ship... plus loads of fun excursions on the island stops...

Iceland are great for the prepared veg... especially butternut squash that is a nightmare to prepare...

Thanks, we have thought of Australia and are still thinking...cost might be too much. Was thinking of a cruise too but I think I would feel too constrained by it and also would rather do that with husband than daughter. Have juts been looking up Orlando and Vegas. I wasn't keen on going to the states but I reckon Vegas is just a planet all to itself. Have found flights and a two bedroom self catering apartment for 7 nights for €1000 each which is quite good and do-able. Its a low rise place off the strip with no casino attached so wont be crazy noisy. Still thinking.
Two large painful spots now on face, one feels big but ok however second one has that horrible tingly feeling that has me worried, covered in antibiotic/cortisone cream on it now and hoping that will work.
Made leek and potato soup and had that with pitta bread and cauliflower puree for lunch.

Just had Iceland's Mumbai kitchen Gobi Dhansak, a cauliflower and lentil curry with only 213 calories in it. It was lovely and made a perfect meal with a pitta bread and some salad, will definitely get some more of them. Went for a 3.5km walk with fog and baby. Watching TV now and about to have some tea and 2 digestives.
Up for 5:30am and working 7:30am to 3pm. Have quiche, pitta, salad, oat bar and apple for work meals as not sure if it will be breakfast or lunch. Overnight oats soaking now but it may well become a slice of toast.

Thanks Mary, nice idea but it will be January and we really want some sunshine and a bit if heat in our bones.Daughter has been diagnosed with very severe Vitamin D deficient and a sun holiday has been "prescribed" by her GP.
Mauritius for 3 weeks would be ideal but completely out of budget.

Oh the Caribbean would be lovely, but it does get expensive.

What about Sicily? Might have to gamble on the weather, but it's usually nice in Jan. Otherwise you're looking at Africa - maybe a cheap Nile cruise? There are loads of them about.

Fingers crossed the spots clear up quickly!
